Jane Hudson pretty well hit the mark Paula.  You know I have read almost every story of yours.  I think you have a growing talent; But this one is less than those of your latest efforts. Your lack of a qualified proofreader has hurt you in many of your tales that would otherwise sparkle.Though I suspect you were distracted when you penned this, I hope you continue to write and to grow.  You have a good basic talent.

Dear Paul,

You are indeed a prolific tg writer and I have enjoyed at least several of your stories, although I've not examined any great quantity of your output vis-a-vis quality.

The Babysitter surely is not among your best: a mere 7k in length, yet at least a dozen grmmar and/or spelling errors. That's not an utter disaster, but it isn't very excusable. The inconsistent handling of gender pronouns may have been perpetrated with the intention of being cute, but it doesn't work here. It's not even very annoying, just messy.

The scene in the store with the conversation about "registering" one's purse was close to incomprehensible and certainly did not contribute to the story. And then why you had our tg girl sprinting across the street in her ultra high heels and likened it to a trackster's pace, I'll never understand. It didn't add a thing to the story.

Good short, short stories use every line to contribute somehow to the message. This one fails that standard in several places.

As for your own future, I think you must needs beware the wrath of witches. You've kind of pulled a prank on them by having your protagonist secretly get the best of the process, and I'm not too sure how much you can rely upon their collective sense of humor.

The importance of reader feedback cannot be overstated.   Authors rely on it to improve their future works, and it gives them the incentive to write more stories if they know that their hard work has been appreciated.  I am not saying that comments must all be lauditory.  Authors often appreciate honest, constructive criticism over simple remarks like 'Great story', although simple praise is appreciated also.  There is no limit on how much you can enter in the 'comments' box.   Sentences will automatically word wrap at the end of the line so please do not use your carriage return/enter key except at the end of your paragraphs.

It is not necessary to use your real name here, and, email addresses are optional.  Posting your email address will allow the author to thank you for taking the time to post your comments, and/or discuss critiques and address possible concerns.

Be forewarned that abusive remarks and language will be removed, and the posters may be banned from this AND other areas of StorySite.
