Absolutely perfect.  If you're not a professional author already you should show this story to a publisher immediately.  It is so real and I loved all fifteen sections of it.  You are as delightful writing as Catherine is acting.  You deserve an Oscar too.

Hey Carmenica,

I just finished reading your wonderful story about 'Catherine Lawrence' and wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it.. it's such a good story!

I really enjoyed your style of writing, very amusing, and the whole piece was so well-paced and never dull, full of interest and very moving too.. I often found myself holding back the tears, or not!  I have to say I think this story would make an excellent movie-script if you'd consider doing a re-write to turn it into dialogue.. it's about time there was a good mainstream TG film and this would be very suitable in my opinion.

I've been re-reading all of Crystal's stories and am so sad she seems to have disappeared recently, but it meant I had to search through the site to look for other longer and deeper tales.. this is how I stumbled across your's and I'm so thrilled to have found this lovely fable.  I hope you're still writing and please let me and your other fans know if you have work posted elsewhere as well.. I'd love to read more if you have other works available!

Many thanks then and I'll certainly be re-reading the wonderful 'Catherine Lawrence' again as soon as there's another opportunity.

Love and Best Regards
Px :))

Wow!!! I almost got fired because of Catherine Lawrence. I couldn't even focus on what I was working on. Your characters are so alive that I, myself, couldn't help but fall for the charms of Cate. Even her transition has enlightened me on issues regarding identity and the fact that love transgresses the bounds of gender.

This is a tale of self discovery, of friends who support each other no matter what their backgrounds are, and that life is a grand theatre which one's role is determined by one's willingness to take on that role and live it to the fullest...

I will have to catch up on some of Ms. Carmenica's work...

Absolutley terrible story. How dare you write such a "short" story!!! I read the entire story in one setting and went through about 1/2 a box of kleenex. I have read an absolute plethora of stories over the years and yours is easily as intersting and entertaining as ANY story I've ever read. Character development, empathy, emotional roller coaster and on and on... As I said at the beginning, terrible in that it had to end so soon!
Thanks girl, keep writing!!!
love,
Catherine

Hi Carmenica.
Brilliant, wonderful, amazing, terrific, sweet, perfect! She's right in don't telling him about her past as a man.
You have an extraordinary talent. You're one of the best writers I ever read.
Congratulations, and never stop writing, please!
Kisses.
Silvia.

One of the strongest characters and plots I have read on this site. Your story hooked me from the first line until the end.

You can not know how glad I am to finally find an author here that can tell a gripping story without all the same (cliques and seems to be standard of writing here) on this site.

You have a talent for bringing your characters to life and giving them the perfect  personality. Can not wait ti read more of your work.

Comment by Vivien on 03/07/10
I was browsing through all the stories and found this one again.  I just had to reread it remembering having read it long ago. I think that this is one of those stories that can be read again and again without growing tired of it! Even though I have read it a couple of times before I find myself absolutely glued to it while searching for the tissues so that I can continue reading. It's that well written and that captivating!

Again, never stop writing ok?

Super, super, super writing!  I can't express how much I loved this series of stories.  I don't think I've cried and laughed and appreciated ANY story on this site as much as I have these.  I wish the author much success in the future.

Dear Carmenica,

there has not been much new recently so i decided to re read a few good ones, including your Catherine Lawrence.  It is still as sweet and as perfectly constructed as it was the first time and required several hankies.  It really is a very satisfying tale, with all our wish-fulfillment dreams made real for a while.  Thank you so much.

Keep up the great work.  To bad your writings can't be sold on the open market, what a movie this would make. But would brobably have a XX rating (Drat)

Well where does a person start...?

All I can say is... The story is Brilliant...
Excellent even...

As a Big fan of TG fiction I can say in all honesty
this is one of, if not the best story I've read in a long while.

Congratulations Carmenica,
It's not often a person can read something that makes a person
want to meet a character like Catherine Lawarance.

Keep up the good work

Comment by Jezzi Stewart on 03/22/04
I love a happy ending.  What a great 15 chapter ride!

HOWEVER. I guess I will be the spoilsport.  I do think it was a mistake, and a big one, not to tell Stephen the truth.  There is always a chance the truth will come out, no matter how careful the coverup.  She is in a bad accident, unconscious in the hopital and blood work is done and there is a dna test by mistake, or x-rays reveal male bone structure, or there is damage to the groin area and a gynacologist examines her.  What about fingerprints?  Could be any number of things, and the more popular she gets, the more the tabloids will be searching for things about her.

Oh well, other than that, I loved it.

Comment by Carmenica Diaz on 03/21/04
Thanks so much for all the compliments, although I'm not really sure I deserve them.
However, I will accept them in the spirit they were given and run blushing into the night! ;)
Thank you for reading and for taking the time to write these comments.
I'm in rather a bind - how do I top this I wonder?

Comment by Samantha on 03/21/04
Dear Carmenica,

Thank you for writing such a nice story. From reading other readers comments it would appear that this is surely a Winner. It was one of those stories that made one wish that the next episode was right there and one didn't have to wait for the next posting to appear. I hope that we may soon see another story from you soon. Once again thank you so much for a lovely story.
Love, Samantha.

Comment by Pervette on 03/21/04
I'm not generally very good at long stories. But yours grabbed me
right from the start, and it was a continuing delight. Of course,
the notion that a biological male should not only pass, but should
do so so well that he becomes a world-class actress is a bit hard
to swallow...but swallow it we did, and you can see from all the
accolades how well it went over. Excellent work, with the perfet
feeling of closure at the end. (And, I might add, congratulations
on knowing when to stop.)
.

Comment by Eve on 03/21/04
I deliberatly wailed until the end to comment, as I knew from your "preface" that it would just be just 15 episodes and that you would not waste much time in getting them posted.  And you did what you said you would.  I have read the other comments, and everyone loved the story. (Even the guy who kept correcting your typos and technical errors loved it as a story.)  And now that it is finished - my comment: It was great, I loved it too, I love Cate and I can't wait for more from you.  Don't keep me (and all your other fans) waiting too long.  Please.  One question - Cate and her friends all seem very British, but your name does not suggest yourself being British.  Could it be that your "pen name" is deliberately trying to hide your real background?  Horrors! But I loved it and love you for wtiting it. Please give us many more.

    Carmencia,

Youy have no reight what so ever to compress this wonderful tale into a mere fifteen parts.  This story should have been told in no less than eleventy=elven parts.  Please do no let Cathrine fade inro black, except to reopen in a new scene.

carmenica diaz,

This was a rapid-fire story with a frenetic pace that never lost its joy. Each chapter had a punch. It is a great use of the "things would be better if only I were a girl" fantasy. You really, really buried the boy left behind with Lucy's "Chris is dead" line. Your message -- it is okay to live your dreams. I always looked forward to the next chapter and was never disappointed. I hope that you had as much fun writing it as I did in reading it.

A decent story with a memorable hero/heroine. A very accomplished author.

Thank you again.

Ms Diaz, a wondrous tale and an even more wondrous ending! Cate had to be as you portrayed her, as a naturaly gifted and very beautiful actress to have won awards her first year. She was also a wonderfuly human person with qualities few posses.

I am looking for a comment by Barbara Lynn Terry. I know this story she would love! As so many others have based on the number of glowing comments you have received.

Great job and I am looking forward to reading more from you.

Oh my dear so sweet an end. It made me cry it was so sweet. Love the whole story such a lovely loving story well done.

Comment by Rich on 03/21/04
Well there you have all 15 chapters. Was I expecting a happy ending?  Of course, weren't you?  You did a very good job dear. You deserve all the cudoes listed here.  Take a while and wallow in the limelight for a bit.  Remember, now that you have such a great story under your belt your fans are going to be eager for more.  Here's hoping that your next project is just as successful as this one has been, somehow I think it will even surpass it.  Congratulations, you did good!  Sincerely: Rich.

Comment by chrisl on 03/20/04
Hi Carmenica,
Lovely emotions at the end, tears of loss followed by tears of romantic love.
The flow of the story is interesting, you have told quite a story in 15 relatively small parts. I think you have sacrificed necessary depth for pace. When all is done it is a lovely tale for the emotions of the characters and not for the story itself.
To set this pace and make the characters matter and also tell a complex tale with believable plot ? Well then you will be up there with the mistresses of this genre.
I was dying to read part 15 and am very very thankful for your story,
Hugs chris.

Comment by Francine on 03/20/04
Hi Carmenica :)
It is wonderful to the end. Is there a sequel?
Please continue writing.
Hugs, Fran

Comment by Diane on 03/16/04
This continues to be a lovely story.  Yes, Cate needs SRS and wants it, even if she won't admit it yet.  This wonderful story needs to be prolonged.  Cate should wait several episodes before she has the inversion.  This story is like making love.  Don't rush, enjoy the feeling and the journey.  Getting there is half the enjoyment.

Comment by Jezzi Stewart on 03/16/04
After part 12:
And SHE doesn't know whether SHE wants SRS or not?  Good Lord!  You have written a WOMAN, all capitals.  Write her off her butt and into the operating room to get inverted ASAP, and then on into Stephen's arms and bed!  Ohmygawd is the estrogyn flowing!  Great, great, great story.

Comment by Rose on 03/14/04

Hi Carmenica,
just finished part 9, I have been really enjoying the sweet characterisation of your heroine. I didn't really notice that she liked guys in the early chapters, hmm I spose she must have been at least bi. A fun story, many thanks and I look forward to the last six chapters.

carmenica,

After Chapter 8 - Just dropping you a note to say that the way you have maintained a high energy level with the story up to this point is very impressive. Each chapter has a "pop". There are no extra words. It moves. Everything is fresh and a surprise. This is a very professional piece. Thank you again for sharing. I hope that you, too, are basking in the opening night glory.

Comment by Angel O'Hare on 03/10/04

You have a wonderful feel good kind of story going here.  And from what I have read so far, a real hit.  I first heard of this when some friends were raving about it last night in Crystal's Chat Room.  Since I trust my friends' opinions of what is good fiction, I decided to 'give it a go,' I can assure you I was not disappointed.

I eagerly look forward to reading the last eight chapters now, hoping that the conclusion is just as terrific as the first half.

Keep up the good work, and thank you for the entertainment.

Comment by riottgrrl on 03/03/04
Once again, I have to agree with Jimmy. You can use a spray adhesive like Hollister 7730 on the back of the form and it will hold for a couple of days, but it does get uncomfortable, especially in summer. The best adhesive remover has an odor that is hard to hide.

It's much more comfortable to simply wear a pocket bra. If one is physically active, one can use a form with spaces for a reusable double-sided tape. Perspiration can then run out from under the form and the form won't bounce quite so much.

Forms are a whole science, and a necessity until one has finished growing. Then there are other choices to make.

Please don't hesitate to ask for information before you write another transition story. I'd be very happy to comment.

This is a great story! The only problem that i have with a wonderful story like this is waiting for the next installment, and then it is finished and i want more so the waiting starts again until you find another excellent story.

I must admit I have only a passing interest in TG stories but I do love the theatre and you have enthralled me so far.

You obviously either have a great love for the theatre too or are involved in theatrical work in some way as you describe the workings very well.

Please continue and I just can't wait until opening night!

Comment by Me on 03/03/04
Fucking told you it was a great story.

She didn't believe me, folks.

But it rocks, don't it??

Comment by Sylvia on 03/03/04
I love this story and I hope it keeps going.

Carmenica, don't pay any mind to the criticisms, some people really want all the technical details while others (I believe most) just want the story.

And this is  a lovely story! The characters are charming and Cate is becoming my best friend. She's going to be a star, isn't she? I hope so!
Thank you, dear.

Comment by Jimmy on 03/02/04
Still going strong!

I am not so sure about the glue on breasts.  You stated, "Cate, have you decided to use the breast forms, the ones that are glued on? The glue cannot be removed for a month so it's a good trial."  Breast forms are held on with surgical glue and there is a special adhesive removal for taking the breast off.  First, it is important to clean the skin and second, skin cells shed naturally so the adhesive will come lose on its own over time.  This is one of the little details that readers will catch.  It was small and didn't really distract that much from the story, but part of the story is Chis' transition and I think it is important to get the transition to accurately mirror what the real life transition is like.  For one thing, it will certainly play a big part in Cate's life.  Furthermore, even the once a week romance novelist will do research on location settings to get the details correct.  It just helps to make the story that much more realistic.

With that said, I can’t wait for the next installment.  The line is already forming at the “Strand.”

Comment by chrisl on 03/02/04
Hi Carmenica,
you are having fun trotting out the old favourites aren't you girl LOL.

Comment by Diane on 03/02/04
This is a delightful story.  It is similar to another titled "No Half Measures" that I thoroughly enjoyed.  This tale is starting and has the opportunity to have many twists and turns.  Those of us who live vicariously through these stories are most appreciative and very dependent on good stories.  Please continue and please don't leave us hanging like many writers do.  Beginning a story and publishing it is like a promise.  It has to be finished.  We look forward to your next episode.

Comment by Wendy on 03/02/04
I agree with the other reviewers, this has gotten off to such a great start I’m a little anxious about how it will continue. If it continues at the same pace, same character development and plot twists, Carmenica will rightfully gain a reputation as one of the great TG writers!
Each part so far has been as good as the previous, so good I’m dreading finishing this story which has become a part of my life in such a short time.
Thanks for a great story!

What a wonderful story, it has me crying already, and that usually means that I am quite happy. True, as others have mentioned, it has some inaccuracies, breast development is slow, I wore posts only for several months after my piercing, etc. But this is fiction, and the author is allowed some license. Your story is more realistic than many others I have read on this site. So keep up the good work girl, and I'll be anxiously awaiting to read the rest of Cate's adventures.
Hugs,
Toni

Hola Carmenica,

So far this story is fantastic. It is reminiscent of Crystals story I can't go home like this but I think cate is much more assured than Crystals character. I am really looking forward to seeing more and seeing her develop and seeing the plot develope. Pardon me for hoping you write faster lol...ok Im greedy, I'm kinda like a baby. I want what I want when I want it. lol thanks again

I see in several of the comments some points about research.  The details do matter.  The small details do mater and that is where research is important.  From part one and part three, there are implications that perhaps Christopher has some hormone dysfunction.  But it isn't really explored as it should have been.  Overall, I think your story is quite good, and you have me hooked so far.

This is a thoroughly endearing story, but I do belive you could go into greater detail and still keep your storyline interesting. I'm almost afraid you will run through your plot too soon. You could elaborate things more.

There are two or three minor things you got wrong. First, my doctor had bloods drawn and discussed my lab results with me in detail before she asked me to come in for another consult to discuss hormones (no extra charge, she just wanted me to sleep on it). She made an effort to get to know both my body and me, as a person, before she wrote a prescription. After all, this is a lifetime decision. Second, it takes more like one hundred and eight weeks to reach final breast development, and if one starts as an adult one may never make it to Tanner Stage 5. In other words, breast development through HRT takes about two years, not two months. Augmentation mammoplasty is not advisable until breast development is complete. (One should measure oneself horizontally and keep notes: band size, cup size, waist size, etc. ad nauseam. One may be surprised by the extent of the changes.)

Finally, I know one can get fake hoops nowadays, but when I did my ears I only could get posts until the piercings healed.

You have started a really pleasant story. I'm dying to learn how Cate's sexuality is going to sort itself out. Cate will not like what will happen to her ability to shag Belinda in just months if she keeps the hormones up. BTW, what is she on? It's too late for me, (forgive my use of guy terminology) but inquiring minds want to know: if it gives 'em a rack in eight weeks, I know about a gazillion girls who'd like a case of it! Each!

I enjoyed part 2 even more than part 1. I believe that this story does rate with 'I Can't Go Home Like This!' and 'No Half Measures'.

The only criticism I can come up with is that I don't believe that an honest doctor would treat a patient with hormones before getting some minimal bloodwork.

Please keep the updates coming, I can't wait!

After reading part two.

I rate this story (so far) as on par with Crystal's own "I Can't Go Home Like This!"

I know it is far to early to make a comment like that, but as I am always hoping Crystal will finish that story of hers I am also hoping this story will finish with a bang. Giggle, giggle.

Ok, so with a little more proofing and the posting of the remaining 13 parts I hope to see them soon! Giggle,

Well Carmenica Diaz, do you ever offer "SNEAK PEAKS" to your avid critics?

After reading part one.

An excellent start to a very good story. You can write and you do it well. One thing to work on is proofing! I have selected just a couple of errors that hit me as I read this story giving me pause as I was reading. You're to good a writer to let the little things pass you by. As you have intimated you have already written the entire story so, go back and proof it one more time before posting it. JMHO.

"There was no doubt in my *'mine'* that I was a capable actor, in fact, in my private moments, I daydreamed I had the potential to be a great actor.

"'Jude Law is pretty,' I said defensively but she just shook *'his'* head.

"*'They.* actors she had worked with for so long had promised to follow her but, of course they didn't.

Hi Carmenica,
I am enjoying your story. As others have mentioned the plot is a standard :)
Your writing style flows well and it is easy to accept and care about your characters.
You brought me to a screeching halt in part 2 with the doctors in depth examination and screening techniques ROFL. Anyway, after the giggles totally subsided I enjoyed the rest of the episode.
Hugs,
chris.

Part 2 is great although short? Maybe I'm eager to get onto it. I think the standard is consistent and the characterisation is fantastic!
I agree with another reviewer - this could be a blockbuster!
Congratulations.

Carmenica Diaz,

Nice job. You quickly set-up the story and the characters. Your "critical reviews" on this feedback page indicate that you have created interest, and may have a blockbuster hit on your hands.

All the best!

Most stories have been done before, and yes, this is another version but it is a stylish beginning. To be fair to the author, she does mention Tootsie in the story so there is no attempted subterfuge.
I found the beginning to be rather charming and I willop back from time to time to catch up on the latest Catherine Lawrence.
Congratulations on a good start.

Yes, the story has been done before.  And the concept isn't entirely true.  There are plenty of short pretty men in Hollywood with very successful careers.  But that aside, this is a well written story that draws the reader inside.  I did see a couple of typos, but they were very minor, his instead of her and a repeat of his (his his.)  I am surprised that your word processor didn't catch the repeat.  You may want to see if your word processor is checking for those types of errors.

I definitely want to see part two of this story.  I hope you take the concept in new and wonderful directions and not just a rehash of what has come before.

This story is off to a very promising start. The basic theme has been done before of course (not least in "Tootsie"), but this rendering is well-written, and certainly drew me in nicely. I look forward eagerly to future episodes.

A great start! I'm also pleased that you say you've written the entire story before beginning to post - that's great news! I've found that some stories that are posted a sthe author writes each part, sometimes tend to fizzle out. I have high hopes for this one.

More, I'm looking forward to more! Great characters, characters that I recognise which is either good or scarey!
I'm looking forward to the rest.

Okay, the scene is set, I'm settling in for the story. Well written, by the way and I'm a little hooked.
