Responding to Donna's post: The reason girls love Crossdress Day at that school and boys are reluctant to participate is that so many girls and women have become used to masculinizing themselves with pants, which are now seen as normal and acceptable, whereas boys are generally fearful of the stigma associated with publicly appearing as girls and dealing with the feminine clothing issues (soft, delicate underthings; windswept dresses and skirts; bare legs; heels; longer hair; jewelry; makeup, etc.).  Can't say as I blame 'em, even with femme clothing being infinitely more precious.

Lin's mother should be arrested and hanged for what she did to Lin.
Very bad story.

Loved this story and it is so open for a sequel.  I felt so sorry for Lin how some in the school were mean.  Also his friend Kevin would give away his own 'Crossdress Day' clothes.

This might push back his a hidden desire to dress as a girl.  Perhaps it would just take time and closer relationship with his mother, her seeing a daughter in her son.  With Dad away more often she and Lin might do a bit more shopping and social events, mother and daughter.

Or the other boy in the story whom Lin does not help but later become friends by defending him.

Or perhaps one of the girls who liked seeing that side of Lin.  She might dislike the stereo typical macho male and prefer a boy who was not afraid to show his feminine side.  But he might need some encouragement.

I look forward to reading your other stories and new characters.

I enjoyed this story a lot. My mother or one of my aunts might have been like that but nothing happened to give them the opportunity. Sigh. I like the conflicting emotions, they feel like home.

Great story!!!!  Our local high school has a crossdress day each spring.  I don't know much about it since it has been nearly 15 years since our son graduated and crossdress day began after he left.  I have heard that the girls love it but few of the boys participate.  Thanks again for a great story.

"Mother Must I" was the first story i've read on this website.  It was very interesting.  I hope to read some more of his work and stories written by others.  I think this was a very good story.
thanks for writing, I'm sure I will enjoy more of your stories,

Very well done.  You handle the conflicting emotions that Lin faces much better than a lot of authors. The whole flavor of the experience. The anxiety. The internal struggle is the focus of the story, not what happens in school that day. And yes, there is plenty of room for a sequel.
If you do a sequel, it would be good to get some background on how the school came up with Crossdress Day. It's the sort of thing one would think would be unheard of in a public school setting, so some explanation would make the story much more credible.  The born again Christian element of the community would be livid over it. So how did it come about? Is it a sensitivity exercise? Is there a strong GLTB club at the school as there are in many schools these days? And if so, will Lin be drawn into it as he wrestles with his feelings?

What happened in school the day after CD day?  I would think there would have been a fight or fights.  Did Gail and Lin become closer?  I found this VERY believable.  Good job; let's have a sequel !!  (I would have prefered Disney princesses to goth as a Halloween theme :-)

This story is a favorite of mine.  I find the scenerio (except for the parents believing that a cross-dress day is mandatory) totally beliveable.  I think every parent who has a child has experienced the "it's due tomorrow!" phenomemon.

I love the insights to Lin's thoughts:  His struggles with enjoying the clothes when he feels he shouldn't, his desire to please his mom after he found out she could not have any more children after him, his exasperation with Kevin in the store, his anaylsis of what his mother means when she makes her comments.  It all rang totally true.  His dissection of the sales clerk Cynthia is masterful.

The portrayal of Mrs. Troy was wonderful.  The 'Mom on a Mission' while shopping was a hoot.  Lin was lucky she stopped at only 2 outfits!  The telepathic exchanges between Mrs. Troy and Mrs. Harris were also classic.

I liked the revisions you made of the original version - they helped - but please have someone do a little more editing.  There are too many mistakes in this wonderful story.  It detracts from the impact.

The addendum leads me to hope that you will be doing a follow up story.  Can I vote yes?

Thanks for sharing.

Nice story. It would be nice to find out if Mrs Troy gets a part time daughter and the advernters they have.

This is a beautiful story.  I hope that you continue it as a serial.
