An excellent story I must say.A psychoanalytical way of dealing with issue of sex conundrum is positively thought provoking. I was very impressed that the issue was not given a vulgar and pornographic tilt.Kudos for that. However, I did not like the reference to fake penis present and Blow reference to penis shaped candles on cake in bridal shower description in part 14.Could it be appropriate to eliminate those references? That is the only place where vulgariry pips in!

I first would like to say that I thought overall this was a very touching story. �If there is such a sweet boy/girl out there that has these qualities of giving of themselves to others, I think this would be great. �The main objection that I have is this: �Since I am an ordained minister of the gospel reading these stories to further understand the transgendered persons that may come to me for couseling, I find that your comments about God being a He is definently erroneous. �If one understands the original text of Holy Scripture and its grammatical structure and the fact that the scriptures are written by men divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit, it is a fact that God Himself is the author of the Bible. �He is the one who describes Himself as He and not some man in the Bible. �Now for the content of the story. �I would like to say that I was moved many times with compassion and filled will many tears as I sympathized with Angel/Rachel. �I cannot condone that which God condemns, however, I have learned by reading these stories that many people are members of the transgendered society for various reasons. �Some would be choice, others accidents which necessitates surgery and transformation which I believe God would understand, others are confused because of childhood abuse, etc. �Therefore, I no longer put everyone in the "same boat" when I hear of transgendered people. �I hope that I may approach each individual individually with compassion and consider the merits of each circumstance before forming any kind of opinion. �After all, Jesus came into the world not to condemn the world but that the world might be saved. �It is my hearts desire that all people everywhere come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior and I cannot get that message across with prejudice and contempt. �A word to other authors who may read this story: �I am turned off completely by those who use vulgar, pornographic events filled with women hating men, bondage and butt plugs, etc to try to write a story which is nothing but 99.9% filth. �Therefore, I would recommend that they study this story carefully. �It presents a compelling case of necessity of understand, compassion, and love among a world of hate and it is presented with a quality that even a Preacher such as I can enjoy it even when I do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle as is condemned in the Holy Scriptures and I do not believe that I have compromised the integrity of a Holy God in doing so. �Please continue to write on this high level and I will continue to read such stories with please and understanding. �Thank you for being on the moral high ground in this story.

I read all 42 chapters. I found the story to be intensly emotionally wrenching. I foung myself near unto tears on many occasions. BUT, I have a major complaint about some of the characters. How is it, that the immediate family (mother and aunt), after watching Angel have a majot transgender breakdown, conspired and allowed Rich to be set up and pushed toward another potential crises. In my opinion, you do not set someone up for something, no matter how much you may feel they want it, after they failed to deal with a similar opportunity. This is not something you do to someone you love. Or do I have some kind of bizarre sense of morality?

In rereading my comments, written in the heat of passion, I can see where it appears that the story itself, and its author, are the target of my pain and anger. For that, I apologize. I guess it's up to you whether you take my word for it, but they really are not. I am in fact venting on the sort of people that this story describes (or, at least, the portion I read before I needed to stop), not the story itself. I really meant what I wrote in "I can get all of that I want just by contemplating my own life, and the lives of many people I have known." -- I am speaking of a lifetime of individual and group psychotherapy spent trying to stop the bleeding and heal the wounds. Having written 'How It All Began - Five Years Old,' I am sure that you know what I am talking about.

I read fiction because I would like to experience something else for a while other than the work of therapy, which consists largely of dredging the toxic waste dump between my ears. Since many of us in the TG community have some common experiences (some of which are what put some of us here in the first place), and many authors write TG fiction as outlets for their experiences and feelings, I sometimes find myself reading a story that has me splashing down right in the middle of my "stuff" instead of experiencing that hoped-for "something else." That can be a Good Thing[tm], but sometimes it smacks some very raw nerves far too hard, and I just have to bail out.

So, yes, Angel, I was compelled to write about something I did not complete. Lame or not, it sometimes works out that way; you might even find it happening to you, some day, where you find yourself talking about something that you just had to leave. It happens to most of us: who knows where that marriage, job, support group, whatever, might have gone if you had just stuck it out a little longer?

At least I did make some effort to be honest about it, though, even while I was in the midst of some very strong feelings. And I didn't make any assumptions about where the story would go from where I left it. The only conclusion I actually made is "I can't take the heat, so I'm getting out of the kitchen." Crippled that may be, but so am I, and I don't give a flying fig any more who knows it. When people ask me what I do for a living, and then respond with "that must be nice" to my being on disability, I tell them, "believe me, you do not want my sort of 'vacation'."

For whatever it's worth, a story written well enough -- with credible, authentic characters developed well enough -- to evoke strong emotions in the reader... That there, is an indication of quality.

Geeze, you sure do go on and on there girl. Anyway, you did well in your discourse, but one should never conclude with a conclusion if one did not read the entire story. Um, there are 42 chapters in this story and you stopped a little less than halfway through it.

Just let me say, that if you would have continued, you could have eliminated much of what you went on here at length about.

By the way, the time frame of when this story took place was back in the sixties, and the flashbacks were back in the early and late fifties. The awareness of religions in the USA were mostly THE BIG THREE we hardly knew about any of the others. We didnt even care really, most people still don't care unless they need to learn them for school or something.

Anyway, stopping with less than half of the story read and being compelled to write this? Um, well, okay, stop reading it, just don't make any conclusions based on things you haven't even read okay?

You're assuming how my story continued and have proven to those who have read the story to its completion that you've missed the moral lessens and how the main character really lived through this and what they had learned. I can't blame you for this, you didn't read the complete story.

I bailed out of this story somewhere in part 19, so I can only speak to the portion that I have read. This is a story of violence. I suspect that the reason why I seem to be the only person among the many who have posted their comments who sees it that way is because all of the violence takes place at the psychic and emotional level, where it is hidden under the softness of women's touch and sugar-coated with protestations of love, and none at the physical level, nor at the level of overt coercion.

How I would classify this story: Sub-genre: the (often socially isolated) "pretty boy" or androgynous male who, after being force-feminized (sub-class: forced by means of manipulation, as opposed to overt coercion [eg. by blackmail] or seduction [eg. where a girl uses her sexual attractiveness and a romantic relationship to feminize a boyfriend]), makes a wholly convincing and very striking girl. Sub-sub-genre: the "pretty boy" who, in the story, is just entering puberty, turns out to be intersexed, or to have a glandular problem and hormonal imbalance, such that he is beginning to develop female secondary sexual characteristics (breast development, female pattern fat distribution to chest and hips) instead of male ones.

This story is very similar to the Gaby series by Maddy Bell: in both stories, the gentle, accommodating, trusting, and loving nature of the main character is used against him by the women around him to maneuver and manipulate him into a femininity that he would not have chosen for himself, and is actually contrary to his fundamental nature. (The portion where he must assume feminine guise for employment purposes is more like "The Saga of Tuck" by Ellen Hayes, where Tuck poses as a girl for a babysitting job.) However, while Drew is manipulated into being Gaby by his peer group (with his girlfriend, Maddy, as the primary instigator), the protagonist of this story is manipulated by his own extended family, the adults who are responsible for his care and well being. As with the stories of Judi Emmerich, which feature mothers that force fem their trusting and vulnerable sons by means of manipulation and parental pressure, this is a particularly insidious and disturbing story element that conjures images of child abuse.

It may well be that, like Judi Emmerich, the author of this story is not aware of the psycho-emotional violence which it contains. In her web-log entry on Top Shelf/Big Closet titled "Forced Feminization: A Writer's Explanation!", Judi defends her stories as fantasies "...for the enjoyment of individuals who would have loved being prettily dressed by their mothers or other female relatives, but who never had the chance." Though she claims that they are not "...an instructional manual to coerce boys into becoming someone they do not choose to be," they contain vividly detailed and psychologically valid dialogues between mothers and their sons that could be used for exactly that. Readers of her stories are able to perceive what she cannot, as shown by the comments that accompany them on Fictionmania. This story contains some of the same elements, though they are not as obvious, sharing space as they do with other elements in a fairly complex storyline.

Then again, Angel may well be aware of the (violent) forced fem aspects of her story, after all. One of the most unusual components it contains is a main character who is much more "mature" and self-aware than are many people of any age, gender, or culture. He "puts it together" how he was maneuvered into a corner and "set up" in part 8, shortly after he returns home. By part 9, his thoughts include questions concerning why they had "...decided to force me into these situations? Why had they decided this role for me to take for my future?" His awareness that saying "no" to it all is not an option is not just left to be inferred, either, but stated explicitly in the story.

In part 9, we are made aware of the price the main character is already paying for his social isolation, and for the demands upon him to be a surrogate parent for his younger disabled siblings, which is robbing him of his childhood. Now we get to see his anguish, pain, and confusion increase as the adults in his life further box him in (note that, in deciding what is "best" for him, none of them assist him with his responsibilities in any way). Following the humiliation of the early parts (1-8) of the story, We discover (along with the main character, in some cases) just how many times he was Shanghaied, outflanked, maneuvered, railroaded, buffaloed, and just plain tricked into skirts, by both his neighbors and his own family. (In the case of his family, they have the unmitigated gall to tell him bald-facedly just how they pulled the wool over his eyes.) This discussion culminates in part 15, where he spells it out for them: "To trick someone into something is not a nice thing to do. It might speed things along, but it still is hurtful and damaging to them." He then explains why "...looking like a girl is not enough. You have to be a girl to be a girl!"

Though our hero's "steering committee" responds to this exposition by feeling kicked in the head and ass, that does not slow them down in the least. In part 16, they drag him out to a specialty shop to be fitted with custom-made prosthetic breasts and hip pads which, after being applied and bonded, are immediately followed by a makeover, a dress, hose, and heels. Stood in front of a 3-sided mirror, he barely has time to assimilate the fact that the pretty girl in the reflection is him before he is hustled back outside and bundled into the car again, where he knows he is being taken for cosmetic surgery to disguise his genitals. Sensory overload turns into shock, so that by the time he arrives at the doctor's office in part 17, he is severely decompensating and dissociated, suffering an incipient personality split. (Can you say "schizophrenia"? This Latin word, literally translated, means "split head.")

Does that stop these scheming women? No, it only slows them down a little -- our hero(ine) gets a sedating injection to medicate away his feelings, and then the procedure proceeds! I am somewhat reminded of the Gaby fanfic by Kate Hart titled "Drew's Meltdown," which explores the likely destructive consequences of constant manipulation and humiliation. Unlike the Drew of that story, the doctor in this story neither protects the main character, nor does she call the perpetrators to task.

So Angel may well have been aware of the violence in her own story -- and, then again, she may not have. In either case, she does a remarkable job in her true-to-life description of the shock her main character suffers in response to psychological TRAUMA.

What this story contains that provokes me to write at length about it (assuming that anyone is even still with me at this point) when other stories don't is the many accurate depictions of how ordinary people actually behave in the real world: parents who "know what is best for you"; mothers who choose their "idiot" male children's clothing for them, and give them no voice in the matter (not even a veto), thus creating another self-fulfilling prophecy -- men who do not know how to dress themselves; women who, in the single-minded pursuit of whatever it is they happen to want at the moment, leave all around them feeling like they've been hit by a big 16-wheeler; people who get what they want while appearing to leave their targets (such as the main character in this story) a choice by arranging to make the price of saying "no" so high that their targets will likely not be able to pay it. The questions the protagonist asks himself are questions an intelligent person would actually ask in the circumstances, and it is equally likely that he would *not* begin to wonder if the the love and trust he holds for the adults on whom he depends for his care might be misplaced.

Another reflection of reality is the way most TG fiction "buys into" the notion commonly held in our society that one must be female to show such traits as sensitivity, compassion, emotional expression (through the language of clothing, among other things), gracefulness, and sensuality, or to embrace values that, traditionally, have been held by women. This story does the same, despite this pretty speech in part 9: "What makes you so special to us, Ricky, is your qualities. Many boys and men would call them girl's or women's feelings. THEY ARE NOT! Don't you ever even think that they are exclusive to girls and women!" Yet the same person is telling him (in part 10) "You already have an androgynous mind, Ricky, now you must appear androgynous." (This is something that is presented as beneficial to him, "for your own good," quite apart from the employment opportunity.) In part 11, we even get this bit of feminist propaganda (which is not uncommon in TG stories): "Man in his twisted wisdom decided to call God a He! Why? Because males ruled the world! Because males decided if they called God a She, the awesome power God has would be diminished in mankind's eyes." (Ahem, have we forgotten about early agricultural peoples, who celebrated fertility goddesses? Tell that to Kali worshipers and see how far you get! It is the nomadic peoples who depend upon animal husbandry, such as the ancient Hebrews, who envision their gods as male. There are other faiths in the world besides The Big Three, the descendants of the children of Abraham, y'know.)

I've also known people (both male and female) who had to be surrogate parents to their younger siblings, and consequently were robbed of their childhoods. They are generally very tough-minded and able to stand up to the world (that's a good thing), but the scars from having had to grow up too fast and take too much responsibility too soon are also very obvious.

The final dose of reality that prompted me to throw in the towel came in part 18, where our "new girl" asks for advice on how to talk to his girlfriend who lives next door on the phone and explain his absence without revealing his new identity and "...without fibbing or making too much up!" He gets what may be his first lesson in "girl 101": "...tell her as much of the truth as you can. It is always best to do that. When you have to either make something up or not say anything, it is best not to say anything." These, of course, are the rudiments of the fine feminine art of lying by omission, which some women rationalize as not lying at all! Blech!

Who the heck needs forced fem stories with a main character who is hurt and confused because he is too gentle, compassionate, and trusting to stand up to family and neighbors who run right over the top of him? I can get all of that I want just by contemplating my own life, and the lives of many people I have known.

Angel, I am glad that you are posting once again at Big Closet. Me, I much prefer the longer chapters that you have posted there. Your Why Me story brings a tear to my eyes. I hope that you post the story you had on your website Me And My Sisters. If I am not mistaken, it is a variation of Why Me. You write stories that touch the heart. I hope that you continue �to post your stories. I know that you have quite a few fans at Big Closet. Me, I still hope to be able to write as well as you do. Take care of yourself and your family.

All done with your story! I hate finishing a really good story! It's like saying good byes and I have always hated saying good bye as well! �Anyway, I have found this to be one of the best stories I have read on stoysite. Their has been only two others that I can honestly say that about as I am pretty picky. I do not enjoy slutty or nasty stories as I do not think of them as reasitic. I guess I must be a prude.

I found that angel was a sort of oddity but �soon came to love the story and when it came to where Rich went to the home I had to �praise him and then things changed and he was turned into a girl well I almost came to tears. As the story ran along the lines of my life . �Please keep up the good work and please try to keep us the readers up to date on how well rachel ann is doing . This story has hit a �very deep spot deep within me and has kepy me going in life. Once again thank you and please try to keep the story alive.

This is a very moving story that does grip the imagination and stir the soul to deep thinking as it attempts to unravel the thoughts and emotions of someone whose body does not conform to the expectations of the great majority.  The resolution of Rich/Ricky/Angel/Rachel's dilemma is satisfying, although the very many varied experiences that lead up to it do give the impression of trying to bring in every possible experience of transgender/transexual and this leads to an imbalance between the whole story and its resolution.  However, over all I appreciate this as a very good story putting over a whole series of very good points, valid indeed for very few people but perhaps being seized on by far many more to further their own fantasies.

a very heart touching story. i feel for angel(ricky). i was growing up at the same time as angel was. i know how angel felt as i have felt the same way all my life. the one exception is my body is all male. i do not have the option of looking female. i often wish i did. i just wish i could have had the understanding family that angel had. i envy her as i wish i could have experianced some of the things that she did. hope to see more of the beatiful girl and what becomes of her. great story!!!!!

All this way and not a final FRIPSY? What the hell?

I started reading this story and found that I couldn't stop. I was up most of the night reading. The unusual structure of the story was quite interesting: it starts as a regular story of a 15-year-old social misfit who (the reader assumes) is being guided into a more fulfilling feminine life, but part of the way thrugh the story, we get a flashback of how the protagonist has already experienced one such gender reversal, and had blocked it out of his memory! At first I wondered how anyone could forget such a major portion of his/her life, but the author had prepared the groundwork for the explanation, with Rich/Rachel's hidden place in the mind where he/she retreats when reality threatens to become unbearable. So when faced with extreme trauma, all painful memories can be banished there, away from consciousness. This device of a character uncovering long-suppressed memories rather than telling the story in a strictly chronological narrative gives the story a poignancy that's rare. I certainly hope we haven't heard the last of Rachel, and I'll look forward to future installments.

Angel, Your stories are wonderful and you can use any FRASPING words you like.  They are much more appreciated that the ^*+#@^ words.  They are nice exprecions of a childs thoughts who hasn't yet learned the vulgarities of adulthood.  Please keep up the good work and continue on with A Life Everchanging, it is wonderful.  Respectfully, Joe.

I am completely hooked on your writing, especially "A Life Ever Changing".  Assuming that the author puts a lot of themselves into their works, that is, that their writing is semi-autobiographical, I hope that both you and your stories turn out to have a happy ending.

Hello to all of me readers.

I have sent all 43 parts to date of "A Life Ever Changing" to Crystal for posting here. Also a new story "Betrayed By Those I Love" which is in two parts and is complete.

Just to let you all know I am working on "Queen of Harvest Moon" and will only post the rest when it is completed.

Well Angel, this is a very good story...I wasn't too interested in the last part about the medical store...that part seemed boring to me for some reason...but you are a very good writer and I am sure others liked it...I just love it when a story turns out this way for a person undergoing transition...a trial period for now, if you will, but nevertheless transition.

When I went through my transition there were only three major surgeries performed...I did not have the (temporary) procedure Ricky had, but the more permanent one that has made me what I am today...I could say I wish for the good old days again, but everyday of my life as a woman has been the good old days.

You keep up the good work girl...I enjoy every chapter of this story.

I have read so far through chapter 18...this is a wonderful story of love and compassion...however, the procedure Ricky went through to become Rachael, I did not go through, but I had plenty of love and acceptance for who I was rather that who I was supposed to be in the eyes of society. This is a very nice and interesting story...I will reserve further comments until i have read what is posted so far through chapter 20...

Forgive me for not editing this part as well as I could. I did not remove the Frapst and Fripsy words some of you really dislike. They are few and far between now, but they are still scattered here and there. The original editor Erin HalfElvin from The Big Closet also added the song Lyrics and the sub-titles for the chapters. Your writing is mature and full of fun.  It is most pleasing that you have not taken the male out of the story.  The balance you are creating is an ideal for how all of us should live - if at all possible.  Insights provided can teach us all.  Hope he gets the girl next door!  Thank you for all your time, effort and creativity.

Dear Angel,
    PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! post the next chapter in this wonderful story.  It is a wonderful story that has not only captured my interest but has also helped me to understand what I have felt all my life.  Your references to the androgynous state of God, remind me that we are all created in his image both body and mind.  It is humans that have forgotten that we are filled with emotions that should never be suppressed.  These emotions either male or female can be both or neither.

    I hope to see the next chapter VERY SOON!

I love this story. I have read up to chapter 6 and get more and more exited, cannot wait for the next chapterss.
I wish I had ben offered a job of that type at that age. I would have offered to work 20 hours pr day, and loved to have such well wishing ladies buy attractive clothess.
I can guess what is coming and I hope our hero will be well taught and he will wear his new clothes so we all can be proud of him.

I love this story and can't wait till the next chapter comes out. It would be a dream come true to have this happen to me.  Keep up the great work.

Of course, people who like swear words (I don't care one way or another) have an additional option.  They can read your story, pop it into a word processor and do a global search and replace on both words if they want to see what they look like that raw and raunchy.  

Now why would someone need to replace a non-swear word with another non-swear word? Think about it for a second okay?

If you read the story and come across the word FRIPSY it could be replaced with shit nicely could it not?

As for FRAPST, well that one is a stronger word that also begins with an 'F' and but it ends with the letter 'K' alright?

These nice little cute substitutions are phased out as the story continues. I hope you don't mind them all that much. As a child and now as an adult, I still hate using swear words.

I don't understand either.  I mean.  Is it a substitute for heck, doggone it or dang it or is it a replacement for those "other" words?  It is kind of startling because its like you're reading another language and except for that I really enjoyed this story a lot!
