I have worked the street, and the story rings true. its odd the things that jog our memories, but the simple and primitive phrasings added to the realism. When your in that situation you become.. simple, your world is far more brutal then it should be. I look back now on that time in my life and I'm not anywhere near the same person I was then, you can become... domesticated. But somewhere inside of me, years after the fact, that ferral and wounded creature remains, with her street slang and her $10 romances..

Barbi,
I know that area of NY very well.  I worked there (in a restaurant not as a tranny whore).  I used to see the girls on my way to and from work and indeed, they looked down-trodden.  I hope the part about the killings was fiction but I can picture it happening... very sad.  Thanks for the story... it's a change of pace from the erotica.

I don't want to seem a bit demanding, but you could have handled your protagonist's transition from the steps of the Liberty Inn to Hart Island with a little more elaboration.

At least you named names.

You are getting better and better. Keep writing!

Sad story. Occassionally, these kind of tales remind that the tg world isn't all mid class 'what to wear' hassles.... Part of Barbie's story that rings true is the sense of isolation her heroine exhibits. her lack of connection to the other tg's she coexists with. How a beautiful young tranny winds up desperate and murdered is a long long story, and here we get the sad ending....
i'd like to read a story based upon a realistic portrayal of a tranny who's been through the grinder, learned from her mistakes, and has somehow found a life where she greets each day as an adventure, the problems unique to tg life just a challenge, and finally accepting it all and being witty and good humoured, even when the dangers are nearly mortal. TGs belong in this world, despite 1000's of years of bad press and your usual homophobic mentality (invariably expressed by the loudest 'closet queen' types, fyi) and i mean w/out the clownish aspects that the driven herd likes to picture....

A grim story, a salutary reminder of how far our erotic fantasies
about tranny prostitution may be from the reality. Thanks for
writing this & sharing it with us.

While I am not impress with that part of the world, I understand you can't get away from it.  And I also have to say you did a very loving job of honoring people who must have been possibly your friends.  Though some may look down on what they did or do for a living it takes more guts to share a story for those that you may have been close to and to show that somewhere in life they meant a lot to someone.  Thank you for sharing this story and thnak you for honoring there memory!
