It's always fun watching the early writings of new authors and then watching them develope.  I see your story. And I saw you develope your theme.  But the average reader isn't as smart as you nor are they familiar with what you are tryong  to say.  Your complex sentence structure needs parsing and punctuation.  A good editor can do that for you and allow you the joy of creation.

Its a fun read, even if it seems cruel and unjustified.  Thank you for sharing it with us.

Could do with some basic punctuation particularly inverted commas.

Cindy, I think you omitted the most important part of your story, the first part. That's where we might have read about the situation: courtship, marriage, settling down, maybe a bit of love culminating in a sexual relationship of some sort, then the cruel behavior of the young man (if you gave his original name, I have forgotten because the fellow himself was of no particular interest).

How did the wife go from agreeing to marriage to the point we find her in this (very) short story? Surely she had an inner life -- here, one filled with turmoil and resentment. And then, something happened. She seized the helm of their little ship and became the captain. How on earth did THAT happen? I mean, what happened inside her to bring about her totally new stance toward life?

At the end, the only vision we (and our now long-suffering heroine) have of the future is endless labor and (s)exploitation. This is pretty grim stuff, don'tcha think? -- What if, for instance, little Cindy were treated so that she liked her new lifestyle? (And so that we got to read about her new-found pleasures?)

The importance of reader feedback cannot be overstated.   Authors rely on it to improve their future works, and it gives them the incentive to write more stories if they know that their hard work has been appreciated.  I am not saying that comments must all be lauditory.  Authors often appreciate honest, constructive criticism over simple remarks like 'Great story', although simple praise is appreciated also.  There is no limit on how much you can enter in the 'comments' box.   Sentences will automatically word wrap at the end of the line so please do not use your carriage return/enter key except at the end of your paragraphs.

It is not necessary to use your real name here, and, email addresses are optional.  Posting your email address will allow the author to thank you for taking the time to post your comments, and/or discuss critiques and address possible concerns.

Be forewarned that abusive remarks and language will be removed, and the posters may be banned from this AND other areas of StorySite.
