I just finished my student teaching last fall in CNY.  I also had a tough time in an urban middle school.  My school (SUNY/Cortland)has a "remedial student teaching" program for those students who do poorly in their placement.

I don't know what school you go to but there must be some way to get this problem resolved.

I loved your story by the way, and the references to the Capital District really caught me eye.  The mall Sami went to...was it Crossgates?  I lived in Averill Park for 4 years so I know my way around.

Full of beauty and emotion, this story was affecting to read.  The only changes I would want to see are more about the main character's tragic experience at the start of the story, to establish why he was so shaken, and more proofreading.  Please don't feel bad that I think there could be improvement -- those are only two things in a story where everything else went right!
