I also agree that this story was sweet and sentimental but I felt you should have developed the story more. Joan's transformation would have been intersting reading.

Sweet is the only word I can think of to describe your story. And for  all of us who had a mother who wanted a daughter the story had that wonderful good taste that made it feel so real.  I will never forget at the age of 8, my mother wondering if I would like to go to a costume party as a girl..the thrill of that experience began a bond that lasted until her passing.  I learned to cook and sew and, yes, I too made a dress ( that I have kept to this day in her memory)  there was never any talk of sex between us but as I grew older and wiser my feminine side found those who would fill a need..your story was such a thrill to read  DO write more and tell us how Joan  became the beautiful woman with whom you ended the story.

Agree with the other comments.  Basically love the story, but just one criticism: There should have been much more detail on John's transformation into girlhood, especially the selection of girl underthings and hair styling.  But still darling.

Dear Heidi,

Heidi would have been the name of our 3rd daughter! However we only had one girl. My wife and I had picked out 48 names for the 1st dozen children, male and female. We only had three.

I thoroughly enjoyed your story. It was, indeed, a sweet tale. I would have liked to read more detail on Mom changing John to Joan and what when on, "between-the-ears," in both of them. You touched on that briefly. I noticed that you haven't written for a while. Please don't stop. Your storyline flows so beautifully. It's refreshing to read.

A wonderful little tale!  I hope we hear more about Joan.  Don't be afraid to spend some time developing background, though.  I feel there is so much more that Joan is feeling and wants to tell us.
