Having been a Pathfinder in the Nam during 67-68, this brought back more than one "wonderful night" spent in A Shau Valley over 41 years ago. Your story is very real regarding what goes through a person's mind when wounded. When I was "kissed on the cheek" by an AK-47, my thought was "If I die, Mom will NEVER speak to me again."

I love the ending.

A good piece sugar, and it goes way beyond the typical 'I am boy. I am sad. I am girl. I am happy' pieces that litter this site.

Thanks for sharing sugar.

War is hell!
Then you die.
 If you don't,
you spend the next 50 years wishing you could do more with your talents to justify your continued existance.
When death is all around, life either becomes so cheap it is throw away, or it becomes so precious that any sacrifice is worth its preservation.
 End senseless killing.

This one was a little too negative for me.  It seemed more like a bad anti-war piece more than TG fiction.  You should read up on WWI and WWII a little more thoroughly; especially the China, Burma, and India areas.  You might feel a little differently.

The importance of reader feedback cannot be overstated.   Authors rely on it to improve their future works, and it gives them the incentive to write more stories if they know that their hard work has been appreciated.  I am not saying that comments must all be lauditory.  Authors often appreciate honest, constructive criticism over simple remarks like 'Great story', although simple praise is appreciated also.  There is no limit on how much you can enter in the 'comments' box.   Sentences will automatically word wrap at the end of the line so please do not use your carriage return/enter key except at the end of your paragraphs.

It is not necessary to use your real name here, and, email addresses are optional.  Posting your email address will allow the author to thank you for taking the time to post your comments, and/or discuss critiques and address possible concerns.
