I thought this story was boring and tedious. There were so many great elements introduced into the story and the writer went nowhere with them. Instead of plodding for such a long story about barbie dolls how about Brandon exploring more of his feelings. How about Kyle comming forward and showing some form of attraction to Brandon. Brandon then not knowing why he feels this way toward Kyle, but it really Tiffany emerging within him. Sorry, but a long story and really nothing was acheived in the end. Bad read.

I hope and pray that Tiffany's life was never this "fun." It is a harsh thing, when your life's experiences lead you to believe that you would have been better off having been born someone, or something, else. It's a wonderful fantasy, how Brandon is embraced as Tiffany, but underneath that is the message that he is just no good at all, and has no value to anyone, as Brandon.

My life has lead me to the same conclusions as Brandon's has, and I suffer from it all of the time. I can only speak for myself, but I get the idea that many other people in the same "boat" suffer as I do. In general, our life expectancy is not very long, as many of us just cannot tolerate the pain. I wouldn't wish this life on my worst enemy. So, while it makes for a beautiful fantasy, to be able to pretend to be someone else and have the world embrace us as such, I would never wish upon anyone the sort of life that makes us want to escape into another dimension in the first place. Much better a world that can accept and value our Brandons, rather than a world that tries to kill them.

This is my kind of story...I don't buy most of this stories,but this one was good...

I like it from a lot of perspectives.

There is no humiliation or abuse in it.
The kid is eleven when he starts to feel uncomfortable as a guy.
That seems to fit with those trans gendered experiences I've read about.
And even though sugarcoated it still seems factual in some sense.

Although I'm still not sure which way the kid will turn :)
On the other hand, he's only eleven so puberty should be some time away.

I enjoyed this story very much. For a while I wished it were my name instead of Brandon's and Peggy Sue was the author, I liked it so much. But it wasn't my story, it just had a feeling to it that I wished my story could have had -- of bullies who went down and stayed down; of friends who were really friends; of parents who cared more of what their child felt than of what their associates might have said ... �

I found this a tender and moving story that I read through from beginning to end without taking a break. � I particularly liked the tender warm relationship between Brandon (Tiffany) and Amy. � How many of us would do anything to have friendship like that

This story is more "sweet and sentimental" (especially when it gets past the bullying parts) than many stories that are so categorized. I would likely not have found it had it not been for a comment left on the Story Site CyberBoard.

I believe that the characters an author writes have to exist in the author's heart before they can truly live on the author's page. I do not think that this authenticity can be successfully faked. I sense from her writing that Tiffany's characters live and breathe within her, that they are a reflection of who she is. I feel that Tiffany must be a beautiful person, and someone who is very special...

This story is, in my experience, very unusual in TG fiction. Stories about the socially isolated (and sometimes abused) "pretty boy" or androgynous male who makes a totally convincing and very pretty (if not spectacular) girl, whose life opens up when he takes the feminine role and begins to transition, are very common in the genre, and this story is of that type. However, in most of the other stories, the main character is coerced, manipulated, seduced, or pressured into femininity by some other person, before he finds his world opening up.

In this story, Brandon makes the decision on his own, when he cannot take the bullying and abuse any more. In part 1 chapter 8, he decides that his life would have been better had he been born female, and takes his first step towards transition. This is how it actually happens for many of us who become gender dysphoric as a result of our experiences (except our decisions are not always made consciously). Being that the story premise is very true-to-life for many of us, it becomes much easier to connect to the story and its characters.

The comment on Crystal's CyberBoard started a discussion thread in which the author has participated. If you stop by and leave a comment there, you may very well get a response. :)

�I discovered the internet in 1994 (fall). �This was just before the explosion of the WWW world. �Prior to the WWW phenomenon we used search tools like Gopher, Archie, and Veronica. �And we were able to read documents online.

�Articles on GID were rare but they were out there. �More common was TG fiction. �There was a LOT of it and it was all FREE. �I remember spending many many days doing nothing but reading.

�I lived with a student who shared his university account with us. �We'd connect via modem to the university where we'd have a text based (telnet) interface to the system.

�This is how I discovered IRC, FTP, and much more.

It all seems to have gone very easy for Tiffany, and she has been really lucky with friends and so on. It might seem a bit too unreal sometimes, but that's exactly the kind of stories I like to read. :)

I'm not exactly sure about this, but I felt I needed to say something, it says "September 1994" in the first chapter, then you mention Internet, and some other things. In 1994 home computers were unusual here, and Internet connection even more unusual. I guess that those who had use of them in work etc. had it.

But how easy was it back then to search for GID, and SRS etc? well, I guess the US is often a bit before us with new technology. It was just something I thought of as I was reading.

I don't mind if the technology don't match the years because it is a great story. And I'm assuming I'm wrong since I was only 14 in 1944 and don't remember the year that well.

Looking forward to more. :)

I hope you will never feel the need to apologize for having "too much disbelief to suspend," as one commentator quipped somewhere on Story Site. "It's only fiction!" is never any comfort to the reader who has lost that magical sense of "this could actually happen, and perhaps may even *have* happened," and it is certainly no excuse to the reader who feels hir intelligence insulted by an implausible "fish" story that even a "person in the street" could never swallow whole.

Suspension of disbelief is a fickle creature, much like humor, and is entirely a personal choice. I never make any apologies for setting the bar very high on my willingness to suspend disbelief. The result is that I have been fortunate enough to read great fiction that really soars. I see nothing wrong with wanting the best.

Wonderful story, interesting characters and the touch of drama with the grandfather's heart condition really seemed to give the story another dimension! The pain and suffering that Brandon had to contend with, the self-discovery and revelation of his transgendered condition, the ultimate happiness and light at the end of the tunnel, all combined to create a very entertaining tale. Would that more of our kind could be and could have been blessed with the type of understanding parents and friends that you created for Brandon/Tiffany!

Oh, just wanted to add that I wish it could have been like this for me, for any preteen who is feeling like they are in the wrong body, MtF or FtM or whatever. �There was a lot of understanding, a lot of love, a lot of support and good friendships. �I found myself being melancholy because of that, since my own outting was traumatic and very destructive to my psyche. �So that was exceptionally well done.

Well, I just finished a marathon of reading the whole thing over the course of a day. �

The good: �Tiffany has a real flair for descriptive writing and an excellent grasp of how conversation works. �I was rarely lost as to whom was speaking at any one time, and the narrative was very well done. �I saw no grammatical errors and only a few errors of spelling, but with a work this size a couple typos are to be expected.

The indifferent: �One stylistic problem I noticed was starting sentences with numbers. �Instead of starting the sentence with the actual digits, it is supposed to be started with the number spelled out. �That detracted somewhat, and it was something that was able to be overlooked. �I was a bit confused by the chapter breaks, since the story flowed from one event and scene into the same with the chapter break. �I would suggest that Tiffany consolidate the chapters so that the chapter breaks come at scene changes.

The bad: �I found some parts unrealistic. �There was a lot of exposition and character building in the first three parts, where the main character is working hard to hide what he is and worries about this new situation he has. �But once he's outted, there seems to be a compete and total reversal of that attitude, from one of fear and hiding to everything out in the open now, now now.... �It was an extreme attitude change that I thought didn't have any basis for being in the story. �Then the reaction of the people around her at the end of the story. �Minor bumps, some anger, but everyone accepting without problems or even complaints. �I found that to be highly unrealistic, some conflict in that section would have been nice to see, especially given the first several chapters of the story, setting up the prejudice and hatred of many of the kids toward the protagonist, yet it totally evaporates at the end. �

I understand this is a fantasy and in fantasy things go well and things happen that have little relation to reality. �For that, I can overlook the "indifferent" and the "bad" sections. �I can give this story seven out of ten stars without a problem, and if you like character driven stories I can give it eight stars. �I will say I was crying when her best friend found out and what happened. �Tears of happiness, which means I was investing myself and my emotions in the story, like a good story should get you to do.

And I can't give it a higher recommendation than that.

This is an extremely well written and plausible sounding tale, the characters are round and develop like real people do, all the background scenery fits and supports the plot, and it was a pleasure to read.

I am sure everyone will feel envious that Brandon/Tiffany �was so accepted by parents, grandparents, schoolmates, and in general, with only a couple of exceptions. �The exceptions just added some variety and increased the verisimilitude of the tale. �Thank you, Ms Shar, and well done! �I am sure that I am not alone in hoping that we will soon see more from your pen.

I admit that I started reading this story with a bit of trepidation. From the description, I was expecting another small boy is bullied and becomes a tormented sissy. As I read, I was pleasantly surprised to see that, while he was tormented he didn't get forced into being a sissy.

The fact that he slowly became more feminine, and became a girl, not the parody of girl that is so often used in stories is one of the best things about the story. That it is also well written, and has very few typos, and grammar mistakes is even better.

I hope that you do continue the story. Part of me wants you tell the story of Tiffany's summer, another wants you to jump to the school year. I don't want to read about her later life, at least not now, actually a good place, in my opinion, to end the entire story would be when she goes to have SRS. Getting a hug from her family and friends just before going into the OR.

A very warm and touching story. I have been in the closet all my life now 58. I wish I could have come out when I was young and enjoyed being my true self. Tiffany you go girl

What a great way to solve my problem...... �With total disclosure that didn't give anybody any grief! � I was concerned that there would be punishments dished out by boys who wouldn't understand..... Too easy to write and make cheap thrills for some wierdos... �This is a great piece of writing and could be shared with the parents of any young cross-dress/geneder guy. � I'd still like to read something similar set in later life, �with characters like Brandon and Amy falling in love. � By the way... what happened to Amy in the last chapter (6).... she was so supportive in the first four or even five... �I had fallen in love with her!!!! �LOL WbG xx �PS: �Keep writing!

Chapter 5 has me a bit confused about who knows and who doesn't know Brandon's/Tiffany's secret-that's-not-a-secret-much-longer..... �None of the boys seem to be paying attention to 'her' except a little lustfully(!)... some of them must know him as Brandon..... �Never mind; �I love the dialgue between the girls and the dressing details are lovely. �The make-up and beauty is developing nicely, �albeit a bit premature for early-teen girls.... or am I being outdated? � The hair salon experience could have been made more if - a TV/TG girl's FIRST salon visit is one of the most important moments in her life!!

Chapter 4, �with its description of Brandon's parents' disclosure of their noticing his changes was very lifelike and believable....... �You could even be there with them....... � All a bit too fast for me though...... �Even if the parents see what he/she is going through, �it's a little early to wade in with possible solutions.....! �Let him dress, �for sure, �and let him and Amy make their friendship secure.... Let him enjoy his cross-dressing before the gender dysphoria gets too strong a hold........ � He'd make a lovely husband!

Chapter 3 is a WOW... how many of us have found that a swimsuit is a catalyst to all sorts of dreams! � Delightful pace in the writing.... sometimes leaving the reader dying for the next development in (Tiff's) girliness........ � The involvement of the two Moms is becoming more curious... what's that all about???!

Chapter 2 is nice.... an easy paced piece that finds Brandon increasingly at home with the girls around him.... �I guess we have to have the background threat of the "Bad Boys" catching up with him/her..... � When do we find out about his parents' reaction to his growing girliness? �I'm looking forward to revelations in the next chapter. �Nice writing... �Than you Tiffany. �LOL WbG xx
