Jane.  I have tried to read several of your stories, but I always seem to get frustrated and, eventually, lost.  Then I give up and swear off your stories.

The thing is, you have a good imagination, and if you'd allow some assistance with your grammer, spelling, etc, I know you'd get a lot more hits on your stories and much better reviews on them.

I took the liberty of editing one of your stories, 'Once I Was', and I would like you to take a look at what I did.  Any competent editor could do as well, if not better.

If you don't want this kind of help, well, that's on you, but many have offered.  They wouldn't do that if they didn't think your stories weren't worth reading.

The story that I edited will remain on my hard drive until and unless you reply, at which point I will either send it to you for your perusal, or delete it, if that's what you want.

I await your reply

It was too long for an outline and too sketchy to tell much of a story.  Grammar and punctuation go out of style? Not unless *communication* goes out of style.  Part of a writer's job is to make it relatively easy for the reader to understand the thoughts the writer wants to convey.  Small differences (or lacks) in punctuation can make huge differences in meaning.

I hope this was just a test run (which would be better done on one of the TG fiction discussion lists).

Sorry, no stars,
Deni

Oh, and Jill is correct - of course - violence is no answer to implacable violence. What we desperately need is a modern-day Neville Chamberlain, who can negotiate another "peace in our time".

Whatever happened to spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and coherent thoughts? I thought there was at least a minimal amount of editing before publication, but I was obviously wrong this time. There may be a good story in there, but it's too well hidden for me to find it.

Great Story.  There has to be at least one full length novel in there somewhere.  A whole new world future to write about.  Thanks.

Wow... what a great story.

A paragraph now and then might help, especially to keep the dialogue straight.

Although... I liked it the way it was told... stream of consciousness.  Who's to say such things as paragraphs, 'correct' spelling and grammer didn't go out of vogue in the future.  Maybe he (and all other men) were programmed to have a low level of communication skills so they couldn't unite once the balance of population inevitably came back to 50/50 or 53/47 with more men, as the men would start living longer since woman would have the heart attacks and other stress related diseases.

This is a story that needs to be told.  Testosterone overdosed men have made a huge mess of this world.  It's hard to point with much pride at anything men have done over the past several years.

Men like Jimmy Carter, who are kind, caring and loving, are belittled for their 'confused' thinking.

Women may be no better, but they can't do any worse.

War on terror.  The ultimate oxy-moron by the ultimate moron.  How can anyone that advocates war sanctimoniously talk about 'evil-doers'?  When the logical conclusion of war is the complete eradication of mankind, there is no longer any such thing as a justified war.

Here's another oxymoron.  Holy war.

Or, another... the Holyland...  When occupancy of land becomes so important as to cause repeated deaths, it's no longer 'Holy'.

My answer is to give the Isreali's North Dakota and the Palestinians Kansas.  (No one esle wants either state.)  Then set off a dirty bomb in the Holyland(?) so no one can live there for 100 years.

Much love to you for writing this very intelligent piece on peace.

(I hope this comment stays up long enough for you to read it.

Jill

This story is in serious need of editing.  I tried reading it, but had to give up as the english is so bad that it gave me a headache.

Comment by Dayna on 10/31/02
Whoa.  no way I'm reading that monster.

I suggest you edit it into at least several paragraphs!

Dayna.

Not a bad story but boy does this need editing, badly.

The importance of reader feedback cannot be overstated.   Authors rely on it to improve their future works, and it gives them the incentive to write more stories if they know that their hard work has been appreciated.  I am not saying that comments must all be lauditory.  Authors often appreciate honest, constructive criticism over simple remarks like 'Great story', although simple praise is appreciated also.  There is no limit on how much you can enter in the 'comments' box.   Sentences will automatically word wrap at the end of the line so please do not use your carriage return/enter key except at the end of your paragraphs.
