Dear Id.-Wi., My advice is to get yourself along to a decent-sized book shop and look out a couple of "Self Help" books. There are lots, with different approaches to life, and among them you may well find one that suits you. It sounded to me as though it is not just shyness but a rather pointless and meaningless life that is holding you down. You need a Plan. One book I tried once upon a time was called something like "The Lazy Way to Make Money", and it was not just about money but also gave me serious advice about how to organise your life to achieve all that you wanted from it. I bought this one in America. The Author suggested making a list of EVERYTHING I wanted, material things like money, a house, etc etc., but also personal things like A Higher Degree, A Loving Spouse, Two Children, At least 5 very close friends, and such like. Then every day you had to visualise yourelf actually living with each of your goals achieved. It worked for me, though after a few months I did have to go through my List and cross out all the things I thought I wanted to have but discovered that I did not! If you dont know what you want from life, you will only get what you dont want. Also, it IS possible to overcome shyness. When I was a wee kid, I was so shy that if I saw people approaching I would slip through a hedge and go round a field to avoid them. Now I can stand up in a lecture hall and give a scientific paper or an amusing talk to 500 people without any nervousness. Contrary to what many people think, sex and gender are not really that important and both sexes are very similar in what they want. Due to an inborn condition, I have lived at different times of life as one and as the other and as a betweenie, and frankly, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Another tip, is wherever you go, smile and greet people. Even policemen. (Especially policemen, in fact!) Humans are preprogrammed to respond to a smile and a greeting by doing it back, and then both of you feel better about the day.
