The three put on their swimwear before heading down to the river - the plan was to swim for an hour or so before grabbing some lunch.
It was the first time Rachel had swum in a river, her swimming experience having been gain in regular sized pools - where the water didn't flow of it's own accord.
Still the sun was shining, the water was warm what could go wrong?
The answer turned out to be - a lot!
The biggest difference between rivers and swimming pools is that the bottom isn't particularly smooth.
Add in a fast current and little by way of handholds if things get messy and you have a problem.
Specifically if one of your party catches his foot on something in one of the shallower parts of the river.
"Ahh" Tom yelled.
"Are you OK" Rachel called out with worry
"No...shit my foot's bleeding!"
Rachel noted the banks were a bit steep in this part of the river "Do you know anywhere where it's easier to get out" she asked Tina.
"Keep going - it's gets better from here on in!" was the reply.
Sure enough - Rachel soon found a reachable ledge from where she got herself out - ran back to the cabin and once there morphed into Rick!
Who then ran to the warden's hut!
Before long the warden was hauling Tom out of the river with a pole and working on fixing up Tom's foot.
"Wouldn't be the first time some fool couldn't tell the difference between a river and a bottle bank" was the older man's comment.
Rick was by his side - and not being made to feel welcome by Tom.
Rick decided he needed to clear the air - before lunch so that Tina didn't get involved.
"Look Tom - what the heck was your problem with me coming back with the warden"
"I thought..."
"Well the warden's an old friend of my Dad's. And he doesn't actually know about Rachel."
"Sorry" was Tom's muttered apology.
"Yeah sorry - Rachel will be around after lunch - you might want to apologise to her as well!"
"How come?"
"For freaking her out big time earlier - how far were you planning to to go back then?"
"How far did she want me to go?"
"Tom - she thought you were going to go all the way - she certainly hadn't planned on losing her virginity on this trip!"
"Not my problem if she's irrational" was Tom's reply.
To Rick, both Rachel and Tina had their irrational moments but though frustrating, he was willing to live with them.
"Girls seem to be irrational beings pal" Rick finished "Question is, can you handle that?"
After lunch, Rick actually got the morph urge for the first time in ages - and so Rachel made an appearance by the couch after lunch, where Tom had his bandaged feet up - only to find her boyfriend asleep.
It was wierd seeing him so still for Rachel - so quiet.
The only guy she could see herself with. But who was she to him? A goddess or a plaything?
He stirred. She kissed him.
He asked her what was up.
"Just...looking" was the reply.She wasn't sure what for.
Later on the girls tried their hand at cooking. Armed with a well known chicken bhuna recipe her mother had brought back from a trip to India 20 years previously, it reminded Rachel of her early attempts at make up - only thing was Tina wasn't a very good cook either.
The result - though the girls had a blast producing it - was a badly burnt, very dodgy smelling curry. Tom decided he'd prefer to dial up a pizza - the girls decided to join him.
After the pizza, Rachel felt the urge to morph back into Rick - and Tom seemed to feel the urge to go to bed.
Which left Rick to just crash on the sofa, give Tina a kiss, and flip on some chilled music - Tina's CD, not something Rick had heard before.
"Rachel's worried isn't she?"
"About Tom? Yeah you could say that!"
"So how do you think it's going to play out?"
"I don't know - Tom isn't a guy I've ever been able to fully understand. What is it that makes a guy like him the way he is?"
"So is it over?"
"Not yet - but he's skating on thin ice. It's wierd, you and I, it's like...well..." they kissed. "Like that"
"Yeah" Tina laughed "We're like that"
"Rachel could just stay in Tom's arms forever sometimes - and if it lasts, if we return to this place in a few years time, she'll let him take her, no questions asked."
"Do you want him to take her?"
"That's the thing...I dunno...Tom wants to...devour Rachel! Now!"
"Maybe she ought to run! Now! Boys aren't worth it sometimes."
"Ouch!"
"I said sometimes!" Tina moved in "There are some...very nice...exceptions" Another kiss. "Why can't she find someone better? Someone like you?"
"There are times"Rick admitted "that I wish I could could end Rachel's relationship with Tom and...set her up with one of my crew. A guy I could trust! But..." he finished "...she's not my puppet. And I don't want to fight her."
From there - the CD played on in silence.
It was Rachel that slept. It was Rick that went home. And time passed by - without Tom doing anything crazy. His card was still marked anyway.
Term started again, with everyone moving up a year. A week in and Rick met his friend Greg at the lunchtime canteen.
"Hey Rick" he greeted.
"Hey"
"Can I ask you a favour, well some advice actually."
"Sure."
"OK...you've still got Tina right?"
"Yeah!"
"And that cousin of yours..."
"Rachel"
"Yeah she still around?"
"She's going to be a bit tricky to get rid of" Rick joked.
"OK - so you know girls of our age pretty well"
Rick paused "Who is she?" He asked his friend knowingly.
An attractive redhead joing the canteen queue. "Her" was Greg's reply "And my next question is how?"
