That discussion with his parents had shocked Rick. He hadn't considered getting pregnant, or what the consequences were. It even seemed to shock Rachel, who held off Tom while she thought this more completely out.
Rachel had been honestly surprised that Rick didn't understand that becoming her for the rest of their life was for the best. She was convinced that she would make a much better woman than Rick would a man.
Rick, increasingly concerned, confided in his father that he was getting worried. "Rachel is getting more and more independent," he said one evening. "I don't have any control. She's doing things that I don't want her to do."
His father looked a little worried, "Is she sleeping with Tom?" he asked bluntly.
Rick shook his head, "No, the idea of getting pregnant seemed to surprise her as much as me. I don't think she's ready for that. Is this the same for everyone in the family?"
"No, at least not that I've heard," his father admitted. "Most of the time, the other half is an extension. The same consciousness is in control all the time. I don't rember anyone having trouble like you're having."
"What do I do it Rachel decides to stay, even if I don't want to?" he asked.
His father looked thoughtful. "I'll have to ask some members of the family. I think that if you decide to stay Rick, Rachel has no say, even if she wants to remain. Same thing happens if you can't decide, you stay how you were born. Once you get to your eighteenth birthday, you can decide to stay Rick and Rachel will become a memory."
Rick felt more satisfied after hearing that. He may yet decide to stay as his female alter ego, but he wasn't so ready to give up being male yet.

That evening, Rick felt the urge to change and quickly shed his clothes. Rachel quickly appeared in the mirror. She looked over her nude form for a moment before finding a robe to cover herself, then sat on the edge of the bed. She had to think.
It had been a few weeks since her fourteenth birthday, and her control was getting better. If it wasn't for school, she could already stick around for a couple days.
Rachel was getting worried about Rick. She was growing slowly more convinced that Rick wanted to stay as much as she did. His feelings for Tina were getting stronger. She quickly got dressed and slipped out of the house, going over to Toms. She tapped on his window until he came over. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"We need to talk," she said. After he lifted her inside, she kissed him. "I really, really want to be with you, always," she said to him.
"I want to be with you," he said as he ran his hands over her back. "You already told me that, though."
She nodded, "The time may come where we have to do something about it, though. I don't think Rick is going to allow it."
Tom's hand clenched into a fist, "What do you mean?"
Rachel put her hands to his face, "I love you, but he loves Tina. If nothing changes, when I turn 18, he won't go for it."
"What do we do, then?" he asked.
Rachel sighed. "Either we have to find a way to break them up, with Rick knowing we're trying to do that, or before I turn 18 you have to get me pregnant."
