Baptism and Confirmation

by Jane Hudson

Hi my name is Bea Oliver, I am a postoperative Transsexual, and still continue to work full time, as A Palliative Care Nurse within the N.H.S

I am also a practising Christian. On Sunday the 11 th of January 2004 I was present when Jane Hudson was baptised. At St Peters church by Rev N Williams assisted by Rev G Putnam. On Wednesday 14 th January 2004, I was also present when the Bishop of Taunton confirmed Jane.

In the same church and with the same clergy present ,on both occasions there was a large Congregation present.

Why was I there because ? I was Jane's sponsor.

Jane received her first communion together with myself, and the rest of the congregation on Sunday the 18 th January at Evensong.

There as been a great many things that have transpired for Jane so far this year, but that is for Jane to tell.

Some people " THE SCEPTIC" tells us we are not acceptable in this world

Don't you believe it GET out there and act sensible and don't be afraid.

GOD BLESS Bea Helen Oliver H4379 23-1-2004

Jane story

I must just say to my good friend Bea thank you not only for the foreword but also for all her help over the last couple of years and the last year most of all. So far this year I have been just bowled over. On the 5 Th of this month (January) I started work as Jane that in itself has been one hell of an experience.

I have now been taken in to the church as Jane. This was a wonderful experience. My dearest friend Bea has been there to help me. She was the first Transgender person to go to St Peters and Rev Nick William has been most welcoming to her and now to me. I had to have a sponsor that person was Bea .Bea and my vicar Nick and I had to have meeting' s to prepare me for my Baptism and Confirmation.. These we had just before Evening Service over a number of weeks. I found that this has been a moving moment in my life to be taken on board like this. I was last year so far down that I tried to take my life Bea stopped me. I think this is one of the reasons she brought me to the Church. I have found our lord and I found him not as yahoo thump and hit yobish Mark but as Jane. The Church has welcomed me as Jane .I now feel welcomed as Jane by the Church.

On Sunday the 11 th of January 2004 I went along at 5.00pm to St Peters Worle. Nick Bea and I had a chat about what would happen. Then at 6.30pm the service started . I was so nervous but once the service started I was much less nervous. I was soon at the font and I was asked if I wish to be baptised I said I do . I won't go into all the question that was asked of me in the Baptism .But I was more than happy to answer them the way the lord wanted me to. I was sprinkled with holy water I was baptised in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit .I was now received in to the fellowship of the Church .We said some more prayers then At the end we had a lovely hymn Jesus I have promised.

I must say also there was the Rev G Putman she Gill is a lovely person and at the moment she has some health problems my thoughts and prayers go out to her.

On the Wednesday the 14 th of January 2004 . I went to St Peters at 6.30 pm .Nick and Bea put me through a rehearsal of what would happen. That night I would be confirmed by Bishop of Taunton. The service was at 7.00pm .The Church was packed I was very nervous when I saw how many people was there just for my confirmation as I was the only one that night normally there is 2 3 5 or more. My best friend Bea was there I held her hand she was so happy for me part way through the service she started to cry nearly set me off. Before the service started I had a chat in our vicars office with the Bishop .He asked all about myself and my relationship with our lord. I answered all his questions he also asked me a little about being Transgender I answered as best I could.

The Service started with the Bishop greeting the congregation. Then we had a hymn Stand up stand up for Jesus then we had the Collect an Old Testament Reading Isaiah 11.1-10 another hymn Be still my soul another reading Matthew Ch 28 v16-20 Then there was the Presentation of the Candidate me. I was asked if I was baptized by the Bishop I said yes. I went through all the question asked of a Candidate. Then he sprinked holy water on me .I then knelt before him in front of everybody he lays his hand on me and said Confrim O Lord ,your servant with your Holy Spirt. The he did the commission Then the Peace we had then Hymn Will you come and follow me. .We had Prayers of Intercession's Prayer by the Bishop the Blessing and at the end my favourite hymn Eternal Father. Afterwards there was a lovely spread of food. I just had a lovely chat with the people there my dears. They was so nice to me, my best friend Bea was there having a little sob she is such a great friend my dears friends. Well that was my Confirmation. It show that we can be part of the world as ourselves.
