A Dream of a Dream

by Kailea Noir

Three wishes right?? That's the rule, always three. Three of a kind, three is company; third time is a charm, what is the obsession with three. Like all current cultural aspects it is probably based on some experience in the past, some legend or fable that probably has an inkling of truth in it. Here is my experience with that fable, and as far as I am concerned they only got it a little bit right.

My name is Chris, at the moment, that's a good way to start I think, anyway, I just recently graduated from college in the cold, boring northeast and moved to sunny Virginia Beach for my new job. This was perhaps the greatest thing that had ever happened to me. All my life I have lived with other people, roommates, family, never by myself. Now I have my own two bedroom apartment for me and my newly acquired canine friend. You might ask why this is so important, aside from the obvious. Well quite simply I love to wear women's clothing. I have for a very long time, ever since I first put on a pair of my mothers pantyhose. I have never had any delusions of passing, or going full time. Unfortunately my height and rather muscular build, and the fact that I wear a 50 in the shoulders make it a rather remote chance. I still have fun doing it though.

Needless to say, since I lived near the beach, I spent a lot of time at the beach. One morning as I strolled down the sand walking my dog, he decided to bolt, pulling the lease to its full extension. Then stopped and began digging, this was normal behavior, and I assumed he was chasing a crab, or some imaginary thing again. So I sat and let him have his fun. In a few minutes though, he came trotting over and unceremoniously deposited a small box on my lap. Neat, I thought, more beach junk. However, it looked like it might be cool once cleaned up, so I threw it in my bag, and continued along.

Much later that evening after returning from work, I walked into my glorious apartment, and threw my bag on the couch and sat down. Before I realized it, my dog had once again thrown that dirty box, which he must have dug out of my beach bag, onto my lap, getting my work clothes filthy. I dejectedly got up throwing the box in the kitchen sink and stripped, and put on some pink lounge pants over my black satin panties I had been wearing all day and a white spandex cami. I then returned to the sink to investigate our morning find.

It appeared to be a large clump of dirt/sand just vaguely recognizable as a box of some kind. From what I could tell it appeared wooden, and basically rectangular. Once held under the sink for a few minutes, its details became clearer. The box appeared to be cherry, about three inches long, two inches wide, and about 2 inches deep. It had a fitted top, which was hinged at the back with an extremely intricate silver catch keeping it closed. All over the box were very delicate wood burnings, all sorts of different symbols, from Egyptian Hieroglyphics to Japanese Kanji, to a swastika. Writings and symbols from what looked to be all the major eras in history, from all over the world. Much of it was unrecognizable to me. Intrigued, I cracked the box open, and inside I found a pendant. It was beautiful. On a silver chain, there hung what could be called a loosely Celtic design about an inch in diameter. It didn't show the slightest sign of tarnish, as the box hadn't shown any sign of rot, so I assumed they were fairly new. Probably something purchased from a museum gift shop. Regardless of where it came from I put it on modeled in the mirror for a few minutes, and set the box on my mantle.

The night progressed as normal, lots of TV, ordered in, went to bed, and fell asleep content with my new find hanging around my neck. The next I knew it was time to get up as my alarm clock shouted angrily at me; I awoke, and went to the kitchen to find a woman sitting at my kitchen table. She was short, about 5', blond braided hair, dressed in a white over cut robe, the kind that conceals everything by flowing over the body. Instead of being surprised I found myself sitting down across from her quite normally.

Then she spoke, "Congratulations should be in order I suppose. You are the next in a long line to have found me and now you will receive my services."

For some reason this seemed perfectly natural to me, and I experienced a surge of elation, in hearing her say it.

She continued, "Now you receive three as is the way with everything in the world, no more, no less. I am infinite in power, so fear not my limitations. Also do not make the foolish mistake of trying to release me, for I am, and then I would not be."

This last statement confused me slightly, since for some reason I already knew she was a "genie" to use a crude word, then isn't she a prisoner of the box? I must have stated this out loud because she laughed and said,

"Prisoner, no my dearest, I am the pendant, removing the soul from the body is the equivalent of death. Please let me serve you as then I will continue my journey to serve others fortunate enough to find me."

Well, this seemed easy enough, and I immediately stated my first desire. It was slightly complicated and I asked that she let me explain it thoroughly before acting on it. She smiled at that. What I desired was the ability to completely change my body into whatever I desired, to have the ability to assume any form completely and totally and have control over everything that occurred in my body, but the conditions were that I could always resume my original form, and that the changing process be painless and easily accomplished and controlled. She once more smiled and nodded, and asked that I continue with my others.

My second idea came just as quickly as the first, it was for the ability to read and control people's thoughts. Once again I added the stipulation that this be easily controllable, and that it was also easily turned on and off. She grinned and laughed again saying that I was perhaps one of the most devious she had ever served. I took this as a compliment and once she nodded that she understood my second desire, I had to think long about my third.

THIRD WISH

She smiled warmly at me, and said, "Thank you Chris, you have made me very happy. As a spirit I exist and have existed to serve those who find me. I ask only one thing in return; place me somewhere that probability will dictate who I serve next."

Then my alarm went off…

My immediate sense of Déjà vu pushed all thoughts from my head, as I walked into the kitchen to find it empty. Of course this had happened before; where I dream that I woke up. But never so vividly did I remember it. I sat down, where I would have sat before and began to remember the dream in my head. I remembered the girl, the way she looked, the faint smell of grass about here. I remembered our conversation exactly; the wishes that I made and at that point I remembered the pendant. I looked down and there it was, at least that wasn't a dream, it hung around my neck looking just as enchanting as before. I got up and walked over to the box, about to dismiss it all and put the pendant away. Then I noticed the faint smell of wood burning coming from the box and on one of the sides of the box was written something new. I picked it up, and on the left side was my name, burned neatly into the wood. It was then that I thought, what if….
