Dust on the Mind 6            by: Paul G Jutras

"Alright!" Tim McCoy said as he headed downstairs in a silk shirt, bow tie, pressed slacks and loafers. He looked at the TV guide and saw the big red circle around TV World’s oldies marathon.

"Looking good." Lesley said as she finished putting the purple hair dye in as she headed down in a purple spaghetti strap tank top and mini skirt that went with her black fishnet stockings and open toe four inch heels. Her hand clutched a torn out article on a band concert airing on TV when they both grabbed the remote at the same time.

"Give that to me!" Lesley shouted at her brother. "I’ve been waiting all month for this concert."

"I’ve been waiting all year for this marathon of my favorite black and white sitcoms!" Tim shouted back as he gave an extra tug. The remote slipped out of Lesley grasp and smashed against the wall. "Great, now you smashed the new remote."

"Me!" Lesley shouted back. "You should of let go."

"Never mind." Tim muttered as he went through his parents junk draw. "I think we have another remote in here." Tim pulled out an old dust covered remote and blew on it. As the two sneezed, the remote’s lights came on. With the next sneeze, they blew themselves against the TV screen and beyond.

"What happened?" Tim said, pushing a puffy poodle skirt down as he sat up and stared at a pair of saddle shoes. He turned to see himself in the same outfit he wore before, only now they were in black and white.

"This is just great!" Lesley said in Tim’s body when she notice the 1955 date on the calendar. "How can a remote zap us inside a TV show?"

"Maybe that remote control is the Super remote that dad was once working on in his home lab." Tim said, getting use to speaking with Lesley’s voice. "Since I dropped it before we went through, there’s no way back."

"Sport! Muffin!" There new sitcom mother said in an old fashion plaid dress and heels. "Hurry up or you’ll be late for school."

"Hi ya, Sport!" Mary Sue said as she stood at the end of the walkway. "I’ve been waiting for you to walk me to school."

School was as it always went in the sitcoms. Since Mary Sue insisted on a date with Sport (Lesley), Lesley soon found herself getting dressed in a three piece suit and going over to Mary’s house. Mary looked down from an upstairs window in a bathrobe.

"The door’s unlock and parents are gone." Mary Sue said. "Come in while I get a dress on."

After Lesley sat uncomfortable on the couch, Mary Sue came in dressed in a light color dress. Due to the black and white world, Lesley wasn’t sure of the true color any more than her brother knew what color nail polish and lipstick he was putting on his sister body.

"Hi Sport." The man of the house said as they passed each other in the doorway.

"Hi dad." Lesley said as the mother told her husband what their son was up to going steady. She had gotten it straight from Tim, their new daughter.

"Miss Offen," The father said, showing up at Mary Sue house with the mother. "We’re Sports parents and we’re consider about your desire on him."

"I think our friendship has gone out of hand." Mary said. "It won’t be easy to tell the truth, but he needs to know I don’t think of him in that much of a romantic way."

"I see." The dad said with some relief. "That some relief off my mind. I’m glad we stopped by to talk to you before Sport came by to talk to you."

A door bell rang and the parents looked at one another. "Is there another way out?"

"Through the kitchen." Mary Sue said as she waited until they were out of sight before opening the door and letting Sport in. Lesley couldn’t understand her new male emotions as she reached over to kiss Mary and was brushed away.

"Please, go." Mary said not ready to go with just one person and possible ruin both their lives at this time. "I’d rather remember you as you are."

With a feeling of emptiness, Lesley went home where her family waited. Tim and told Lesley that he was getting the same feelings toward cute guys as she had toward girls. That as long as their trapped in reruns they’d be plenty of time for romance and family in their lives.

It was true as several episodes later, Tim found himself going with a really handsome guy. Even though they never had sex (since that wasn’t seen on old time shows), Tim found that he had one day gotten pregnant. He put the blame on I Love Lucy for starting the trend of showing such things on TV. He was only glad that while her new husband since the wedding would be in the waiting room, he’d be having a peaceful delivery. Was glad that delivery room weren’t part of black and white shows.

Tim even loved being maid of honor when his sister got her own wedding to a lovely lady that she now support in a little hardware store. Tim and Lesley soon got so involved with their own TV families, they eventually forgot about their real families and their real lives. They’d never know if there real families were missing them or not. There real families would never know what happened to their kids. Even if they found the remote, it is doubtful they’d guess there kids were living with families of there own in TV World.

THE END
