Faye in Wonderland                   by: Faye Beattie

It had been three weeks since Stuart became Faye but already you could see the difference. No longer was she rough and fight and she was always courteous. Every day she would wake up, Put on a dress, some tights, her Mary Janes and then go downstairs to help her mother make breakfast. Afterwards she would go and play with her Barbie dolls or go and play with a little girl called Zoe who lived down the street. She went to a private scool on the outskirts of Mudchester. It was an all girl school and Faye really wanted to go.

One day while Faye was playing with Zoe in her room the phone rang.

"I’ll get it!" Faye shouted to her mother. "Hello!"

"Hi Faye. It’s Juliet here. Just to remind you of my fancy dress party on Saturday. Are you still coming as Alice in Wonderland?"

"Yes Juliet. I can’t wait it’s the first time the whole family are going to see me as a girl. It’s going to be great. Thank you for the bridesmaid dress, by the way, it is beautiful."

"Well you might be wearing it soon."

"What do you mean?"

"Erm...Oh nothing. Anyway see you on Saturday don’t be late, bye."

"Bye."

Zoe had heard the whole conversation. What did she mean the first time seeing her as a girl? Well she didn’t know but she was darn well going to find out!

Faye walked into her room to find Zoe going through a photo album. They were all photos of when Faye was a boy.

"Who’s the boy in all these photos, Faye?" Asked Zoe.

"Oh that’s my cousin, Stuart."

"He doesn’t half look like you. Is he going to be there on Saturday." Oh yeah, she had forgotten Zoe was going with her on Saturday. She was going as the Mad Hatter.

"Erm... no. He lives too far away."

"You’ve got a lot of photos of him. And I’ve seen some around the house. I haven’t seen any of your other cousins, though."

"Zoe can you keep a secret?"

"Yeah, sure. We’re best friends aren’t we?"

"Please don’t freak out on me but a few weeks ago, well just before I met you in fact, I...er....wasn’t Faye. I was Stuart."

"I don’t understand. How could you be two peo.....Oh! You’re a BOY!"

"No, I’m a girl with a boy’s body. You see, ever since I was young I wanted to be a girl. I dreamt of wearing little dresses and petticoats and then on my birthday my dream came true. My parents got rid of all my boy clothes and bought me dresses and petticoats and tights and shoes and everything I need to be the girl I want to be. I hope you understand."

"I understand and I think its wonderful that a boy would want to be a girl. Girls have so much more fun and wear nicer clothes. I don’t blame you for wanting to be a girl. I feel so lucky to be one and so should you. Just one question. School starts next week. Are you really going like that?"

"That’s a point. I’ll ask Mummy later. Thanks Zoe. You are the best friend a girl could have."

"I have to go or Mummy will be worried. I’ll see you tomorrow."

After dinner, Faye started talking to her mother.

"Mummy. What’s happening about school?"

"You’re going to Mudchester Girl’s Grammar with Zoe, dear. We have to go for your uniform on Sunday. I was going to keep it as a surprise but as you asked you might as well know!"

"That’s great Mummy but they have swimming lessons there. How am I going to do those?"

"That’s my little secret, dear. You’ll find out before you go."

And with that the conversation was over and Faye went upstairs to play with her doll’s house.

Saturday soon came along and Faye was up at the crack of dawn so she could put on her dress. First the panties with the pink bow on the front, and then the pale blue dress with hundres of ruffles and petticoats then the sheer white, very soft tights and lastly the Mary Janes.. She even put in the white hairband. Faye’s hair was naturally blond so she didn’t need a wig and she had always kept it shoulder length ever since she was young. She was so excited to show it off that she ran downstairs to her mother.

"Mummy. What do you think?" she asked and then did a little twirl and a curtsey.

"You look so sweet and innocent. Stuart could never look like that. You are the most beautiful girl in the world. Just like Alice in Wonderland. But, don’t you think it’s a little early to be wearing it?"

"I wanted to get used to it. It’s so wonderfully comfortable I always want to wear it!"

"Well I don’t know about that but you can certainly wear it sometimes. Why don’t you go through to the living room while I make some breakfast."

By the time her mother went into the living room, Faye was sitting perfectly as a little girl on the sofa watching Alice in Wonderland on the video.

"Faye, dear. You only watched that yesterday!"

"I know mummy but I really want to get into character."

It was 1:00 by the time Zoe arrived. Faye opened the door to see a young girl dressed in a suit with a purple tie, green shirt and an extremely large top hat.

"Zoe you look wonderful. I take it their not your teeth."

"No there false but enough about me look at you. You’re GORGEOUS!"

"Why...er...thank you."

"You look just like Alice in Wonderland. Nobody would ever know you were a b....I mean, well, you know."

"I know. I would never have guessed a month ago I would be going to Juliet’s party as a girl!"

"Are you ready to go, dear?" Her mother asked as she came down the stairs dressed as Mortichia Adams.

"Yes Mummy. You look wonderful." She was dressed in a long velvet, black dress. It was so long you couldn’t see her feet. But underneath she had black, silk tights and poity, black stilettos on.

They got in the car. Alice had been out as a girl many a time and wasn’t scared of what people thought anymore. She had never been looked at funny and nobody ever called her names. All they saw was a pretty young girl in a beautiful dress.

Her father got in the car dressed as Gomez Adams.

"Oh and who is this beautiful girl sitting in the back of my car? Oh it’s Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter. I’m sorry you couldn’t have been here a minute ago my daughter would have loved to have met you."

It was past 2:00 by the time they got to Juliet’s house. They got out the car and walked up the driveway. Faye’s Mother rang the doorbell. For a split moment Faye thought everyrthing was alright but by the time Juliet’s mother, Jane had opened the door she was hiding behind the car hoping none of her family would see her.

"Hello Jean. Hi Roger. Where’s Faye? All I can see is this funny looking man and a pretty young girl hiding behind your car."

"Faye come on. Everyone knows about you...erm...I mean everyone knows your shy." Said her father.

"It’s O.K. Mr. Beattie. I know Faye used to be Stuart." Said Zoe, "She told me the other day and I’m fine with it."

"Oh, well, that’s alright then. Now stop being shy and get over here."

With that Faye slowly went over to her parents for Jane to see her.

"Wow. You are adorable. You and Juliet are going to get along great. Hey, you’re going to Mudchester girls school aren’t you. Juliet goes there aswell. If you need to talk to anyone just go to her."

"Thank you Aunty." Said Faye and curtseyed.

"Wow you have taught her well.!" Jane said.

"We haven’t taught her anything." Her mother answered. "She was just like this the minute she put on a dress and from that moment we knew we had made the right decision."

They went inside. They all stood outside the room.

"Are you ready?" Jane asked Faye.

"I think so." And with that Jane opened the door and announced,

"Everybody I would like to introduce my new, beautiful niece Faye and family."

She walked through the door to see everyone staring at her with surprise. Juliet ran over to her.

"Faye you look...well I mean....welll...I thought you would look like a boy in a dress!"

"Happy Birthday, Juliet."

Juliet really liked the presents she got. She had grown up and didn’t wear little dresses anymore but did wear mini-skirts and skinny tops. Maybe in a few years i’ll be wearing them, thought Faye.

"Thank you everybody for such wonderful gifts but the best gift is to see Faye. She is the best cousin anyone could ask for and much nicer than Stuart."

They ate, they drank, they played musical chairs and by 5:00 most people had left. Juliet closed the doors to the last guests and turned to Faye.

"Hey. I have loads of clothes upstairs I have grown out of. I’m sure they would fit you. Why don’t you and Zoe come upstairs and we can have a little fashion show."

"That’s sounds great!"

They went upstairs and into Juliets room. She started rummaging around in the bottom of her wardrobe.

"Just wait a minute. There’s a suitcase here somewhere...ah....here it is!" She opened it up. Inside were some dresses, some like the ones Faye wore and some that were like summer dresses that just float around your body like they weren’t even there. There was also three skirts, some natural coloured tights (like the ones Faye’s mother wears) and some cycling shorts. Faye was getting really excited at the treat she was about to have.

"We’ll wait outside, Faye, while you put them on and after each thing come out and show us. Oh, I nearly forgot the shoes." She started looking at the bottom of her wardrobe again and brought out what looked like a pair of Mary Janes but with a 2 and a half inch heel. Faye was relly excited now and couldn’t wait to start. The other GIRLS, yes it is sounding better, went outside.

The first thing she decided to put on was on of the skirts. She decided on the smallest one which was just above the knee. It was black with a little flower design going up one side. She put on a plain white top Juliet had told her to wear and then put the skirt on. It was a strange feeling at first as she had never put on something as small as this but after the terrific sensation going through her body she stepped outside.

"Oh, that really suits you, Faye." Said Zoe.

"I agree. You look incredible!" Said Juliet."But I think it would look better with the tights and the shoes on." Faye walked back inside. She sat down on the bed. She knew how to put on her thick, white tights but she had never put on anything like this. She rolled up one leg and put her foot in. As the lycra slided up her leg she realised they had a bit of a shimmer in them and the light now bounced off her leg. After putting her other leg in she just rubbed her hand along her leg. It felt so smooth and soft and it actually looked like her leg. Then came the shoes. She put her right foot in first. She wasn’t used to her legs being elevated but she soon got used to it. Once she had finished she looked at herself in the mirror. I’m a TEENAGER, she thought. She stumbled out the door and looked Juliet straight in the eye. She had never done that before but the heels made them the same height.

"Wow!" Both of them said in unison. They went downstairs to show Faye’s parents. She had to be careful going down the stairs and with walking she had to sway her hips more.

"Well. What do you think?" Her parents were gobsmaked.

"Oh my god! My baby has grown up."

"I think I look great but i feel more comfortable in the other dresses. You know the ones that my age group wear. A little velvet dress with white tights and Mary Janes but maybe in a few years time or for a party at school I might wear this."

She went upstairs and changed. When she was walking back down the stairs in her Alice dress she just thought how lucky she was to be able to wear anything she wants and look like a convincing girl.

As they were saying goodbye she hugged Juliet.

"Thanks for the wonderful clothes. I’ll put them in my wardrobe. Maybe we could go out sometime with me dressed up. We could pretend to be sisters."

"Well the school will have a disco in a couple of weeks time. I’ll call you and arrange things."

And that was that. Faye and Zoe skipped back to the car and back home the went.

"Bye Zoe I’ll see you on Tuesday at the start of school. We can walk together."

"O.K. You looked fantastic by the way. Like a minature version of Britney Spears."

"Oh, I wouldn’t go that far. Anyway I’ll see you on Tuesday."

That night as Faye was tucked up in bed with her long, silk nightie on she just dreamt about the wonderful day as Alice and how she would remember it forever.

The End
