Girls of the Summer

by Lor Hamilton

Chapter 3

Erin just finished cleaning up the kitchen for the first time in a long time. Over the course of three days his Mom and his Sister taught him the finer points of how to be a proper teen girl. He took his apron off and hung it up, he was just about to go on a date with Rave. At the time he had tight denim skirt on and sandals with a three inch heal on them. He was also wearing a tight tube top and had his hair in a single ponytail with a blue ribbon. His mom had hired a person to do all of Erin’s old chores, the worse part was that he was working for 200 dollars a week and Room and Board. On top of that he was gay so Erin’s mother didn’t think it would matter to tell him Erin’s secret. With Erin’s permission of course and as far as Erin could tell it had been okay.

Erin walked over to the kitchen table crossed his legs and picked up an issue of Gamers Weekly. His mother had allowed it. After reading half an article the doorbell rang and Erin hurried over open it.

"Hi Erin," it was Rave. He gave Erin a quick kiss on the lips.

"Want to come in," he took Rave by the hand and led him into the living room. "Let me get my purse and we can go."

Erin wasn’t half way out the living room when the phone started ringing. He ran girlishly to his clear pink phone which he mother got him to match his room. "Hello."

It was his best friend Patrick. "Can I speak with Aaron?"

"Sure," said Erin.

"Hold on," he told Rave.

He ran up the stairs went into his room and partially closed the door. "Hello," he said in his normal voice.

"Aaron man what has happened to you. I got the email but man it’s like you’re completely gone."

"Sort of, but you don’t suppose to be calling me I am grounded."

"I know, but I knew that your mom was gone so I called."

"My sister is still here," Erin checked out the door to see if Rave was coming up.

"Sorry, I was just telling you that the gang decided on going to Camp Morris."

"What," Erin nearly went nuts.

"I’m sorry, I guess we won’t see each other for the rest of the summer."

"It’s okay, just tell me what it was like."

"Okay Bro hang in there."

"I will."

"See Ya."

Brad pressed off on the phone then put it on the base and picked up his purse. He walked back out in the hallway but then…

"Erin, I think that is strike two."

Erin turned to Stephanie. "I am so sorry,
"Too late," said Stephanie.

"No, I had to take the call."

"To bad," said Stephanie. "But don’t forget about your date."

Erin turned a walked back down the steps, and back into the living room.

"Erin can I tell you something," asked Rave. He stood up and walked to her. "Your mom is…"

"Your psychiatrist," Erin finished. "I know."

"Are you sure you don’t care."

Erin glanced up the steps to see Stephanie watching. He then through his arms around Rave’s neck and kissed him deeply.

"I’ll take that as a yes," said Rave.

They both walked out the door and into the sunlight.

"Erin can I speak with you," it was Bryan the gardener.

Erin walked girlishly to the grass, which he had forbidden when he was taking care of the outside.

"Yes Bryan."

Umm Bryan stood up. He was much taller than Erin, about the same size as Benny. He had a pair of Denim pants and casual shirt on under his thick gardening apron. "I thought you told me you weren’t gay."

"I’m not Bryan, I have to do this."

"Oh yeah, the whole be a girl thing. Well if you have any problems just call me. I would hug you but, I’m all dirty."

"I do have to act like a girl," said Erin. "Never know when somebody’s watching."

"Really?"

"Yeah I just got strike two."

"That’s bad, I wish I could hug you on that."

"Just…" Erin pointed to his cheek.

"Kool," said Bryan kissing Erin on the cheek.

Erin walked back to the sidewalk where Rave was waiting took hold of his hand and started back down the street again.

"What was that all about," asked Rave.

"Nothing," smiled Erin.

"So does he live with you?"

"Yes."

They walked further down the street, hand in hand until they reached the movies. It was jam packed and the movie they wanted to see was sold out twice by the time they got there. So they decided to just leave and they walked to the mall and had coffee and talked in a small café.

"I couldn’t beat that game," said Rave. "It’s been 5 years and I never got past the last level with the Breed."

"No way," said Erin. "They were the easiest, have you tried lately."

"No, maybe I need you to help me out."

"I could."

Rave smiled. "You’re not like all the other girls."

"He’s not a girl you dope."

"You are like the girl for me. I mean you’re really pretty, but you also have different styles to you. You dress nice, but you like video games."

"And you like that," Erin smiled. "Oh sorry I couldn’t race you in the motorcycle game, my skirt."

"It’s okay," said Rave. "I had…"

"Hey Rave."

It was Benny and another girl with pink and blond hair. "I see you’re still dating Erin."

"Key word Date," said Rave.

"We won’t be long," Benny smiled. "Hi Erin, how are you doing."

"I was doing just fine," Erin said.

"Joke I see," Benny held up his hands. "Anyway, I’m going out with Stephanie later on tonight, as a matter of fact I have to go get ready."

"What you’re leaving me here," said the girl.

"Yeah," said Benny getting up from his chair and walking away. "See ya Toni, See ya Rave, See you ERIN."

"Rave put his hand on his head. "What a dork."

"Yeah really," said Toni. "What are you drinking," she picked up Raves cup. "This is good."

"Toni please."

"No way, I want to meet the new girl. Oh no offense but let’s get you a Rave makeover."

Erin looked up. "A what?"

"It’s what all of Rave’s girlfriends had," said Toni. "He hasn’t told you about it."

"No he hasn’t," Erin looked at Rave who looked really embarrassed.

"Do you want to try it out?"

"You know what I think I will," said Erin. "Just point to where I need to go.

"Oh the place is right here in the mall," Toni took Erin by the hand and led him out the café with Rave following. "You’re going to love you’re new look, and I’ve got just the one for you." Toni talked like this all the way until they reached a store called KAOS.

"Hey Rave, Hey Toni, Hey…friend," a lady behind a counter greeted them as they came in.

"This is Erin," Rave introduced her to the lady whose name was Bre.

"You want the Rave makeover, huh," Bre talked in a scrappy voice. "Sit her down in the chair, I’ll do this one for free."

After about two hours, Erin looked in the mirror and didn’t even recognize himself…herself…whatever. His hair had been cut to shoulder length except for two streaks at the front which went down the side of his face, and every other streak was pink. Along with his pink eye shadow and lip gloss he looked like a whole new girl.

"I told you you’ll like it," Toni said.

"Yeah," said Bre. "It’s nice."

"Where’s Rave," asked Erin.

Toni pointed to a waiting bench where Rave had curled up on and gone to sleep.

Erin walked over to him, and shook him.

"Wha, Wha, What," he looked up at Erin. "I love it." He stood up automatically, and stared into his eyes. "You look beautiful, not that you didn’t look beautiful, but you’re gorgeous."

"Yeah, yeah," said Bre.

"Thank you," said Erin as he and Rave walked out hand and hand.

"I guess I’ll walk you home."

"I would like that."

The three of them walked home, and talked along the way. It just so happen Erin nearly had more in common with Toni then he did with Rave.

Toni waited at the end of sidewalk while Rave walked Erin to the door. "I’ll see you soon, I have to hurry and leave, I don’t want the psychiatrist talking to me."

"Okay," smiled Erin.

Rave gave her a kiss on the cheek and saw that Erin was safely in the house.

Erin looked out the window to make sure Toni and Erin were completely gone before turning around and saying. "Glad that’s over."

"Femininity, Femininity."

Erin looked over to Bryan who was reading as issue of Cosmo at the table.

"I like your hair," he said.

"What are you doing," Erin walked over to sit down.

"Just reading," he said. "How did the date go?"

"If I was a girl...The date went great," Erin said. "We had fun, we didn’t get to see the movie but we did do a lot of neat stuff."

Bryan laughed. "Really how did it go?"

"I just told you."

"Oh I get it, you think your mother and sister asked me to tell if you went out your limit."

Erin nodded. "So the date went great."

"Do you think he’s cute?"

"He’s hot," said Erin.

"Really?"

"Damn."

Erin turned to see his sister stand up from behind the kitchen island.

"I really thought he was going to lose it." Stephanie walked from behind the counter and sat at the table."

"I can’t believe you," Erin almost yelled.

"So did you kiss," asked Stephanie.

"Yeah," Bryan cut in. "Right before they left."

"You knew," Erin said. "I saw you on the steps."

"I’m talking about after."

Bryan put down his magazine and looked at Erin.

"Yeah."

"She’s blushing," said Bryan.

Stephanie giggled.

Erin looked even more embarrassed.

"How about you Stephanie," started Erin. "How’d your big date with Benny go."

"Perfect," said Stephanie. "We went to see Girls of the Summer again, this time we watched it and shared a drink and popcorn. And when he dropped me off, we made out for a long time."

"To long if you ask me," said Bryan.

"Were you watching me," asked Stephanie.

"I heard somebody at the door."

This time Erin giggled which made Stephanie to giggle.

"Oh look it’s my two favorite girls, having fun. Erin what did you do to your hair."

"I just…"

"I like it," said there mother.

"Hi, Miss Niles," said Bryan. "I’ve ordered pizza my treat."

"Thank you," Bryan. "It’s so good to have a man around the house, she gave him a kiss on the cheek."

Bryan blushed and caused Erin and Stephanie to giggle.

"Oh yeah, Erin," Miss Niles started. "You have two days to find two things social to do, if not you hit strike three and you will still have to find the social things."

"Do I have to."

"Yes," said there mother.

"If you need help just call me."

"Okay," Erin said.
