Halloween Hi-Jinx

School had been in session for a few weeks at Sabrina’s School For Girls. Young eight year old Pam; formerly known as Pat, walked out giggling with some of his classmates. Like all of his classmates, his uniform included a white shirt with the school logo over the heart, a red & black checkered skirt, white frilly ankle socks and a pair of Mary Jane shoes.

Pam’s father had died when he was three years old. Before he could learn what it meant to be a boy, his mother legally changed his name and raised him as the girl she always wanted. Both of them could be happier as Pam looked forward to becoming old enough to start on hormones and become as lovely a woman as his mother.

"Ready to go," Jane Ronin asked. She miled as she stood in a salmon Hickory top and matching silhouette slimmer pleated skirt and opened toed heels.

"Ready mom." Pam smiled as he climbed into the passenger seat and did his seat belt. After his mom shut Pam’s door, she walked around to the driver’s side and did the same. Pam glanced down at the pink polish on his mother toes as she kicked off her heels. Back when his mother was in driver’s ed the teacher told the girl drivers how hard driving in heels were and asked for them to either wear flats or remove their shoes while practicing. The habit just stuck with her.

"Mom, Wilson; from the public school down the street, invited some of us girls to his party this Halloween." Pam asked with a hopeful smile. "Will you take me?"

"I don’t see why not." Jane smiled. "I haven’t dressed up since the first year I took you trick or treating."

As the traffic light turned from red to green, they turned the corner and head down the street while keeping an eye on the billboard posted a mile before the mall containing the town’s local costume shop.

The cool fall breeze blew up both Jane and Pam’s skirts as they slipped out of the car and walked to the clicking sound of their shoes on the pave parking lot to the front door. The bell of the store’s front door was soothing as they passed a mad scientist and creature team costume set.

"What do you want to be this year?" Jane said as she looked at a tight white sweater and pink poodle skirt costume. "Fashion one day, Halloween costume the next."

"I don’t know?" Pam said as he looked at animal and monster costumes along the walls and on the racks. He picked up a clown wig and tried it on. "So much to choose from."

"May I help you?" Asked a young, blonde woman wearing a mock turtleneck with fly front jeans and soft spots Cora shoes.

"I’m taking my daughter to a party and need a costume for myself as well." Jane said as the blonde woman took a couple of quick measurements.

"I think I know just the thing." The woman smiled as she took the two toward the dressing room.

"I love this." Pam said as he stood in a frilly pink tutu and tights. Sitting down, he put on his toe shoes and did a classic spin. "Maybe mom will let me take lessons for real when she sees how good I looked like this."

"Whoa!" His mother cried as the sound of the thump got his attention. "Mom, are you alright?"

"Fine." His mom said as she laid face down in a pink bikini top and matching mermaid tail. "Though I can’t walk with this tail. Not to mention that it’s rough against my skin."

"Makes you feel like you have unshaven cactus, doesn’t it." The employee said as she and Pam helped Jane to a seat. "I suggest you wear a pair of pantyhose without panties for best comfort against the material without getting too hot."

As Pam went back to the dressing room to change, the store employee helped Jane out of the mermaid tail. She was just glad that there was no other shoppers to see her return to the dressing room in only the costume top and her panties.

Returning to the car, Jane smiled down at her daughter. "You looked real nice in that tutu. Do you think you’d like to take ballet?"

"Yes, mom." Pam said, blushing.

When they got home Jane took a shower and changed into a dress with a wrap around seascape design along with white sandals that hand an inch heel. Pam finished with his bubble bath and was soon ready to go out to dinner in a red puffy shoulder dress with blue and yellow polka dots, light brown pantyhose and wooden clogs. His mother always loved him in the outfit. Though she didn’t care for him wearing it on weekends to play on the school playground.

The two had a lovely dinner out. Jane had taught her child how to properly sit and eat like a young lady. Pam had enjoyed both her salad and her clams with French fries. Before dessert came; however, Pam had to use the ladies room. "Excuse me while I powder my nose," he said as he headed for the girls room in his stocking feet. He loved the freedom that dresses gave him and couldn’t image ever wearing a restricting suit and tie. He never understood why it was okay for girls to walk about in a public place in stocking feet but not boys.

After Pam was done in the bathroom and washed his hands, he smoothed out his nylon covered legs. He was particular to admire his ankle bracelet through the stocking before returning to the table. After dessert they went to the ballet class in the mall and signed Pam up for Saturday lessons.

Pam didn’t mind getting up early on Saturday. At least not while his mom didn’t mind curling his hair while he painted his finger nails a nice shade of pink that match his mom’s toes and waited for them to dry. "You look lovely, dear." Jane said with a pecking kiss on the cheek.

When Pam got the class she was surprise to see so many of her friends from school were already taking ballet. Together with Crystal, Joan, Janet, Sandra and Lesley, they formed a regular rainbow in their outfits.

"Such a nice turn out today." Pheobe, the teacher said with a smile. "I plan to work you hard so that you can perform in the annual Christmas benefit contest." (which might appear in a Christmas story later on.)

"Do you like ballet?" Jane asked Pam after class.

"Yes," he answered. "It’s even harder on the toes than learning to walk in heels. I’m happier doing this than being part of my school’s soccer team last year and this year I’m with my friends."

Pam had lots of fun with his friends both in ballet class and in school. Before he knew it, the night of the party had arrived. Because of Jane’s fish tail, she had to ride in the back seat while her younger sister drove them to the party. Pam thought his aunt looked cute with her hair done up in a pony tale and wearing a cheerleader outfit of tan and brown colors from her old school. It wasn’t as bright or pretty as some outfits but still looked nice on her at her current age.

Aunt Amy and Pam helped her mother into Wilson’s school gym and up onto the bleaches. "You shouldn’t have to worry about falling over here." Pam said noticing that two other mothers had dress as mermaids. Crystal’s mother’s costume made her a green mermaid while Janet’s mother was a blue mermaid. Pam also notice a girl about his age wearing a yellow bikini with a cardboard painted to look like a golden mermaid. "You got plenty of company to talk to while I get you some punch.

"Nice of the school to let me use the gym for my party." Wilson smiled in his dashing masked swordsman costume. Pam’s heart pounded a bit faster as Wilson took his hand and asked for a dance.

Janet giggled in her Peter Pan costume at the sight of the two until she was joined by her friends. Joan and Crystal looked sweet as fairy tale Princesses, while Sandra’s nylon feet almost slipped on the gym floor as she left her Tarzan date and walked over in her Jane outfit.

"They do make a cute couple." Lesley took a sip of punch as she got her red clown costume nose honked by Janet.

"Stop clowning around." Janet said as Sandra notice the green polish on Janet’s nails. She felt jealously that she hadn’t thought of that.

"You’re always thinking ahead." Sandra sighed. "This is the one time during the school year we can get away with a nail color that isn’t red or pink."

"Thanks, Girlfriend." Janet giggled. "But what’s with the nylons?"

"My Tarzan, John has a fetish for seeing my legs and feet in nylons." Sandra laughed. "Besides, it’d be a bit too cold in here without them."

"Come on Sandra." John said as he took her by the arm. "They’re bobbing for candy corn and starting the spook house."

"Not the old meatball for eyeballs bit." Janet sighed. "So… huh?"

"Miss Pheobe ?" Crystal asked as they see among the ring and dart toss booths for Halloween prizes were their ballet teacher in a dunk tank wearing a brown turtle neck sweater and a full length Autumn print skirt. "Shouldn’t you be wearing a bathing suit?"

"The person hired to do this called in sick just before the party started. Being the only parents here not in the costume contest, I was asked to take her place." Miss Pheobe replied. "Besides, the only reason Wilson got such a cool party set up in the gym is that the money the booths make go to charity."

The party went till late in the evening. The kids got to go trick or treat at all the booths after the costume contest. Pam didn’t win any prizes, but he didn’t care because he enjoyed himself so much.

Time went on and Jane continued to teacher her child about all the wonders of woman hood like shaving his legs when he was old enough. His 13th birthday present was starting on hormone replacements and his 16th birthday gift was her chipping in with his job money for the operation to make a real girl out of him.

Eventually Pam married Wilson, even though he never knew or cared that she wasn’t born female. Since Pam couldn’t have kids of their own, they choose to adopt both a boy and a girl. As the kids grew and Pam watched her son and daughter playing dolls together, she wondered who they’d take after when they grew up. They truly ended up living happily ever after.

THE END

Writer’s note: I have an idea for a story where Pam’s kids ask her to tell them a story from when their mother was a kid. I thought I’d make the Christmas ballet play a Christmas story later on this year.
