Jeannie's First Summer
by: Janis Elizabeth

Prologue

That first weekend had been absolutely wonderful. I had finally gotten my nerve up and admitted to my sister Sharon that I had worn some of her lingerie and had now wanted to experience the feeling of being dressed completely as a girl. Fearing a turndown at best and laughter and ridicule at the worst, I was both shocked and pleased when she did neither. Instead she enabled me to fulfill my dream and helped me dress. Not only that, I was able to be Sharon's little sister Jeannie from Friday night to Sunday. It had been our intention to have me revert to being Gene, my normal self, before Mom returned home from her women's religious retreat. However, we all know about the best laid plans of mice and men.

When we returned from church, with me still dressed as Jeannie, we found Mom sitting in the living room reading. Naturally, we were quite shocked by this. What was even more shocking was Mom's reaction after she heard our explanation for me wearing a dress. She had a complete and total acceptance of her new daughter Jeannie. She was not upset or angry to find that I was wearing a dress and underneath it, all of the appropriate lingerie. Mom even asked if she could see me in some of Sharon's clothes that I had worn earlier in the weekend.

We had gone out to eat as a mother with her two teenaged daughters. I really enjoyed our time together and Mom seemed pleased with us. Upon our return home, I was able to relive the fashion show from the preceding day, modeling several of my sister's outfits including her prom gown and her bridesmaid's dress. I even wore both of my new acquisitions, the gold satin cocktail dress and the poodle skirt and top. Mom smiled and complimented me as I tried on one lovely thing after another.

Little did I realize that this was the beginning of some very exciting times for me as Jeannie.

Chapter 1

After my spectacular weekend and Mom's subsequent discovery of my femme persona, I found that things had definitely changed. To my mind, they had definitely changed for the better. I was allowed to be Jeannie in the evenings, after school, and on weekends. My wardrobe began to grow as my sister took some her clothes that she no longer wore and gave them to me. It is not as if they were secondhand or hand-me-down, mind you. They were practically new outfits that Sharon had worn once or twice and then just left hanging in her closet.

Mom had gotten me some lingerie and sleepwear, in satin naturally, so that I wouldn't have to borrow my sister's things. Mom also showed me how to take care of my delicate underthings by washing them by hand with mild soap and lukewarm water and then hanging them up over the towel rack in the bathroom to dry. Each of us tried to do our lingerie on different days so that our washed delicates were not bunched together drying over the towel rack or shower bar.

Mom and Sharon both went to great lengths to explain the basics of girlhood, thus enabling me to enjoy my girlish state even more. They showed me everything from properly applying makeup to the correct way to walk and sit while wearing a skirt or dress, to doing my hair. However, I still had not gotten used to sleeping with curlers in my hair, even though each time I slept in them was more enjoyable than before.

It had been several weeks since I had brought Jeannie into the open. I had let my hair grow so that I could style it easier. With school closing for the summer, I had thought about getting a summer job. However, I was completely surprised when Mom told me that Jeannie could work at the community pool this summer as a lifeguard.

The pool manager, Elaine Rogers, had been Mom's friend for years and even remembered when Sharon and I were little. She also knew that I had taken and passed the necessary courses to become a senior lifeguard. Elaine told Mom that they were short of qualified lifeguards and asked if I would be interested in the job. Rather than answer positively for me and then have Elaine surprised later; Mom proceeded to take her into her confidence. She told Elaine about how I had recently become Jeannie, her part-time daughter, and how much I was enjoying my newly discovered femininity. Mom then asked if Jeannie could fill the lifeguard position. After some thought, Elaine said that she could appreciate a young man who could be in touch with his feminine side. All things considered, she would be pleased to have Jeannie serve as a lifeguard. Her only concern was that Jeannie both look and act feminine. Mom assured her that I was very feminine indeed. Once Mom came home and told me about my summer job, I was surprised and speechless to say the least.

When I first heard about the job for Jeannie, I was overjoyed. But as the cold light of reality shone on me, I realized that I didn't have an appropriate bathing suit for Jeannie to wear. Mom assured me that we should still be able to find something suitable for me at the mall. As I was already dressed appropriately in an A-line green cotton skirt, a white short sleeve blouse, nylon knee-highs and flats, I was all ready to go shopping. After picking up my purse, I headed for the car with Mom.

Mom took me to the big department store and we headed straight for the women's department. Even though it was late in the season, if June is considered late in the season for summer apparel, the store still had a good selection of one piece and two piece swimsuits. Mom and I had already talked it over and we both felt that a nice one-piece swimsuit would be more appropriate for me. We looked through the array of different styles of swimsuits in my size. At last, we selected three different swimsuits and headed to the fitting room to try them on.

All three suits had a built-in padded bra to give me some shape, so I would not have to worry about using my breast forms each day. Other than color, the basic difference among the three was the way the back was designed. The green one had a scooped back, the red one had a higher back that came to just below my shoulder blades and the blue one had a mesh fabric over the back. Each fit me well, but I had to be extremely mindful to make sure that I was properly tucked in at all times to present a feminine front. Mom also suggested that a snug fitting panty-brief could also be of some help to me. I loved how I looked in each of the swimsuits.

In addition to the swimsuits and the panty briefs, Mom picked up two pair of pink satin shorts that I could easily slip over my suits and a few feminine tees. Out in the mall, we stopped at the shoe store and picked up two pair of sandals. I loved looking down and seeing my painted toenails when I wore them. When we were about to leave the mall, Mom spotted a kiosk in the aisle that sold all types of hats. Rather than have me wear a baseball-style cap, Mom suggested that I get something different. After looking over the selection, I chose a straw hat with an upturned brim. Mom told me that I looked cute wearing it. I now had my attire to go to and from the pool and work as a lifeguard.

Chapter 2

The end of June arrived more quickly than I realized. I had been working every day at the pool. I would put on my panty brief and then one of my bathing suits. I would use the tees and the shorts as my suit cover while traveling back and forth to the pool. The first day I reported to work, Elaine met me as I came in. After carefully looking me over from head to toe, she smiled and told me how nice I looked.

I would sit in one of the three lifeguard's chairs and monitor people in the pool. Occasionally, I would have to use my whistle to warn some kids about excessive horseplay. Other than that, there was nothing demanding to be done other than work on my tan. I made sure that I used sunscreen each day so that I wouldn't burn. Sharon would always kid me about my feminine tan lines that my body showed. I would just smile at her teasing.

The end of June was special in another way also. It was Gene's and now Jeannie's birthday. Mom had arranged to have cake and ice cream on Saturday night after I came home from the pool. In addition to her and my sister, Mom had invited Elaine and her daughter Roberta, who went by Bobbi rather than Roberta. While we hadn't seen each other frequently, we had known each other for many years. Even though she was a girl, there was sort of a tomboyish charm about her that caused me to think of her as being cute, an opinion not necessarily shared by many other boys.

After coming home from the pool, I changed into satin lingerie, garter belt, stockings, a silky soft sheath dress and three-inch heels. My makeup was understated which allowed my healthy sun tanned glow to be evident. As I came out of my room, I saw that Elaine and Bobbi had arrived. I went over and gave each a big hug. Elaine commented on how nice a young lady I had become. I blushed at her comment and smiled at her. Bobbi could not believe how nice Jeannie looked and told me so. I looked at her and said how nice I thought she looked in her light blue satin blouse and her straight navy, knee-length skirt. Bobbi scoffed and said I was just saying that to be polite. I assured her that my comments were genuine and not said merely out of a sense of politeness. She smiled at my assurances.

Mom led Mrs. Rogers, Bobbi and I into the dining room where Sharon was lighting the candles on my lovely cake. After being serenaded with a chorus of 'Happy Birthday', I made a wish and blew the candles out. Mom asked what I had wished for. I blushed and replied that a wish wouldn't come true if you told it to someone. (I had actually wished for many more days as Jeannie.)

We chatted while we enjoyed the cake and ice cream. Elaine said that I was doing a very nice job at the pool, that I was friendly and smiled a lot and that people, especially the children, seemed to like me. She also said that Jeannie would be welcome to serve as a lifeguard next year if she so desired. I smiled and thanked her for both the job offer and for all of her kind words.

The dishes were cleared away and Sharon put several presents on the table for me to open. From Elaine, I received a nice silver necklace and earrings set. Bobbi gave me a bottle of a very feminine perfume. I took a brief whiff and knew that I would love it. I thanked both of them for their presents. I also reached over and hugged Bobbi, who had been sitting beside me. She was surprised by my hug and blushed prettily.

Sharon handed me a box printed with the name of a fine lingerie shop. I removed the lid and unfolded the tissue. Inside was a lovely pink satin negligee. The nightgown fitted over the breasts and then flowed into a nice knee-length style. The sheer robe could be held closed with a pink satin ribbon at the top. Everyone loved it, especially me.

Mom's present was last. It was a rather large box. When I opened it, I saw what looked like Sharon's old school jumper and blouse. I then saw an additional uniform skirt and blouse in the same box. When I looked at her questioningly, Mom smiled and offered an explanation.

"Jeannie, from the very first moment I saw you dressed, I knew that it would be the best thing for you to live a part of your life full time as a girl. This will give you the chance to see how completely you want to develop your feminine side. These uniforms represent a part of that chance. The headmistress at Sharon's former school has been a good friend of mine for many, many years. I explained your situation to her and asked her how I should handle it. She suggested that, if you want, you should attend her school for your junior year of high school. As you know, it is an all girls private school. She will not reveal your true gender to anyone. The only accommodation she will make for you is in excusing you from those physical education activities that would require you to be naked in the shower. Other than that, she is ready to admit you for the coming year and request your school records be sent there. She is aware that you have achieved good grades so far and she expects you to continue to maintain that standard of excellence. Also, I have talked with my friend Elaine about this and she has given me the same advice. What is your feeling?"

Obviously, Mom had taken me by surprise with her offer. It would be wonderful to go to school and dress full time as a girl. I was very open to this idea. In less than two seconds I told Mom my answer. "Mom, I have no idea where I am headed with my femininity. However, I would love to have the chance to experience what you propose and see where it leads. Thank you so very much." With that, I went around to her seat and gave her a big hug. It was settled. This fall, I would be attending Manor Hill Girls' High School.

While Sharon, Mom and Elaine cleaned up, Bobbi and I went into the family room to talk. Bobbi looked at me and said, "Jeannie, you are very cute as a young lady and no one would ever suspect that you are anything other than what you seem. You are so very lucky to be attending school as your preferred gender." I looked at her but before I could say anything, she continued. "Even though I am a girl, I do not feel attractive or pretty. I would rather do things like play ball with the boys or work on a car engine than bake cookies with my Mom. I have no interest in dating boys. She feels that it is just a phase I am going through and that I will soon outgrow it. However, I think that she is wrong on this. Jeannie, I wish I had a similar opportunity that you do. I am so jealous of you."

With that, I could see her tears start to flow. I reached out and hugged Bobbi to me, offering what little comfort I could. I told her that I always thought she was cute. Bobbi thought I was just being nice saying that but I assured her that I was telling her the truth. I even told her that before my dream of being Jeannie had been realized, I was considering asking her for a date to go to the movies. However, now that I was Jeannie, I didn't think that she would want to date a boy who wore a dress.

Bobbi composed herself a bit, looked at me and said, "Jeannie, I have always felt that Gene could possibly be the only boy that I would be interested in and would want to date. Even though you are now wearing a dress, I still see you as the one person that could possibly interest me. Would you like to go to the movies with me next Saturday? Maybe I can dress more boyish so that we look more like a proper couple even if we both are the opposite gender from what we seem."

I told Bobbi that I would love to go to the movies and asked her if she would like to go see the latest chick flick that was playing. Bobbi gave me a good-natured scowl at my suggestion but said that she would be more than willing. Since she had her own driver's license and car, she would pick me up at 7:00 pm. I smiled prettily at her and said that would be fine.

Mom, Sharon and Elaine joined us in the family room. We chatted for awhile before Elaine said that she and Bobbi had to leave. Bobbi again said that she would pick me up at 7 on Saturday. When both moms raised a quizzical eyebrow, Bobbi forcefully explained that she and Jeannie were going out to see a movie. The manner of her response precluded any more discussion right then, although I am sure that Bobbi and her mother talked about it on their way home. Regardless, I could hardly wait for Saturday and my date with Bobbi.

Chapter 3

The intervening week proceeded normally. I spent my days at the pool serving as a lifeguard dressed in one of my feminine bathing suits. After work, I would come home and put on lingerie, stockings, heels and a skirt and blouse until bedtime, when I would change into a silky nightgown for bed. On Friday, Mom told me that I was now officially a student at Manor Hill Girls' High School as she had signed the records transfer request and the admission papers. I was thrilled at the prospect of attending school this fall as a young lady.

On Saturday, I was excited about my date that evening. Fortunately, it rained all morning and afternoon, which closed the pool. Realizing that I had the afternoon off, Mom asked if I wanted to get my hair done. When I said yes, she called her salon and had appointments for us in the early afternoon. Mom suggested that I dress casually for my salon visit. I didn't need to wear stockings or heels. Nevertheless, I wore a lightweight, white sleeveless blouse and a knee-length straight skirt with nylon knee-highs and flats.

While heading to the salon, Mom gave me a quick overview of what to expect during my first salon visit. She also reminded me to carry my purse with me from one part of the salon to another. As we entered the salon, Mom's regular stylist greeted us. After greeting us, she took Mom back to a shampoo bowl. Before I could be seated to wait, Karen, my stylist, came forward and took me to a shampoo bowl.

As I sat here in the chair, Karen wrapped a towel around my neck and then covered me with a green plastic shampoo cape. Mom was reclining at the next bowl getting her hair washed and conditioned. The chair was then reclined and I rested my neck in the cutout of the shampoo bowl. I sat there and enjoyed the feeling of wonderfully relaxing shampoo. Karen massaged the soap into my scalp and developed a rich lather in my hair. A quick and thorough rinsing of the lather and then a second luxuriating and wonderful shampooing of my hair occurred. After a second rinsing, Karen worked conditioner into my hair, leaving it there for five minutes before rinsing. She squeezed the excess water from my hair, wrapped a dry towel around it and had me sit up.

I was led to Karen's styling station. Mom was in the next chair, having her hair put up on rollers. Karen removed the towel from my damp hair, carefully combed through it to remove any tangles and then trimmed the damp ends, evening them up and removing any split ends. She sprayed setting lotion on my hair and went about the task of putting my hair up on rollers. After she finished, she tied a hairnet over my head and took me to the dryer. With the clear plastic dome hood over my head, I enjoyed the feeling of the warm air blowing across my hair.

I noticed that Mom was reading a magazine. However, I chose to look around the salon and absorb all of the details. There were two rows of chair hair dryers all with the clear plastic hood like I had over my head. A few were currently in use and the women all had their shampoo capes over their bodies and hairnets over their hair. The dominant colors throughout the salon were pink and light green. Four stylists worked at mirrored stations and there were two more that were empty. Three shampoo bowls were along the back wall and the manicure table was sitting idly. As I completed my visual tour, Karen checked to see if my hair was dry. I was moved back to her styling station after she felt my dry hair.

Quickly the hairnet and rollers were removed from my hair. Karen then used her brush, comb, styling mousse and curling iron to create my new hairdo. As she applied hairspray to hold my set, I observed my hair. It had been styled into a very pretty hairdo with bangs over my forehead and my hair framing my face, just off my ears. My hair was curled out, giving me a fresh youthful appearance. I told Karen that I loved my new hairdo. She assured me it would be very easy to take care of. I met Mom at the front of the salon. She paid for both of our styles. I did give Karen a nice tip for her services.

Chapter 4

At home, Sharon complimented me on my new hairdo and kidded me about how it looked different from the usual ponytail that I wore. I asked her if she would help me select an outfit for my date. We looked through my closet and finally settled on a nice gray satin short sleeve blouse that buttoned up the back and a black A-line, knee-length skirt. Sharon also suggested that I might want to wear 1 or 2-inch heels. I agreed with her suggestion. She also reminded me to wear my sanitary pad in the event of an accident. I assured her that I would not forget something as important as that. Sharon also offered to do my makeup for the evening.

After I put on fresh satin lingerie, my garter belt, stockings and heels, I sat at Sharon's vanity while she did my face. She was working on giving me an innocent look. Hence, there was only a trace of blush on my cheeks and very little eye shadow on my lids. She did emphasize the mascara, as it would add to the appearance. I felt her apply the creamy lipstick to my lips. I savored every moment as I felt transformed under Sharon's artistic touch.

Mom called us to an early dinner, so I slipped a quilted robe over my lingerie and went to eat. After dinner, Sharon touched up my lipstick for me. I then proceeded to get dressed and wait for my date. I chose the silver earrings and necklace that Elaine had given me for my birthday. I borrowed a matching bracelet from my sister to complete my accessories. I then sprayed myself with some of the perfume that Bobbi had given me. The scent almost made my head spin. As I was taking one last look in the mirror and liking what I saw, I heard the doorbell ring.

I picked up my purse and a lightweight sweater, made sure I had some money if it were Dutch treat or my treat and headed into the living room to meet my date. We were both pleasantly surprised with when we first saw each other. Bobbi complimented me on how nice I looked in my outfit. She also liked my new hairdo. I told Bobbi that she looked nice also but I did admit that her appearance was different than what I had expected. She had on a light blue oxford cloth short sleeve shirt, dark slacks, socks and moccasins. Her normally short hair had been cut into a more boyish style. When Bobbi smiled self-consciously at my compliment, I repeated it to make sure that she knew I meant what I had said.

After telling Mom which movie we were going to and that we might stop for something to eat afterwards, Bobbi indicated the time she would have me home and asked Mom if that was acceptable. Mom said the time would be fine and she hoped that we would enjoy our evening. Bobbi opened the door for me so that we could leave. At the car, she opened the door and, after I was seated, carefully closed it. She drove safely to the theater. After parking the car, she tried to get to my side to open the door for me, but I had not even thought she would do this and so I started to get out. Realizing both her intentions and my mistake, I apologized to Bobbi for not allowing her to show me common courtesy.

Bobbi purchased our tickets and held the door open for me. We chose a row somewhat toward the back of the theater. She let me enter the seat row first and then sat beside me. While watching the movie, Bobbi gently reached for my hand and held it. Toward the end of the movie, I put my head on her shoulder. Afterwards, we went to a chain restaurant for sodas and burgers. Once again back at my house, I asked her if she wanted to come in. She declined because of the lateness of the hour. She told me that she had enjoyed herself and would I mind going out with her again. I said I had had a good time also. I smiled at her and said that I would like to go out with her again. With that, I gave Bobbi a light kiss on her lips, opened the door and went inside.

Chapter 5

Mom was sitting in the living room reading as I walked in. She looked up from her book and asked me if I had had a good time. I smiled at her and said that the evening was great. With that, I walked, or rather I floated on air to my room. I removed my skirt and blouse and carefully hung them up. After I removed my shoes, slip, stockings and garter belt, I went to my drawer to select a nightgown. I had just selected a lovely dark blue, satin, waltz-length nightgown when my sister Sharon walked in, wearing a black satin nightgown, the very same one I wore the first time I slept as Jeannie.

As I put on my nightgown, Sharon sat on my bed and asked me about my date. I told her essentially the same thing as I had told Mom, that I had had a wonderful time. However, Sharon still pressed on for details saying, "Come on now, Jeannie. Sisters frequently share more details with each other about their dates than that." I smiled at her as I sat down on my vanity chair.

I told her about how Bobbi was dressed in a rather boyish style, about the movie that we went to see, about our stopping for sodas and burgers afterwards and about Bobbi asking me if she could continue to date me. Sharon gave me a look that seemed to say, "Is that all there was to your date?" I thought about for a second or two, giggled a bit and then told her that, if I had to describe Bobbi's behavior, I would say that she acted like a perfect gentleman.

After I said that, I giggled again. I stopped and thought about my date some more. If Bobbi had been the perfect gentleman, then, based on my behavior, I must have been the perfect young lady. My big sister smiled when she heard me express this thought. Sharon got up and gave me a hug while telling me that she happy that I had a good time on my date. Before she went to her room, she reminded me to select my outfit for church in the morning.

I proceeded to select my dress and shoes that I would wear to services in the morning. I then removed my makeup and thoroughly cleansed my skin. In order to protect my new hairdo and have it presentable tomorrow, I put on a satin sleep bonnet. As I turned out the light and climbed into bed, my thoughts and my subsequent dreams were about Bobbi. Although it might be presumptuous, as this was only our first date, I still had dreams someday wearing a lovely white gown and veil and being Bobbi's bride.

Chapter 6

The summer continued on with many more highlights than I could have ever imagined. I worked Monday through Saturday at my job at the pool. Everyday, I would put on my panty brief and one of my lovely swimsuits, pull my hair back into a ponytail and secure it with a scrunchie, slip into shorts, a tee and sandals and pick up my bag with my towel, book, hat, sunscreen and sun glasses and head out to be a lifeguard at the pool. I would use only a little lipstick as my makeup. However, because I was out in the sun for long periods each day, the type of lipstick that I used was rich in emollients and moisturizers. Likewise, morning and night, I used a moisturizing cream on my face to keep it soft and prevent it from wrinkling.

Over the summer, I had gotten closer to Elaine, both through my work at the pool and in my dating her daughter Bobbi. Often, in private, Elaine would compliment me on how feminine I both looked and behaved. She continued to marvel over my transformation to Jeannie. She also valued having me fill one of the lifeguard positions at the pool.

At one point, she even asked how I was managing to deal with Bobbi's seemingly more and more boyish appearance. I told her that I had come to know the Bobbi inside and was not concerned with the Bobbi outside. I had found her to be a sweet, kind, gentle and sensitive person. Whether she wore a blouse and skirt or a more boyish oxford cloth shirt and slacks, it did not change her inner being. I reminded Elaine that she could express the same doubts to Bobbi about her dating a guy that seemed to becoming more and more feminine with each passing day. To my surprise, Elaine admitted having asked Bobbi that very question and gotten a very similar answer from her about me that I had just given regarding Bobbi.

Elaine smiled, reached out and hugged me and told me that, before Bobbi had met me, she had her concerns about Bobbi's seeming rejection of her feminine side, even to the point of not wanting to date boys or to wear dresses, skirts, blouses and lingerie. However, since Bobbi and I had started dating, Bobbi's entire outlook had picked up. Her view of life had turned completely around. It was the happiest that she had ever seen Bobbi. Elaine was so thankful that I was the person that I was, regardless of how I dressed or what I wore.

She also said that she was happy to have me serve as a lifeguard this summer. She repeated her offer, made at my birthday party, saying she would welcome me back the following year if I so desired. Even though both the hugs and the compliments overwhelmed me, I did have the presence of mind to thank Elaine for her kind words and her offer of a job for the following summer. I said that I would think it over and let her know before I left at Labor Day. She said that it would be appreciated if I would let her know by then.

Toward the end of the summer, Mom and I had gone shopping for my fall wardrobe, which consisted of several white uniform blouses, three light blue uniform skirts, three light blue jumpers and a matching dark blue school blazer. We picked up some satin lingerie, cosmetics, nylons and shoes for school. The shoes were flats in black.

As the summer waned, my relationship with Bobbi grew. Sometimes a date would be simply be a picnic at the beach or attending a concert in the park. Other times, we would go to a movie, whether it was a chick flick that I selected or an action thriller that Bobbi chose. We even spent a day at the State Fair, eating cotton candy, viewing the crafts and livestock and going on the rides. On the Fourth of July, we had a picnic in the park, listened to a patriotic concert and then watched the fireworks light the night sky. As I sat on the blanket wearing a sleeveless white cotton blouse and a knee-length denim swing skirt, I could also feel the fireworks going off inside me. I snuggled close to Bobbi as she wrapped her arms protectively around me while we watched the exciting sky celebration. Throughout our summer of dating, Bobbi always behaved as the perfect gentleman. Naturally, I behaved like the perfect young lady that I was trying to be. Nevertheless, I was totally enjoying this, my first summer as Jeannie.

Chapter 7

Toward the middle of August, Bobbi asked if I would like to go to a 50's dance over Labor Day weekend. She indicated that any attire related to the 50's would be appropriate. I agreed immediately and then thought about what I would wear to the dance. At first, I thought I would wear my poodle skirt and top that evening. However, after some more thought, I came up with a better outfit. I asked Bobbi if she would mind if I wore something very dressy from the 50's. After I described my new gold satin cocktail dress, Bobbi thought that it sounded great and she would love to see me wearing it.

My last day of work at the pool was the Friday before Labor Day. At the end of the day, I thanked Elaine for hiring me for the summer and told her that I would love to return next summer and again work as a lifeguard. Elaine smiled when she heard my decision and then she hugged me. She then told me that Bobbi was really looking forward to the 50's dance and had even purchased some new clothes for the evening. I told her that I was also looking forward to the dance. After describing the dress that I would wear to the dance, I told Elaine that I even had an appointment to have my hair and makeup professionally done. She smiled over my obvious feminine excitement.

I awoke early Saturday morning feeling well rested and enthusiastic about the dance that evening. My black satin nightgown clung to my body as I prepared to get up. I slipped my quilted robe over my nightgown, put on my slippers and went to the kitchen to have breakfast with Mom and Sharon. After breakfast, I took my shower, making sure to protect my hair with my shower cap. I dried myself off and then applied a generous amount of the scented lilac bath powder to my body.

Since I was going to be very dressed up later in the day, I decided to wear just white satin lingerie, a white cotton sleeveless pullover blouse, a dark green A-line skirt, knee-highs and flats for my beauty appointment. Sharon offered to drive me over to the salon, which was on her way to the mall. She was planning to do some shopping. I picked up my purse, put it over my shoulder and went out to the car.

Karen was waiting for me when I entered the salon. After seating me at her styling station, she wrapped a towel around my neck and then covered me with a green plastic shampoo cape. Karen then had me follow her back to the shampoo bowl. While the discomforts of reclining with my neck supported by the cutout in the shampoo bowl were obvious, they were far outweighed by the pleasures of the relaxing shampoo and conditioning.

With a towel covering my damp hair, I again followed Karen, this time back to her styling station. After combing out the tangles and trimming up the ends, she proceeded to give me a body permanent. She felt that my hair needed body more than it needed curl.

As I handed her an end paper, she wrapped it around some of my hair and then wound it on to a perm rod. We chatted about the dance that evening as she continued to cover my head with perm rods. When she had gotten all of my hair up on rods, Karen wrapped cotton around the outer edges, to absorb any solution runoff. She handed me a towel for my eyes and then proceeded to soak each rod with the permanent solution. Once in a while, some of the solution would get past the cotton barrier and I would use the towel to keep it from my eyes. My hair was soon fully coated with the solution. Karen put a large plastic bag over the curlers and used a large clip to hold it in place. After setting the timer, she handed me the current issue of a ladies magazine, which I read until the timer went off.

Karen took me to the shampoo bowl where she rinsed my hair, applied the neutralizing solution and attached the neutralizing bib to my head, allowing the excess solution to drain into the bowl. Again, I went through a timed process, although the process was much shorter this time. When the timer went off, Karen took out my perm rods and rinsed my hair again. She then took and set my hair on rollers so that there would be curl in it. After having the rollers covered with a hairnet and being seated under a dryer, I continued reading my ladies magazine.

When I was dry, Karen took me to the back of the salon where the makeup station was located. I sat in a high back salon chair that even provided cushioned support for my head. After reclining me slightly, she put a plastic shower cap over my rollers and then started on my face. Karen applied an herbal cleansing cream to my face to thoroughly clean the pores. She next applied a deep cleansing mask that covered all of my face except my eyes and lips. It was somewhat funny looking at my reflection in the mirror and seeing a blue face look back at me.

The cleansing mask was kept on for about ten minutes. When Karen peeled it away, my face felt fresh and alive. She then did my makeup for the dance. Liquid foundation was carefully smoothed over my face followed by a light powder that was gently brushed on. Karen used blush and eye shadow that would both highlight my face and go well with my gold satin dress. She carefully applied the blush to my cheekbones. Mascara was put on my upper and lower lashes making them look fuller and calling attention to my eyes. She them took a lip pencil and carefully outlined my lips before filling them with a nice red lipstick.

Karen suggested that I wait and see my hair and makeup together. I readily accepted her suggestion. Back at her styling station, Karen kept me turned away from the mirror so that I couldn't have an advanced peek at myself. As she removed my rollers and styled and teased my hair, she and I again chatted about the dance. After applying hairspray, she allowed me to see the finished product.

Karen's handiwork was excellent. I was pleased with the total picture I saw in the mirror. My makeup was done to perfection. My hair had nice body throughout, bangs over my forehead and it had an outward curl all around my neck. My face was framed nicely by my new hairdo. My hair was set back behind my ears. Karen also gave me instructions on touching up my makeup, if I needed to do so.

As I was paying Karen for my makeover and hairdo, plus including a nice tip, Sharon walked in to see how close I was to being ready. She took one look at me and gave me a mock wolf whistle. On the way to the car, she told me that Bobbi's eyes would really light up tonight when she saw me. I blushed over her compliments and good-natured ribbing.

In the car, there was a pink bag from The Lingerie Store sitting on my seat. When I started to move it out of the way, Sharon said, "Go ahead Jeannie and look inside. I got those for you to wear tonight under your dress, little sister." When I opened the bag, I saw a lovely set of gold lingerie that matched my cocktail dress. Sharon said that she wanted me to wear gold satin, both inside and out. I smiled and expressed my thanks, both for her thoughtfulness and for being such a great big sister for me. I am fortunate to have such a wonderful and supportive big sister.

Chapter 8

Mom told me how nice I looked when I got home. She also asked if it would be all right with me if Elaine came over and took some pictures of Bobbi and I before we went to the dance. I told her that it was fine with me. I went to my room to start to get dressed. I took off everything that I had on and put my new gold satin garter belt around my waist. I selected a pair of my nylons from my drawer to wear. I sat on my bed and carefully drew them up my smooth legs. The sensation of the nylons on my skin was one that I always savor. I carefully attached the stocking tops to my garter tabs.

Next, I slid my gold satin panties in place. Before I snugged them around my waist, I made sure to tuck myself in and place a sanitary pad in the proper position. My satin bra with my breast form went across my chest and was fastened in the back. I then put on the knee-length gold satin slip. It had lace around the hem and across the bodice. It felt so soft as it slid down over my body.

I stepped into my starched white crinoline and secured it around my waist. I slid my feet into my three-inch open-toed heels. It was still a thrill to look down at my feet and see my painted toenails through my stockings. Just as I was removing my cocktail dress from the closet, Sharon came in asking if she could help me finish getting ready. I told her that she was just in time to zip me up once I put on my dress. I slid it over my head, making sure I did not ruin either my makeup or hairdo. I pulled the short sleeves up on to my arms. As soon as the dress was properly in place Sharon was behind me, zipping me up.

My jewelry consisted of a gold necklace and gold clip-on earrings. I had borrowed a gold bracelet from my sister and now put that on my wrist. Sharon picked up my favorite perfume and sprayed some on me. I had already fixed my purse so that it contained some lipstick, a compact, some tissues and some "mad money". As we talked for a few seconds, I heard the doorbell ring and then heard Mom greet Elaine and Bobbi. I walked from my room to meet them.

As I walked, I loved feeling the crinoline and the dress brush against my stocking clad legs. When I walked into the living room, I was very surprised with my date's appearance. Bobbi, or more properly Robby, was dressed in dark slacks and a matching sports coat. She wore a light blue oxford cloth shirt and a tie. Her boyish hair had been neatly combed with a part on the right side. Robby was equally as surprised and pleased with my appearance as I was with hers. She complimented me and handed me a corsage box from the local florist. I opened it and saw a lovely wrist corsage. As I removed it from the box, I thanked Robby for it. I then slid it on my left wrist. Bobbi smiled at me as she heard me refer to her as Robby instead of Bobbi.

Elaine had been taking pictures from the moment I first walked into the living room. She had pictures of me coming in, of Robby handing me my corsage and of me putting it on my wrist. She posed us beside each other and had us smile like the attractive young couple that we were. Just before we left, I reached over and kissed Robby lightly on the cheek. Naturally, Robby blushed slightly while his mother captured this moment forever on film. We departed for the dance as Elaine and Mom settled into the living room for a nice visit.

The rest of the evening was absolutely wonderful. Robby was more of a perfect gentleman tonight than she had been in the past. She held the car door open for me as I got in. She gently held my arm as we walked into the dance. She got me punch and cookies during the intermission. When we danced close during the slow numbers, it felt so heavenly being held in her arms. I could see that she was pleased every time I referred to her as Robby. I think that Elaine and Mom had even picked up on it for I saw them both smile when I would say Robby.

After the dance, we stopped for our usual after a date snack of burgers and burgers. As always, I made sure that I took dainty, ladylike bites from my burger and slowly sipped my soda. On the way home, I slid over next to Robby. She, in turn, put her arm around my shoulders. Just before we reached my house, Robby stopped the car. She turned her face toward me. I understood her thought perfectly. Since our mothers would hear us drive up, a good night kiss would not be possible. My lips eagerly awaited her kiss. As she pulled me to her and kissed me, I sighed contentedly. When we had exchanged a nice 'Good Night' kiss while sitting there, Robby then took me home. As she walked me to my door, I thanked her for both a most wonderful evening and an equally wonderful summer. She asked if we could continue dating once school began. I smiled and said I would like that. We then walked in and greeted our mothers.

Epilogue

Labor Day is traditionally the end of summer for those going back to school. For me it had been a wonderful summer. I was able to be Jeannie, with my mother's blessing, for the entire time. I had held a job as a female lifeguard and had met and begun dating Bobbi (I mean Robby). Fall now meant going to an all girls high school and, hopefully, continuing on with my developing relationship with Robby. This was the first time that I had approached the school year with such joy and optimism. I just knew, deep down in my heart, that Jeannie was going to have a truly wonderful year.
