The Outsider 2

by: Paul G Jutras

"Have a good day at work," Harriet said as she kissed her husband good bye. As he pulled out of the driveway, the pre- school bus pulled up. "Kids, hurry up or you'll be late for school."

"Bye mom!!" Jennifer and Philip said at the same time as they hurried out the door. Harriet stood in the door way and waited for them to all go before she made her move.

"Now let's see what we can see." Harriet said to herself as she picked the lock into Jake's private den and brought up her husband's saved files on the computer. Files for a pair of sites known as CRYSTAL'S and FICTIONMANIA. "So the dear want to know what it's like to be a woman, huh."

Taking her keys from her purse; she locked the door back off and drove down to a strip mall that contained a super market, a jewelry story, a pizza place, a woman's outlet store and a place called Spells R Us.

"Hello, Harriet." Said a man in a black bathrobe and a plain pointed black hat. He had lots of props from different movies that contained wizards, dragons and other mythical beings from the middle ages. He twirled a wand between finger and thumb. "I've been expecting you."

"I was looking at some internet stories and remembered seeing the store's name from when I picked up the kids at daycare yesterday."

"This candle is what you're looking for." The wizard said with a smile. "I just hope you get what you're hoping for."

When Jake got home that night he had found that Dana next door was looking after the kids. "I found those sites of yours on the net."

"It's not what you think." Jake said, a bit shaken about being discovered.

"You didn't know that Spells R Us is real, did you?" Harriet said as she held up a candle and recited at spell. As she did, the candle melted away in her hand. The light flickered and lighting crashed outside the house. When they lights came on, Jake found himself starring at his own body.

"This can't be happening," Jake protested as his own strong arm dragged him to bed for the best night of sex in his life. After which they laid naked except for the thin bed sheet covering them. Harriet in Jake's body sat up with the lap top and tried to bring up her husband favorite stories.

"The site stories have disappeared." Harriet said curiously. Jake was too exhausted from the sex to notice that the lap top wasn't even plugged in. "Not to mention the mention of Spells R Us being or ever been in this town.

"It... It has to be there." Jake said, slightly out of breath.

"We'll find it don't worry." Harriet smiled as she put the lap top away. "You better get starting on making the kids and my breakfast while I get ready to go to your job. Can't let people think we're nuts by telling the truth."

Preparing food proved to be tougher than he thought as he burned six slices of toast, a dozen eggs and four slices of bacon before getting it right. With the kitchen cleaned up all on his own by the time the kids got up, they were none the wiser.

After Harriet went to Jake's job and the kids were off to their daycare of a pre-school bus, he wrote himself a note reminding himself that the bus only delivers to school and that she'd have to pick the kids up at noon.

"Here we go." Jake smiled as he found the correct Spells R Us story that contained the candle spell that his wife used to switch bodies with him. At least he thought it was the right spell. He had no idea that Harriet had already switched the spell with another one before he had gotten home from work the day before.

He cast the spell upon one of the household candles and reluctantly went about the choirs of cleaning house and having to listen to his wife's neighbors gossip about things he had no interest in hearing about what so ever.

"I found the spell to switch us back." Jake said after the kids were in bed. "Shall we try?"

"Okay." Harriet said with a smiled as she looked herself in the eye. "Let's do it."

Jake said the spell as watched while the lights seem to flicker like the previous night. When the lights were restored; however, he was still in his wife's body. "It... It didn't work." Jake sounded heart broken in his hacker skills to find what he wanted.

"The spell worked all right," Harriet said wickedly. "The spell you recited is now rewriting your mind to think you are me. Soon you will forget you were ever Jake and be me. You wanted to be a woman according to those stories you read and wrote. Foolish to use your real name actually. But then again, I was always the brains in this family. I'm wearing the pants for now on."

"Jake honey, It's getting late." Jake suddenly said. "Let's go to bed. The kids are asleep and it's just you and me now."

"That's my good girl," Harriet smiled as she took her former husband now wife to bed.

A week later, Harriet got back from work to find her husband playing bridge with the neighborhood girls. Harriet always hated the card game and being talking into being a forth. She also made sure that the stories were removed from the computer so that the new Harriet wouldn't think if doing what she had already done. For now life is perfect.
