Sally - The New Saturday Girl

by Sally Stephanie

Laura looked at me then at Cindy

"That's not George already is it?" she said.

As Miss Roberts went to open the door Cindy hurried over to me, put a hand on my arm and said

"Don't let Georgie intimidate you, remember we are all here to help you."

I wanted this to be so. But my mind kept going back to the photos. Why had they taken them? Certainly I did not consider myself a realistic candidate for blackmail. And they had already gone to some considerable effort and expense to help me. Miss Roberts had even paid off my tenancy agreement and Laura let me move in with her.

I needed answers to clear any doubts so I asked Cindy,

"Why did you need to take those photographs?" I blurted out. For a second I thought I was going to cry

Cindy looked upset. She gave me a hug before offering and explanation

"It was Karen's idea. But you must not misjudge her. She didn't want you to panic and run off"

"Why?" I replied.

Cindy sat up and smiled

"She doesn't want you to miss the opportunity to travel the road she, and we, know you want to. Oh Sally I can see you're offended. It was a silly thing to do, but you'll find out in time that we really do want to help you. Please forgive us? "

I nodded "I forgive you"

Miss Roberts welcomed the visitor.

"Georgie! How are you?" she sounded delighted whoever it was.

One thing I had noticed about Miss Roberts and the two girls was their great figures. They could wear almost any clothes and look great. Having seen Miss Roberts in her underwear I could vouch for the fact that she would make a great lingerie model.

But when 'Georgie' entered the room I was speechless!

Georgie, it turned out was short for Georgina. And she had the most amazing figure I think I had ever seen. She was five foot ten (albeit in heels) and must no larger than a size 8. Her light blonde hair was styled to perfection and her makeup was simply stunning.

She wore a coral coloured skirt suit with matching heels; a white vest top was just visible under the jacket. Her gold jewellery looked every bit as expensive as the rest of her and I found myself wanting the handbag she carried.

Georgina put her bag down and gave all the girls a hug as if they were long lost friends. Then she ran an immaculately manicured hand through her hair and approached me.

"Hi I'm Georgina, but they all call me Georgie you must be Sally?" As she then gave me a similar hug.

I replied "Yes", and took in the scent of the perfume she was wearing.

"I'm pleased to meet you Sally, and it's fine for you to call me Georgie too! We are all friends here!" she replied in a warm tone.

She stood back a step and looked me over. Her eyes went from my shoes then up to the red skirt and jumper and finally my face. I found it difficult to look here straight in the eyes.

Georgina took my hands and inspected the nail polish. Then she spoke, but not directly to me, more about me

"I have seen a lot worse Karen. We do have some work here though."

Georgina gave me a smile and then put a hand to my hair

"We will need to do something with this hair of yours Sally. Have you ever had it coloured or even worn it shoulder length before?"

I shook my head "No Georgie"

"Well don't you worry about that! There's plenty of time for hairdressing later".

Miss Roberts came over beside us

"Georgie here is going to be your guardian angel for the next week Sally. She is the senior cabin crew trainer for a large international airline. She has plenty of experience instructing young women in their more refined roles and will help introduce you to your new world."

Georgie smiled "I'm not an ogre Sally so just relax and enjoy"

It took little guessing on my part that the cabin crew she had instructed had been of the female variety so at least I had an idea of what might be in store over the coming week.

We all took a break and it was Georgie who pointed out to me the correct way for a lady to take tea. This was one of the little mannerisms that Miss Roberts had said I was lacking. It had to be second nature to me if I was going to pass the test.

When we had finished our refreshments it was a little after three o'clock in the afternoon and Georgie got to her feet and announced

"I think we should all go out for a late lunch!"

Miss Roberts and Cindy nodded but Laura pointed toward the kitchen and said

"I could make everyone lunch here, its no bother"

Georgie shook her head and took me by the hand towards my room.

"That's sweet Laura, but I think I want to see Sally in real time – it will help me make an assessment. Now Sally, lets get you changed into something nice, where is that room of yours?"

Laura had previously given me a whirlwind tour of my new home and I took her to my room where she went straight for the wardrobe to see what was inside

"Take off everything Sally, even your undies" she said as she fanned through the rail looking for just the right outfit for lunch.

I did as she asked and folded the jumper and skirt neatly, putting them on the end of bed before taking off the shoes and placing them beside the drawer.

Georgie turned round to see me standing in my underwear. She noted the black halter neck bra and the white panties.

"That does surprise me Sally, black bra with white knickers. You know very few women wear matching sets these days. I would have thought you would have gone for a set, but well done for that. You might want to wear a conventional style bra with what I have in mind – white if you please".

I removed the black bra and replaced it with a white one from my lingerie drawer. Fortunately the girls had purchased padded bras to compensate for my lack of a real bust.

Georgie came over to help me adjust the shoulder straps.

"For comfort you need to adjust these straps each time you wear your bra. Now I have just the thing to fill those cups Sally so back in a moment"

She left me standing there in just my underwear. I walked over to what she had picked out for me to wear.

Hanging on the back of the wardrobe was a beautiful lilac floral print dress that the label said was a linen/cotton mix. I felt the dress and loved it immediately.

Georgie came back in to the room carrying the enormous vanity case she had brought with her. She put it on the floor next to the dressing table and, after opening it, took out a small package. When she turned round she caught me admiring the dress. She smiled and said almost poetically

"Let the sun shine, the flowers bloom and step out in summer style!"

She turned to face me and I looked at what she was holding. They were breast enhancer and I had seen them in catalogues before.

Georgie inserted them into my bra and re-adjusted the straps before stepping back to view my new cleavage.

"These enhancers are great – they increase your cup size by two so that makes you a D now!"

She looked satisfied with the appearance of my chest. Then went on to reassure me that they would only be a temporary measure

"There's a method to the madness Sally. Your bra and the others are all 'B' cups. They may feel a little tight but having you in a smaller cup will help you develop natural breasts. And don't worry you won't be taking any pills or potions to prompt growth. Those thinks aren't proven in any case".

Georgie unzipped the dress and motioned for me to step in. She zipped me up adjusted the dress at the waist before handing me a pair of pink satin sandals which she had selected to show off such pretty pink toenails.

A matching floral chiffon scarf was tied round one of the handles of a cream handbag and handed it to me. A pair of sunglasses came next and I put them in my bag. Georgie tutted and took the sunglasses back then placed them on my head.

"Sunglasses are a great summer accessory that don't belong in a bag"

This I took as a mild scolding.

As I looked at myself in the mirror I felt relaxed in this very summery ensemble.

Georgie motioned me over to the dressing table and re-opened the case. She took out a long fake hairpiece and started to fix it to the back of my head

"This ponytail will add to your look. Once we get a chance to get to work on that hair of your we won't need to use this again".

As she pinned the hair to my head I felt a little pain as the pins were inserted. A hairbrush and spray was then used to merge my own hair to the fake section. Because my hair was short she decided to pull back my fringe and give me a really tight hairline. It required a considerable amount of brushing and loads of hair gel to give me the semblance of a female hairstyle.

Georgie appeared satisfied with her efforts then started selecting some jewellery for me to wear.

"I don't bother with clip earrings because they hurt too much. There's plenty of time for earrings after you get pierced. We'll just go for a nice bangle and a neck chain"

Next she wanted to fix my makeup because

"Red lipstick is fine but not on a lunch date. Food and drink are a girls worst enemy when she's wearing red".

Georgie removed the current shade then selected a colour more in keeping with my outfit. She applied the makeup quickly and allowed me to look at her work.

"Lip gloss is not as heavy as lipstick Sally. It's great and gives a super shimmer. That shade of pink suits you too".

The pearly tint of the gloss did seem to complement my colouring and it had a delicious fruity taste, which I was tempted to lick off right away.

Georgie put the gloss in my bag and handed it to me.

"I see you've discovered another plus about lip gloss - you'd better take this with you. Now up you get I need to do a bit of fixing myself"

She sat down and proceeded to repair her own makeup then spritzed her neck and wrists with that lovely perfume I had caught a glimpse of when we first met.

I studied how she applied her makeup. It was almost hypnotising and I wondered if I would ever achieve even half of the skills required to put on a face.

When she had completed her routine she returned the products to the large vanity case, locked it then lifted it to take it back downstairs with her.

"Come on Sally, lets eat"

Together we headed back to the lounge where we found the other ready to go. Laura picked up her bag and she headed for the front door with Miss Roberts just behind her.

Cindy fixed one of the straps on my dress that had got criss-crossed then commented

"We thought you were never going to be ready!" followed up with

"Love the dress Sally"

Laura warned me that it would not be too long before they would be borrowing things from me.

Lunch turned out to be Georgie's treat. She took us to one of her favourite eating- places, where the manager Andrew was 'just adorable' when it came to getting a table at late notice.

It was a very sophisticated restaurant and very busy even this late in the afternoon. We were ushered to our seats by Andrew himself and he took his time to carefully pull out each chair and wait for each of us to be seated.

He did not recognise me and enquired to Georgie

"And this is?"

Georgie smiled and replied "This is Sally, Sally this is Andrew"

I managed a smile as Andrew said he was very pleased to meet me. He then handed out the menu and said he would get a waiter over to serve us.

The prices were astronomical. My shimmering pink nail polish distracted me as I ran my finger down the choices. The glint of colour was wonderful and wearing it made me feel good.

Georgie was sitting directly opposite me and she suggested

"I'd go for the Chef's Salad Sally – it's yummy and won't put the pounds on!"

I nodded.

Laura was sitting on my left and she whispered in my ear

"Remember to keep your knees together. And it helps if you do the same with your ankles"

Again I glanced down and pushed my knees together. This was going to take practice before I did not need reminding of the correct posture.

She motioned to her own legs as if to demonstrate how I should be sitting – but she was wearing jeans and trainers while I was having to keep checking the hem of my dress if I wanted to avoid it riding up whenever I sat down. Then there were the high-heeled sandals to contend with.

All the time I was aware that Georgie was studying my every gesture. Obviously she was assessing me in a 'live' situation rather than the confines of a bedroom or lounge.

When the lunches arrived we were all quite hungry. It suddenly occurred to me that, since Friday, all I had eaten was some takeaway lunch en-route to Miss Roberts house. As it was now Sunday afternoon I was ravenous but this was the first time I had actually felt like eating. Perhaps my adrenalin had kept my mind off food?

The salad Georgie had recommended did not look as if it was going to satisfy my sudden hunger pangs even though the vegetables were quite large chunks. I took my fork and selected a large portion of the salad.

It turned out to be my first mistake. Last week taking such a portion would have been no problem – but last week I wasn't wearing lip-gloss and, as soon as I put the food in my mouth I was sure the makeup was smudged beyond repair.

Large slices of tomato and cucumber, not to mention lettuce leaves, which were not eaten carefully, would do that to a girl's makeup.

I used my napkin to wipe my mouth and noticed that mistake number two was not to leave what was left of your makeup on the serviette. I started to panic a little.

Georgie leaned over and quietly spoke

"Go to the ladies room Sally and fix yourself up"

Her tone was not scolding. When she spoke she seemed to have a calming effect and did not come across as threatening at all.

I excused myself from the table taking my bag with me and went off to find the ladies room. As I was walking away I heard Georgie say to Laura

"Let her go herself Laura. She has to learn".

When I reached the relative quiet of the ladies I stood over the washbasin and my reflection stared back at me from the mirror. My makeup was in fact in need of repair and for a second I thought I was going to burst into tears.

I was still not entirely sure what motive they had for assisting me to dress as a woman. That upset me too.

Perhaps having only experienced long-lasting stay-put lipstick, the ease with which the gloss had come off my lips had caught me very much by surprise.

But it had taught me a valuable lesson that I would remember from now on. Women have a very different set of priorities to men. That extended even down to eating a meal.

I opened my handbag and took out the powder compact, some tissues and the lip gloss. I wiped away the last remaining traces of the gloss from my mouth then used the powder compact to fix up the area around my lips and chin.

The small sponge at the end of the lip gloss wand allowed for a smooth application of the shimmering liquid and I started to calm down.

A few flecks of mascara had strayed onto my under eye area. Although the product was waterproof it probably got there when I had blinked during the application. I used the powder sponge to remove the marks then dusted my nose and forehead to remove the shine. The face that stared back at me was now in much better order than when I had first come into the washroom.

I replaced my makeup in the handbag then ran a hand through my hair. The ponytail was quite long and it was not the most comfortable thing to wear. I would be glad to get my hair styled if only to avoid having to continue wearing extensions.

After smoothing out my dress and checking that everything was back in my bag I set off back to the table to finish my lunch.

The women took little notice of me when I sat back down. Obviously it was no big deal to them and I was glad no one wanted to make a fuss.

When I started to eat my salad I made sure to first cut the portions in to smaller bite-sized portions, and took extra care when inserting the food in my mouth.

It was Georgie who broke the silence first

"So Sally you're better now?"

I looked over at her and nodded, "Yes Georgie, thanks for asking"

When she smiled back I felt an awful lot better. She poured me a glass of mineral water before continuing

"You do have the potential to become a very pretty woman indeed."

I did not know what to say. Before I could respond she looked me in the eyes

Cindy joined in the debate when she leaned forward and said

"Who wants to live in a mans world anyway?"

As I sat back to reflect on what Cindy had just said I watched as Georgie carefully wiped her mouth with a napkin. She was very careful not to disturb her makeup and I wished I had been so gentle when I tried the same thing earlier.

Georgie took a sip of her mineral water then enquired

" I here you're going to work full time in Karen's shop very soon?"

Miss Roberts put down her glass. She had not said a great deal since Georgie had arrived but I knew she was still in charge of proceedings. When she spoke they all listened.

"I'm going to have a word with personnel tomorrow, try and get the paperwork sorted out. Of course Sally will have to attend an interview with the Area Supervisor but that can be done in-house".

Miss Roberts looked across at me and managed a smile

"Don't worry about the interview Sally. It's only procedure and you'll sail through it after Georgie has you for the week".

Georgie nodded before reassuring me that the 'training' was not all hard work

"You'll have some fun too. It's not boot camp after all!"

I smiled and felt a little better. In all the excitement I had all but forgotten that this week was going to be my induction. What the program content would be had not been fully communicated to me.

Cindy and Laura did their best to help me relax ahead of the interview. Laura took my hand and smiled

"We all had to go through the interview but it sounds worse than it is. As long as you've got an idea about fashion you'll be fine"

Cindy seconded that comment and added

"And you have already worked in our store so it's only the formalities to go through!"

Although this sounded great I was not entirely sure if my knowledge of fashion was going to be sufficient to pass an interview.

It was Miss Roberts who offered further assistance when she said

"I'll get you copies of our current catalogue Sally. As long as you have a fair idea of what we sell then it won't be any problem. Just make sure you find the time to study the range before next week".

Georgie went in her handbag and took out an expensive looking purse. She selected a credit card with which to pay the bill. She looked along the line to Miss Roberts to indicate that the meal was at an end

"No more talk of horrible interviews then! Right, I reckon it's time to head back and Sally and I can have our little chat".

Miss Roberts nodded in agreement. She turned to Cindy

"Cindy I'll give you a lift home if you like?"

Cindy nodded and turned to me to offer a farewell hug

"Take care Sally! I can't wait to see you on Saturday!"

She hugged me and gave me a peck on the cheek. Both her and Miss Roberts left the rest of us to return to Laura's flat.

The bill settled we followed Georgie out to her car. She opened the doors and motioned that I should sit in the front with her. Laura took the back seat.

Georgie put her sunglasses down over her eyes then started up the engine. She glanced across at me and said

"Sally put your sunglasses on please!"

I put the sunglasses on then glanced down at my knees to make sure they were tight together the way Laura had shown me. Georgie waited until I had smoothed out the hem of my dress before pulling the car out into the road.

It was just before seven o'clock when we put our handbags down in the lounge and sat down to rest our legs.

Laura looked a little tired after the exertions of the day

"If you girls don't mind I'm going to have an early night. You remember where everything is Sally?" she said with a yawn.

I nodded and managed a very quiet "Yes".

Laura then gave Georgie a hug and followed up with the same show of affection on me.

"Nite Sally! See you tomorrow!"

I wished her goodnight.

Laura turned to Georgie and handed her a set of keys from her handbag

"You'd better keep these for the week Georgie. They're spare so just use them as you need to"

Georgie took the keys and wished Laura a restful night. Then she turned to me and I knew business was about to begin.

For the first time since I'd met her she took off her jacket and I noted her body was as fantastic as I had imagined it to be. Even the way she slid off her high heels oozed femininity. Would I ever capture the grace of such actions?

Georgie took a palm top PC from her handbag, switched it on then started hitting the keypad with the light pen. She spoke as she opened up the computer files

"Okay Sally lets get down to business. I'm going to give you a quick overview of what the week is going to involve. As you probably guessed the lunch date was part of my plan – I had to see how you coped in the outside world".

I said nothing but simply waited for her to continue. She hit a few more buttons on the hand-held PC before continuing

"On a scale of one to ten I've awarded you a six. That allows me to tailor your training to your needs. You might wish to know that my normal score for a first time girl is a five so you've not done too badly"

This surprised me, especially after the disaster with the salad.

Georgie went back into her large vanity case and removed a document wallet, which she opened on the table before us. I could not make out exactly what was written on the various laminated sheets.

She handed me what appeared to be a thick bound booklet and one of the laminated sheets as she spoke

"Now Sally this is what we are going to do. First of all I need you to complete this questionnaire. It will help me so please be completely honest. You should put down the first answer that agrees most with what you feel. Don't spend half and hour changing your mind"

She gave me the booklet then two large laminated cards. My reaction told her I was worried.

"Don't panic – I'm not a psychologist or anything. We use these tests when we are training young ladies to become flight attendants".

The first card she handed me looked like a daily wardrobe planner, the second was a diet sheet.

"This is your wardrobe for the week. On home days I've allowed you three choices for each day. You can select any of the three looks shown on the sheet, and if you need to change for any reason then you should select the next option on that day. Where I have not given you an option you can take it that you will be required to go outside, and what is shown on those days is what you must wear".

I glanced through the double-sided sheet and noticed that on Wednesday and Friday Georgie had preference for what I was to put on. The other days I could choose from the options listed.

Georgie gave me a couple of minutes to digest the sheet and then spoke once more.

"The colour and cut I leave to you Sally. It gives you a guide to what to wear – how you wear it will help me judge your progress. And I expect you to choose a suitable handbag – in case we have to go out at short notice"

The choices for 'home' days were listed under a theme rather than specific items so if it said 'Girl About Town' I assumed something casual would be appropriate. On the other two days she had actually listed exactly what to wear. I began to wonder if I'd seen a red skirt with white polka dots hanging in my wardrobe?

When I looked at the diet sheet I noticed a lot of salad items were included on the sheet.

"Your diet is equally important, especially in the first few months"

I glanced up from the sheet as she walked across the lounge to the television display cabinet. Inside were a load of DVD's and Videotapes.

"Laura has quite a collection of suitable films that I want you to watch during the week. They will help you understand a little bit more of what femininity involves at every level. Some of them are quite good".

I could not make out any of the titles but no doubt I would soon become familiar with them. Georgie sat back down and handed me another sheet of laminated paper.

"These magazines are the ones you should concentrate on from now on. Tomorrow I'll bring over some back copies but for tonight you should have a browse through the one's Laura has under the coffee table".

As she handed me a list I noted some of the titles as one's I had purchased before when I wanted to know a little about what women were supposed to be about. They were all the usual high street glossy fashion mags and there must have been at least two-dozen on this list.

Georgie tapped in some more keys on the palm top PC. Then she gave me a final sheet of the laminated paper

"This page gives you a list of websites I want you to access this week. They are women's lifestyle sites, virtual makeup studios. Laura said it's okay to use the PC in her room"

As I digested the web sites I wondered what exactly they would contain. Georgie started packing some of the paperwork back in to the case.

"With the make up sites I want you to scan in your own photo and start experimenting with colours. But don't worry about that just right now, I'll take your photo tomorrow morning then we can download it later".

I was pleased about that but I still needed to know why I was getting all the attention? I looked at Georgie and decided to bite the bullet.

"Georgie – why are you all doing this for me?"

She sat back and said nothing. Then she took my hand and spoke

"Oh Sally. I knew we'd get round to this eventually. Okay here's how it is. Karen is my older sister. We also had a young brother, Daniel. He should really have been born a girl but nature dictated otherwise. Karen and I knew from the start that Daniel wanted to be like us. Girls know that sort of thing. We didn't shun him, as he reached his early twenties he found things very difficult to work out. We did what we could to help him. And, for the first time in his life he was happy"

She paused for a moment as if recalling the past

"Anyway, five years ago Daniel was killed in a car accident. Karen still hasn't gotten over it. The room you stayed in at her house was Daniel's. All those beautiful clothes were his. That's why they all fitted you. Surely you must have wondered?"

I felt a little sad and wished I'd never asked the question. But Georgie wanted me to know everything

"Karen still buys clothes in that size and keeps them in the wardrobe. She hasn't cleared the room because she's been waiting for someone like you. There have been a few guys in the shop buying clothes before - it's more common than you might think. But when she rang me the other day and told me about you I could tell by her excitement that she wanted to do for you what she could not complete for Daniel"

Again a short pause

"I know you're upset about the photo thing. I told Karen not to take them but she so wanted you to stay. If you only knew how much we want to help you with this?"

When she had finished we both and said nothing until Georgie leaned forward and spoke quietly

"That is it Sally. Don't let Karen's manner put you off. She has to be sure that you really want to do this. It is as important for her as it is for you. You've had a whirlwind introduction Sally but we both know you are going to be far happier living as a female than you could ever be as a male".

I wanted to hug her and felt so much better now I knew their motivation. I offered an apology for doubting them.

. I wanted to do it for all of us.

"I'm sorry for having some doubts Georgie"

In return she smiled and said

"We all do at times. We wouldn't be human if we didn't. Now, tomorrow is makeup day"

My previous impression of Karen as being somewhat intimidating was now shot out of the water with the revelations. I decided to fully embrace my once in a lifetime opportunity – all my previous doubts had now vanished.

I looked up from the paperwork I had been given.

"Makeup day?" I enquired

"Yes Sally. Tomorrow we are going to spend the day instructing you in the correct application of cosmetics. All day"

Georgie got up, closed down the pocket PC and put it back in her handbag. The document wallet was put back inside the vanity case and finally she put her jacket back on.

From the floor she picked up the bright coral coloured heels that were the perfect co-ordinate for her suit. She held them out to me and said

"Come on Sally, show me how you put shoes on a lady"

Fortunately I remembered having to do this a few times on my first day in the shoe department. I took the shoes from her and knelt beside her. Carefully I lifted her stocking leg just above her ankle then pushed the shoe gently until her small foot was safely inside. I did the same with the second one then stood up.

"Thank you Sally, you're very good."

She lifted the case and the handbag and left me with the parting shot

"Remember I've taken hundred of young women through makeup and beauty courses so you can expect me to be quite demanding. All I ask is that you do your best to take in what I'm going to teach you".

Her job as a trainer of flight attendants came rushing back to me. From what I had seen of flight attendants they were required to use quite strong makeup - and a lot of it to boot.

She motioned that I should escort her to the front door then stopped just as she was about to leave.

"Make sure you have a good cleanse tonight and don't put on any makeup in the morning. I'll see you about nine o'clock. And I will expect your questionnaire completed by the time I arrive. Sleep well Sally"

With that she was gone. I closed the door behind me and locked it using the key that was in the lock.

Back in the lounge I looked down at the items she had left with me. The booklet that contained the questions looked very bulky all of a sudden. I lifted it and noticed there were over 100 questions for me to complete by ticking an option in a box.

The first question appeared innocuous enough; "Do you carry items in your pockets?" with the options, "Yes", "No", or "Sometimes".

I put it on the coffee table with the rest of the forms then I sat down and undid the clasps on the sandals I'd been wearing and took them off. My feet rejoiced at the relief of pressure.

After a moment I decided to take off the dress and, after a brief struggle trying to get my fingers to locate the back zip fastening, I stood in the lounge wearing only my underwear.

I needed to shower and take off the makeup. My major concern was unpinning the fake ponytail without either damaging it or hurting myself. Slowly I lifted the dress and sandals, and then I picked up all the stuff Georgie had left me and took everything with me back to my room.

As I passed by Laura's room the fact that she had not re-appeared surprised me. I thought she would have been out as soon as Georgie had gone. But they were under strict instructions not to interfere in the training.

My mind wanted to see if she was still awake. But I decided against interrupting her and went off to remove my makeup and have a shower.

I woke up at seven o'clock with Laura leaning over me looking just a little agitated. I sat up in bed and wondered what the commotion was?

She was already dressed for work in Hannah Sadler's and the black waistcoat she wore had her name badge on the left lapel.

"Come on Sally – you need to get ready!"

I still had two hours before Georgie arrived to start my training proper so I did not quite see the problem until Laura thrust the wardrobe planner in my face

"What are you going to wear today Sally?"

I pushed myself out of the bed as Laura handed me the laminated sheet. I had forgotten it would take me a good hour or so to get dressed.

"Laura, I'm sorry I..."

"Never mind sorry. Just pick an outfit and get yourself ready. I have to go to work now so good luck! And don't tell Georgie I had to wake you up!"

With that she was out of my bedroom and heading down the hall, shouting as she opened the front door

"I won't lock the door Sally. Georgie has my only spare set of keys. We can get you some cut later this week"

I decided to take another shower and remembered to shave my legs and arms. Once I was dry I looked at the planner and wondered what my choice would be.

Ten minutes later I just went for option one – 'Girl About Town'

From the wardrobe I picked out a fine ribbed black polo neck jumper (it wasn't too heavy for the time of year), a white A-line skirt that would rest just above my knees, a wide 'circle' belt, which had large black hoops around it, and a pair of black patent leather court shoes with a gold buckle detail which caught my eye. A black handbag with gold rivets would complete my dress for the day.

The lingerie drawer offered up a black silk bodyshaper which being a one-piece outfit meant I did not have to worry about panties. The cups on the upper part of the bodyshaper were a size 'B' so I figured there was no need to use the breast enhancers I'd worn yesterday.

Although my legs were smooth again I chose a pair of very glossy nude 'hold-up' stockings to give my legs a real shine. Now I was ready to get dressed.

At a quarter past eight I stepped into the kitchen and made a coffee. As the kettle boiled I remembered that I had not completed the questionnaire. I ran back along the hall to get it. Running in heels, even low ones, was not as easy as I had first envisaged.

When I got back to the kitchen I started to answer the questions as honestly as I could. As the last question was answered I put the booklet down then finished my now cold cup of coffee.

Glancing up at the kitchen clock I noted it was five minutes to nine. I looked out the kitchen window to see if there was any sign of the car Georgie drove. Nothing yet.

I smoothed out my skirt and adjusted the sleeves of the jumper. I noted the illusion of a bust under the jumper and put my hand against the left cup of the bra. I could feel my own chest inside the cup. There wasn't much there, the cup was not full by any means - but the bra did somehow fold the flesh into the impression of a breast. I had to admit it did make me feel good in a thrilling sort of way.

My eyes glanced down at my feet. The highly polished black patent shoes gave off a wonderful shine, which I found could be improved by lifting one foot out and swinging the shoe back and forth in the sunlight.

This daydreaming was brought to an abrupt end when I heard the front door open and Georgie came marching in to the kitchen.

She wore a classic black linen sleeveless shift dress to which she had added a thin red leather belt around the waist. Around her neck a red silk scarf had been tied with a bow on the left side of her neck. Her red sling back shoes sported a devilishly pointed toe that made me wonder how comfortable they would be to wear.

Her blonde hair was tied back away from her face and secured with a large red-rose hair clip. To complete her look she worn bright red lipstick and what looked like several coats of mascara.

She put her large handbag and a white box on the kitchen table and it was only then I noticed she was carrying a dry-cleaning bag, the type you would keep a dress or suit in when travelling.

Georgie handed me the bag and started to inspect the standard of my turn out. When she nodded her approval it made me feel better.

"A good choice Sally. Very classy. But you're not going to need it for today"

I stood there holding the bag and she smiled

"I thought I'd better bring along a little something for you to wear while we do the makeup lessons".

She motioned I should open the bag.

After unzipping the bag I placed it on the table and held aloft the item she wanted me to wear during the day. It was a sky blue flight attendants uniform complete with a cream blouse and brightly coloured matching scarf. There was also a hat and gloves to complete the 'look'.

Georgie held it up for me to get a better view. The jacket looked very fitted indeed and the skirt was so thin I wondered what size the uniform was.

"It might be a little bit tight on you but we want you to fit in with the rest of the girls"

I looked at her and wondered what she meant by 'rest of the girls'?

She noted my bewilderment

"I've managed to find you a place on one of the courses. It's better you experience the art of makeup with other women. That is why you need the uniform. I've told the other trainees that you missed this part of the course due to illness. That way they won't ask you any awkward questions."

Now the uniform made sense. Georgie seen that I looked a little crestfallen at having to change outfit.

"There's nothing wrong with what you've got on. It really does suit you. However, if you are to join my class you must look the part. And it'll be fun to see what you look like as a flight attendant!"

Then she suddenly remembered the box she had brought in with her

"Oh, nearly forgot – wear these shoes with the uniform"

I was handed the uniform and the white box. I opened the box to reveal a pair of black court shoes that sported a very high heel. How did flight attendants cope with having to wear shoes with such heels?

Georgie spotted the questionnaire lying on the kitchen table.

"Now be dear and go and change. We have to be at the training centre before ten and I still need to do your makeup before we leave. Is this your questionnaire? I'll have a look while you get dressed."

I left her in the kitchen and went back to my room in order to change. My assumption that the lesson would take place in the flat was well and truly off the mark.

Thankfully the black bodyshaper I had chosen helped me get the skirt and jacket on without too much of a struggle. The skirt was tight and I only just managed to button up the jacket.

My attempt to tie the scarf in the same way Georgie did hers was pretty poor and as I stepped into the heels I heard Georgie arrive in my room.

"Ready then?" she asked, putting her handbag on the bed.

I nodded but she came over and re-did the scarf for me, dispensing with the bow and tying it in a simple not under my chin.

"That's how this scarf is supposed to be worn. It's not really a scarf, more a tie," she told me.

I stood in the room decked out as an air stewardess. Georgie produced a digital camera from her handbag and pointed to one side of the room.

"Now stand over there and I'll get your picture for the websites"

She took a close up of my bare face and then stood back and took another of me in full shot.

Satisfied that she had the pictures she needed to send to the websites Georgie told me to sit at the dressing table while she went and downloaded the image to Laura's PC.

I carefully eased myself into the seat. The skirt was indeed the tightest I'd worn and it looked even shorter when you sat down.

What seemed like an eternity was in fact less than half an hour. Georgie returned to my room this time carrying the large vanity case I had seen yesterday.

"Take off your jacket Sally, I need you to be comfortable", she said as she produced a white smock from the case then tied it round me.

"We don't want any accidents do we? Now, let's get you ready. I'm only going to give you the minimum coverage as you'll be taking it all off again when we get to class"

From the vanity she removed the top section and lifted a tray of cosmetics, which she placed on the dressing table. I looked in amazement at the range of colours and the different shaped tubes, bottles and pencils. Every type of makeup I'd ever seen was there. Not to mention quite a few other things I had no idea what purpose they served.

She worked quickly and within half an hour I was looking at the reflection of my lightly made-up face

As she brushed my hair and re-attached the ponytail she explained the reason for the change of outfit

Back in the lounge I was given standard flight attendants handbag, white gloves and sky blue hat. I took them from her and put the hat on my head and pulled the gloves over my hands. She smiled as I placed the handbag over my shoulder.

"Good, now lets go to school!"

When I entered the training room I saw eight young women already sitting at their desks. All had the same uniform as me.

Each desk resembled a dressing table. They had a large mirror trimmed with a series of lights. A large selection of cosmetics was laid out in trays in front of the mirror.

Georgie sat me in the front row and made my introduction

"Girls, this is Sally. She will be joining us today for makeup class so please make her welcome"

All the girls smiled and the one sitting next to me put out her hand

"Hello, I'm Jenny, pleased to meet you Sally."

I shook her hand and felt a little more comfortable.

Georgie stood in front of us and started the day

"First rule - you need a good light to apply your makeup in. Helps avoid mistakes. Now girls please switch on the mirror lights, you'll find the switch at the bottom left hand side".

When we powered up the lights I could see what she meant. They were powerful and my face appeared almost blanched in their glow.

It was made very clear to us that cleansing; toning and moisturising were every day essentials

"Before you can create a masterpiece you require a flawless canvas to begin with"

Georgie then started a small video film on how to correctly prepare your face before the application of makeup. We all watched intently and when it finished she told us to carry out the routine step-by-step.

I cleansed, toned then moisturised.

When we had all finished she walked up and down the row of desks checking the each of our efforts.

We worked right through lunch as Georgie instructed us on the finer points of makeup. She explained what each product was called and how it was best used. I found out about colouring and skin tone, what shades would not go with others, what shades would best match my own features

Georgie held up a small plastic card and told us

"This check list details the company policy. Our basic dress code requires that each of you wear exactly twenty makeup items each day" I know it sounds a lot but beauty is not just skin deep. I suggest you all keep this card in your bags at all times".

Some of the products on the list were familiar, other were not.

The rest of the morning followed a similar pattern. Georgie would either demonstrate by overhead slide show, or video film and we all carried out the routine we had just been instructed on.

Several times she watched me apply a foundation, remove it then try again. I said that I found it easier using my fingertips rather than the sponge but was told to get used to both methods.

Face powder was another product that was termed an essential. It would prevent shine and can also help 'set' your foundation.

Eye makeup presented a further set of trials. Georgie demonstrated how to correctly apply liquid eyeliner by first marking three dots of the pen to the middle and corners of the upper lid. I was then to connect the dots by drawing a fine line of colour on the lid. It took three attempts before she gave me her approval.

Eye shadows could be used as a single colour or combined to create dramatic effects. Many brands came in trios that you were supposed to apply to different areas of the lid and socket to give the desired effect. Most were powders but you could also get them as a crθme in what appeared to be lipstick form.

Mascara was equally mystifying at first. My conception had always been that it came only in black, but Georgie was quick to show me a variety of hues such as purple, blue, brown and even one that looked like silver. They came as waterproof, lash lengthening, curling and thickening types. All came with a small brush-like wand to help you apply it correctly. If you had fewer lashes on your lower lid then you should not use mascara – use an eye pencil instead.

Georgie even said that an essential item for any women was a selection of coloured contact lenses. Then you could use eye makeup that would look 'wrong' on your natural colour but give you a lift when worn with lenses.

Eyebrow shaping looked both painful and difficult. The video we watched showed us that despite the pain the end results were beautifully arched brows.

Lipstick was no less complicated. Again you had a rainbow of shades and textures to choose from. We all had the opportunity to apply a selection of the shades sitting on our worktops. Some I applied in the 'traditional way', others required the use of a small sponge applicator, and I was introduced to a lip brush for the first time.

On the technique side I was shown how to use a lip liner and the correct way to blot ones lips.

A little after one o'clock we stopped for lunch. Georgie picked up her handbag then reminded us

"Hats and gloves on girls and don't forget you bags"

She then escorted us to the canteen where and we managed to find a table big enough to accommodate all of us. We all linked arms as we laughed about the morning lessons.

Jenny sat beside me and was very excited about the prospects of graduating as a flight attendant.

"I've always wanted to do this every since I was a little girl. How about you Sally?"

I nodded and thought it best to keep up the pretence.

After what appeared to be a very short lunch break we started on the afternoon session.

Georgie handed out each of us a set of acrylic fingernails and the tube of glue to affix them. We were to team up and apply a set of nails to each other. I was thankful that Jenny did me first. I watched in fascination as she glued the tip on the end of each nail then filed it down to the best size.

When she had finished I started to carry out the same procedure on her.

Only now I had an extra length of fingernail to contend with and that made it just a little more challenging.

When we had all finished we had to hold out our new nails for inspection. Georgie took my hand and closely examined the extensions. She looked pleased.

"Now girls the way to a perfect polish is a good base coat, then your varnish then a top coat"

For the next twenty minutes a silence descended on the room as we all applied nail polish. I chose a baby pink shade and was pleasantly surprised at just how feminine my hands now looked.

By late afternoon we all conformed to the company standard by the application of make up. I had never worn so much before but was forced to admit we really were living dolls.

At the end of the day Georgie printed off a certificate for each of us. The trainee flight attendants needed them as part of a portfolio of qualifications they would need to graduate.

Georgie handed me the document and whispered in my ear

"You can get this framed Sally".

When she had finished handing out the diplomas Georgie addressed the class once more

"Okay girls, well done. That was good work today. Tomorrow is deportment day. Class will begin at ten o'clock so early to bed".

The girls gathered their things and started to leave.

On her way out Jenny turned to me and said

"See you tomorrow Sally?"

"Yes", I replied without actually knowing if I was required to attend.

Soon only Georgie and I were left in the room. She packed away her things in the bag and switched off the electrics.

"Come on Sally, let's get you home"

I got up and put my bag over my shoulder and my hat on my head. Then followed her back to the car.

Within the hour I was back home and had changed into the white A-line skirt and black jumper, freshened up my makeup and finally added some bangles and a neck chain.

As I dressed I found the nail extensions a bit tricky to come to terms with, especially when doing up a zip or button. I would have to learn to get used to it.

I selected the 'Allure' perfume and sprayed it on my wrists and behind my ears in the same way I had observed the other do.

The flight attendants uniform I returned to the hanger and put it on the back of the door.

Back in the lounge I found Georgie tapping away on her hand-held PC.

"That was very good today Sally. You will need to practise and learn to slow down a touch though," she said encouragingly.

I recognised the questionnaire I had completed earlier

"You scored well on this" she enthused as she packed away her things.

When she was ready I helped her to the door with the vanity case. She turned just before leaving and said

Georgie smiled then leaned forward to indicate that I was to give her a 'girly' peck on the cheek. I did and she smiled. Then she was off down the path to her car.

I stood at the door and welcomed the breeze that lifted my skirt ever so slightly. Georgie started up the car and I waved her goodbye. Don't ask me why but I felt like the housewife waving her husband off to work.

The clock showed just after six and I wondered what time Laura would get home. I picked up the copy of Marie Clare that lay under the coffee table and started to browse through the fashion pages.

When Laura did arrive home I saw that she was carrying a selection of parcels. I got up and helped her carry the packages in to the lounge.

She put her handbag down looked at my outfit and asked

"So how was your first day then?"

I told her about the day at the training school and she was eager to find out every last detail. She wanted to inspect my new nails and complemented me on the results.

"These parcels are for you Sally. Karen managed to get you a couple of shop uniforms for you that you're to wear on Saturday. And she's going to arrange for your interview early on Saturday morning".

I was handed a large sized catalogue and Laura told me it was the Hannah Sadler range.

"Karen said you should give this a good look over before Saturday. You might be asked some questions about our styles".

I put the product the book down as she started to open the packages and handed me the items. It was the same stuff she wore only no trousers.

"I'm sure once you get full time Karen will relax the no trouser rule. It's not as if they even look like men's ones is it?"

Holding up the company black A-line mini skirt I nodded. There were also two white blouses with pink trim and the company initials on the short sleeves, a waistcoat, a jacket and a longer length skirt.

"You'll still get a clothing allowance once you go full time. These are just spare things that were lying around in the staff room".

I stood up and Laura helped me take the clothes in to my room. She waited until I'd hung up the items before commenting on the air stewardess uniform that was on the back of the door.

"Is this your uniform? It looks very tight if you don't mind me saying"

"It is tight" I replied. "And tomorrow is deportment day" I added.

She giggled

"Oh poor Sally. I'd hate having to walk up and down all day in such a tight skirt – and I bet your heels are huge too?"

"Four and a half inches" I replied

Again she giggled. She said she would make us some dinner and proceeded to tell me what had gone on in the shop during the day.

That evening we settled down to watch 'Legally Blonde' during which time Laura commented

"I love that Reese Witherspoon, don't you?"

I agreed but I wished I had her clothes too.

On Tuesday morning I managed to get up without the aid of Laura.

Back in the bedroom I put the uniform back on, sat at the dresser and did my makeup and brushed my hair as best I could.

Georgie arrived on time and we headed back to school.

As she pulled in to the allotted parking space she reassured me

"Don't worry Sally – this is the last day you have to come here"

Our heels clicked on the ground as we headed into the main building. It wasn't going to be the last time I would here that sound today. From the corner of my eye I noted two men admiring our wiggles. That made me feel special.

Deportment day sounded like torture and it was. Georgie said it was the most vital part of the entire course as we all had a duty to become beautiful, successful, well balanced and well taken care of women of the world.

In turn we were shown how to adopt the proper way to sit, walk and stand like a lady. How to fix your makeup, smooth out the line of your clothes and, open you handbag in a public place. In fact just about everything. Even lifting cutlery was a choreographed ritual.

The walking element was the most rigorous and several times Georgie had to rebuke me because I still wasn't walking the way she had shown us. The pink ruffled blouse oozed femininity but she only had to give you a look to dispel any myth about her being sweet and gentle all the time.

"You put one foot in front of the other – that's directly in front, not at the side" she would chide as she placed her pointed foot out in a demonstration.

Again I tried but it was not that easy to put your foot right in front of the other every time you took a step. The very tight skirt did not help matters either.

I had seen this style of walking being used by models on the catwalk. It looked easy when they did it but I was still new to heels and I was going to have to try even harder than before.

Fortunately I was not the only one who found it difficult. One or two others felt the sharp tongue of Georgie in angry mode.

One of the girls left the room in tears and I felt sorry for her. I knew how she must be feeling and just hoped I could restrain my emotions enough not to do the same.

When I got home I felt drained. Georgie came in with me and gave me a hug.

"You did fine today Sally. We can't be right first time at everything" she comforted me.

"Now why don't you change out of that uniform and fix your makeup. I'll pour us a nice glass of wine"

I nodded and went off to change.

The wardrobe planner choice for Tuesday offered a 'casual' option so I chose a very soft floaty skirt and a loose fitting top. On my feet I selected a pair of flip-flops with a large fake rose that covered the top of the toes.

When I returned to the lounge I felt a little better. The wine was chilled and we sat down to discuss the day in more detail.

"Your photo will be downloaded on the websites by now, you can have a go later one tonight".

Georgie said between sips of her drink.

I had all but forgotten the events yesterday when Georgie had taken my full-face photo and sent it to several virtual reality beauty sites.

We chatted for about ten minutes as Georgie wanted to know more about my background. I told her I was the youngest of three children that they and my parents knew nothing of my cross dressing and would probably disown me if they ever found out.

Georgie put her glass down before speaking

"They'll never find out Sally. As matter of fact I doubt they would ever recognise you in the street"

That was probably true but I reminded her that I would recognise them and would dread ever seeing them just in case I panicked.

She wanted to know if I had a job?

"No, I'm unemployed at the moment. Unless you count the shop that it"

It was then Georgie dropped a bombshell

"Don't you have to sign on at the exchange then?"

She was right. With the rush of the last few days I'd forgotten that I had to sign for my benefit every two weeks. And I was due to do so tomorrow.

Georgie told me not to panic. We could visit the employment office tomorrow

"You'll have to sign off anyway Sally. Once you go full time at Hannah Sadler Fashions you'll have to give them your national insurance number in order to get paid".

I had not reckoned on that problem.

"I don't have any of my male clothes left!" I told her.

"Good. You don't need them to sign off do you?"

"But" I interrupted

Georgie put her glass down

"You are Sally full time now – remember? It's none of their business what you look like when you go tomorrow. You're saving them money so they don't care".

She got up to leave.

"Right I best be getting off home myself. Your little diversion shouldn't take too long so it won't mess up my plans that much."

As I escorted her to the door she hugged me once more and then left me alone in the flat.

"Remember tomorrow is Wednesday so make sure you wear exactly what's on the planner, oh and you might consider tidying up you eyebrows a touch".

It was true my eyebrows were a little too bushy and I said I would do that tonight. We had covered eyebrow shaping on the beauty day so I did feel confident that I could do a good job on them.

In the bedroom I found the planner and looked to see what Wednesday would require. Instead of the 'theme' that covered choice days it was a detailed list of what clothes I was to put on.

Well it would certainly give my employment advisor a shock, I laughed to myself.

The fifth day of my life as Sally began with the usual shower but I decided to give my legs and arms a very close shave just to keep them hair free.

By the time I got to my dressing table I felt fresh and ready to go. I sat back in the chair and looked again at my clothes planner. I would do my very best makeup I though to myself. Hopefully I had not forgotten the lessons from Monday and I got to work preparing my face.

I wanted a less-is-more look and chose carefully the colours and products I wanted to wear. With my wet hair tucked in under a towel I got to work on my face.

After a good forty minutes I sat back and looked at my handiwork. Three coats of mascara was the answer I said to myself.

After blow-drying my hair I managed to fix the ponytail without too much trouble. A quick brush, a spray of lacquer and a pretty hair clip later and I was finished.

I went to the wardrobe and looked for the clothes Georgie had listed on the planner. I assumed she knew what items were in the wardrobe and after a minute or two I found what I was looking for.

The lingerie store bag, which contained the two corsets, was still by my bedside drawer. For a second I wondered if I should wear one of them today? I lifted the pink one out then noticed all the lacing and fastenings. I thought I'd never manage that on my own so from my lingerie drawer I selected a sheer lace firm control bodyshaper instead. I put it on, adjusted the straps.

I decided to insert the breast enhancers in the cups and then slipped a pair of flesh coloured hold up stockings on my newly smooth legs.

I picked up the skirt Georgie wanted me to wear. It was red with white polka dots. And it was rubber. Not the cheap variety – the very expensive type.I managed to pull it on and zipped up the back. If I'd thought the flight attendant skirt was tight then this was even more so as it finished a few inches below the knee.

The jacket was a shade of powder blue and was also very fitted. Thankfully it was not rubber I thought to myself as I did up the front buttons.

A pair of peep-toe, sling-back heels were next and a red/white handbag completed the outfit

The nameplate on the desk said Miss Jayne Ashbridge – Employment Advisor. Jayne Ashbridge was in her early twenties but dressed as if she was much older. Frumpy sprung to mind.

Since I'd first started claiming benefits she was my 'advisor' but to date she had not found me suitable work. Her manner at times was intimidating and she had an obvious dislike of me from day one.

The look on her face now was priceless. She had not recognised me when I came in with Georgie and she looked dumbstruck when she realised it was in fact me in the red skirt and heels. It must have been the sassy way I swung my hips that distracted her.

As she prepared my paperwork I teasingly crossed my legs, allowing the upper one to swing up and down in order to show off my heels.

As she finished writing she put the form in front of me and said

"If you just sign this declaration. And I'll need a forwarding address to send your tax documents to you"

I took the pen from her and held it in my highly polished fingers. As I confirmed my intention to stop claiming I could see her looking at me in a mixture of disbelief and shock.

"There you are Miss Ashbridge," I said softly and in my most womanly voice as I handed back the paperwork.

She took it and checked it over. As she read she spoke

"You say your hoping to start full time employment soon?"

"Yes" I said "I have an interview with Hannah Sadler Fashions this Saturday"

Again she was taken aback. I looked down at her shoes and noticed how plain they were in comparison to mine.

"The fashion store?" she enquired

"Of course"

Georgie leaned forward in her chair and broke her silence

"You have heard of it then? Sally is going to make a great sales assistant you know. Perhaps she'll serve you one day?"

Miss Ashbridge did not know what to say

"Quite", was her reply.

I allowed my lips to run over my made up mouth. I was enjoying this and would never forget the expression on her usually smug face.

We got up to leave and I made a special effort to smooth out my skirt. Because it was rubber my hands created a small squeaking sound, which I wanted Miss Ashbridge to notice.

Back in Georgie's car we both burst out laughing.

"See that wasn't so bad was it?" Georgie said wiping a tear from her eye.

I nodded and she started up the engine

"Now, lets get started" she said as we moved off towards the city centre.

I had still not be told what the day entailed but assumed it meant spending the majority of it out and about. Perhaps she wanted to give me more experience outside as opposed to the classroom?

As we drove she started the conversation with

"Do you think you can be a complete woman if you don't fancy men?"

This startled me. I was happy as Sally and loved the clothes and everything but I did not 'fancy' other men.

Before I could think of an answer she spoke again

"Oh don't worry Sally! I'm not taking you out man hunting! Just curious that's all. Although you're bound to attract attention when you're out"

I glanced down at the red skirt and found myself agreeing with the remark. And had I not already 'flirted' in the disco?

As we got out the car she finished what she was saying

"You just keep up the good work Sally and you'll have no trouble convincing the world that you are a fully functional female. Now lets go shopping!"

We came out of the car park and entered the large shopping centre. This was my first girls shopping trip and Georgie was determined that I was going to enjoy it.

Our first stop was the large branch of Debenhams department store. I had visited it before but only to look never to buy. We headed straight to the second floor where many of the other high street chains had small concessions.

Georgie stopped at a rail and lifted a dress

"How about this?" She said holding it up for me

I took the dress and shook my head. To me it looked too tarty and I told her so.

She put it back and fished about the rail for other dresses and motioned for me to do the same.

Putting my handbag over my shoulder I started browsing the clothes rails, lifting the occasional item for a closer inspection when something did catch my eye.

When we moved into the next concession Georgie insisted I go and try on a glamorous evening gown. It was full length with a ruffled hem and lacy bodice. The delicate spaghetti straps ran down the cut away back. I had never before worn such a dress and I said my skirt was difficult to put on let alone take off.

But she insisted I go and put it on and I headed to the changing rooms with her in close attendance.

After a minor struggle I managed to get down to my underwear and then slipped the dress over my head. It felt light and very expensive as I straightened out the straps. I stepped out of the cubicle and Georgie let out a gasp of approval

"Oh my, that is just you Sally!"

When I turned the hem swirled round with me and I had to admit the dress felt fabulous.

The price tag was £250 and I wondered if Georgie was considering buy it for me? She must have realised my thoughts and I was a little disappointed when she shook her head and said

"Sorry Sally. Today we're trying not buying!"

I nodded and went back to change out of the gown. This disappointment would be repeated more than once on this shopping trip.

As we made our way through the store we each tried on several items. Some looked good other looked awful. Georgie was happy to see that I was really enjoying the fun of trying on clothes – even if we didn't buy anything.

It was just as much fun when we visited the shoe stores. I watched attentively as young women tried shoes on me. I hoped when I returned to work I was as professional as some of the girls helping me now.

Georgie would nod or shake her head as I stepped out in a variety of styles. I became aware that she only every nodded when I was teetering around in enormous heels. Whenever I tried on 'sensible' shoes she simply shook her head.

She took me to the designer shops too. Outside some they had a concierge who was there to limit who did or did not get in to the store. I paused outside wondering if we would be allowed in.

Georgie whispered in my ear

"Sally that skirt you're wearing cost over four hundred pounds and so did the rest of your outfit. If anyone's getting in here it's us"

We strolled past the doorman and entered the shop. With the exception of a young lady we were the only other customers in the store.

The other customer noticed my skirt and she smiled at me in approval.

"That's a Louis Vuitton isn't it? she enquired.

I nodded as she came over for a closer look. I had heard the name before and knew most young women would covet such designer clothes.

" I'd die for a skirt like that! What's it like to wear? – Being rubber I mean"

I smoothed a hand down the skirt and said

"It's a dream"

She nodded and added

"You'd normally run a mile from something rubber wouldn't you? But that is quality. You are so so lucky"

I thanked her and she went back to the dress she was looking at.

Georgie motioned me over to where she was browsing and I stepped carefully across the highly polished floor to join her.

The dress she was looking at on the mannequin was a terrific sun dress/ afternoon dress in heavy grey cotton with pink floral and rhinestone appliquιs. It had a fitted, square neck and a side metal zipper on the full skirt.

A price tag told me it was a thousand pounds and when I felt the material I realised why.

As I changed into the dress I took special care not to damage it in any way but thankfully the zip was on the side and I had no problem doing myself up.

I stepped out of the changing room and twirled round to see the full effect of the skirt. Georgie nodded her approval too.

I wanted that dress so much but knew it was way above our budget. Reluctantly I asked Georgie to help me take it off.

As she ushered me back to the changing area she whispered

"One day".

I put the dress back on the rail and wondered how many other girls had tried it on and longed to take it home with them?

After a break for coffee Georgie said we should head to one of the makeup counters that offered free makeovers. I though I looked fine but she said it would be helpful to get an independent assessment of what my 'colouring' was.

We made our way along the rows of shops then Georgie stopped and dragged me into a small jewellery store

"Come on let's get those ears of yours pierced!" she exclaimed as we entered the shop.

The shop assistant was more than happy to go to work on me with her piercing gun. I sat down and waited for the pain that I was sure would accompany the procedure.

Georgie went off to find me some new earrings as the first shock of pain hit my left ear. The second pull of the gun was equally sore but then it was over.

When Georgie returned she paid for both the piercing and the two sets of earrings she had chosen. As I got to my feet she inserted a pair of gold hoop earrings into my ears. I was thankful that the hoops were on the small side and thanked her for the gift.

The second pair was given to me and I popped them in my handbag as Georgie headed towards the makeup department of Boots.

There had always been something intimidating about makeup departments. Everything was white even the uniforms worn by the assistants. I had ventured into such places before but was too terrified to even stop and look at any product displays.

This time was different. We looked at the various ranges. Stopping to try a lipstick or a foundation. Georgie took me over to one of the counters where they had sales assistants. I noted that she had an enormous amount of makeup and some considerable fake tan.

Georgie selected a lipstick from the display and opened it up to test some of it on the back of her index finger. She looked at me and said

"When trying a new lipstick Sally use the inside of your finger rather than the back of your hand. Most women make that mistake you know then wonder why the shade they've just bought isn't what they expected,"

She applied a small amount of the tester lipstick on my finger then held it up for the sales assistant to see.

"Do you think this shade will suit my friend here?" she asked.

The sales assistant looked at the bright lilac colour and shook her head before speaking

"No, it's too pale. She'd be much better with a slightly lighter shade. In fact the one she's wearing just now looks fine"

I felt a little elated that my personal choice of lip colour had met the approval of a total stranger. But I knew Georgie was showing me how a woman would try out new makeup in a department store situation. She continued to ask the sales assistant for alternatives.

"Yes, it's fine but you must have something a little more exciting?" she said.

The assistant nodded then selected another lipstick, a deeper purple shade, and opened it up for me to try.

I put it on the inside of my finger and held it up to the light for them to see.

Georgie did not seem convinced and shook her head. I put the lipstick back on the display and the staff assistant came out from behind the counter to try another colour.

I watched as she looked at me then back to the product ranges. She selected another lipstick and asked

"Do you normally wear such light shades?" she asked, referring to the almost nude gloss I had chosen for my 'look' that morning.

It was Georgie who spoke for me

"She normally likes rich reds and deep berry shades – but I've told her to try something less dramatic, especially for daytime."

I nodded as the assistant handed me a tissue and asked if I would mind wiping off the colour I was currently wearing. I took the tissue and removed what I could of the lipstick then turned to face her as she approached with a very pale lilac shade, which she said was called' luscious'. It certainly looked incredibly inviting.

As I puckered up she carefully applied the colour to my lips. The texture was very creamy but had no perfume. She stood back and looked at Georgie to see what her reaction would be.

I looked in the mirror and was taken aback by the subtle shade now lining my mouth. Georgie nodded her agreement and began chatting with the assistant. They spoke for less than a minute before Georgie asked me to step up into the chair because

"You're going to have a makeover"

I got up into the chair and the staff assistant went to work using a selection of colours from what she said was the new summer palette. She explained that, as my existing makeup was quite light, she would simply 'add' to the effect.

As she worked I noticed she spent a great deal of time with my eyes. There was plenty of liner and mascara being used as she pointed out

"The beauty of a lighter shade of lip colour is that you can really go to town with the eyes," she said enthusiastically.

Twenty or so minutes later and I was finished and allowed to see the new me for the first time.

My lashes and inner lid felt wet with the application of the eye makeup. I was terrified to blink in case I left marks all down my cheeks. But I had to admit my eyes looked fantastic.

It was Georgie who insisted on buying all the products that had just been applied to my face. I was handed the carrier bag and soon we were back in the street.

It was after three in the afternoon when Georgie suggested we call into Hannah Sadler's and see how the girls were getting on.

When we entered the shop it was Miss Roberts who came over to greet us. She looked at my clothes and managed a smile

"My, that is an outfit Sally".

From the shoe department Cindy waved over to me. She was busy assisting a customer, so I simply waved back.

As Georgie told Miss Roberts about our day I went over to where Laura was putting back some clothes on the rails.

Laura looked pleased to see me and complimented me on my makeup. I held up the carrier bag and said

"Georgie bought me all the makeup too!"

She had a quick glance inside the bag and looked thrilled.

I excitedly told her about the designer dress

"I so wanted that dress Laura," I said with more than a hint of anguish.

She smiled in sympathy and replied

"Every girl gets that feeling with a new dress, you're no different Sally"

I nodded. Laura had the effect of always saying the sensible thing to me. She asked me how the rest of my day had been and I flashed my newly pierced ears in her direction.

"At last! fantastic Sally. I've got loads of lovely earrings you can borrow!"

Laura finished re-arranging the clothes then walked me back to where Miss Roberts and Georgie were chatting. As we walked Laura gave me more news

"Listen, I've got a day off on Friday. Perhaps we could do a spot of sunbathing if the weather holds?"

I was not sure what Friday was going to involve training wise but I did not want to say no right away.

Laura looked at me then went on

"Oh don't worry, I've got a spare bikini and things you can have!"

Georgie overheard the last comment and Laura told her and Miss Roberts of her idea

"I was asking Sally if she wanted to work on a tan this Friday? If that's not going to disrupt your schedule Georgie?"

I looked at Georgie as she replied

"Well, Sally and I should be finished by mid afternoon on Friday so if you want to why not. In fact why not drive down to the beach?"

Laura was extremely happy

"Great idea Georgie. It's a pity poor Cindy can't come with us"

Miss Roberts shook her head and told Laura that someone had to keep the shop running

"Even if you girls are off sunning yourselves!" she reminded us.

The prospect of 'working on a tan' was new to me. I tried to imagine what my swimsuit would be like.

I was half way through my training and with each new adventure I was becoming more and more confident. I was really enjoying being a woman.

I knew I was going to enjoy the rest of the week and beyond…
