Sometimes It Is Best Not To Know

by Jack D Elgar

Jack (known as Jill sometimes) was sitting in his upstairs bedroom at the desk in the corner doing his homework Sunday afternoon. His mother would check it when he was done and then he would be allowed to watch TV or play video games. The 12 year old boy's shoulder length hair had been washed and set in pin curls by his mother who was putting 'the hair stuff' away in the kitchen. Earlier her husband had washed and set her hair in magnetic rollers and she had washed her husband's hair right after lunch. The phone rang and she answered it. Jack quietly opened his bedroom door and listened so he could hear his mother's half of the conversation as she talked with her mother.

He was not happy at what he heard.

"Hi Mom, how are you and Dad today? Good; same here."

"Good. No; I have plenty of time to talk. Supper is in the slow cooker; beef stew, all the work is done. Jack will set the table later and all I have to do is slice the bread. Pie for dessert, apple."

I just finished putting the hair stuff away; yes we all got our heads washed after lunch. Bob did mine and I did his. No, no I didn't set him today, he set mine, I just combed his, sprayed it a little and put it in a hairnet to keep it from going flyaway. Yes you know how hair can be just after you wash it.

But I did do Jack's hair in pin curls today; a lot of them. Yes; I want him to get used to the tight curly look. He's getting his perm Saturday. No, at the salon. I decided not to do it myself.

I was talking to Bob's sister Alice about it and she reminded me what a pain rolling a perm is. Yes, I know but those were just scatter perms and body waves. I bet there were no more than a couple of dozen perm rods. He is getting a tight perm for hard to hold hair; Alice showed me some pictures she had and it looks like that he will need about 80-100 perm rods in his hair to get the look I want. Yes we looked at a bunch of pictures and counted the rods; that is what it will take. Besides; I can always loosen the look a bit when I set it by using different sized rollers.

No, I haven't told him about the enema yet. It will take quite a while to do his perm; all the winding and with the hard to wave formula it takes quite a long time to process. Well I guess he will be put under the dryer to speed it up a little or in a heating cap. But we can't have him wandering around the salon going to the bathroom; right?

I spoke to Carol when I made his appointment and she suggested how to handle it. She has had a lot of experience doing boys she said. Yes, she said the best thing is to give him an enema the night before his appointment and another in the morning.

She suggested putting him in a diaper or using sanitary napkins and a briefer or a panty girdle; that way it will handle any leakage from his enemas; if he is not used to them. And he is not; but maybe he should be. I know you are a strong believer in frequent purges and he has been a bit irregular lately; maybe I should start him on a scheduled regimen. Well we can talk about it when you visit later this month. Yes, maybe Santa will put a big red bag with a black nozzle in his stocking this year.

Anyway Alice gave me a panty girdle that should fit him; mine are too big for him and she is petite. so it should work out fine. I did buy some disposable diapers to have on hand and Carol said that 'light pads' should do just fine, we won't need 'maxi-pads' for what we will be doing. She also suggested that perhaps I put him in the diapers or panty girdle a few days before to see which works best and get him used to the idea. I think I will diaper him tonight for practice. No he doesn't know for sure but I think he suspect something is up since I put the panty girdle in his underwear drawer when Alice brought it over. And there is a package of diapers and baby cream and baby power in the bathroom cabinet now as well. I know his is dying to ask but is afraid to bring the subject if his worst fears are true.

No he is in a tee shirt and jeans now; it is the middle of the afternoon. But he will be in his nightgown right after supper. No, most nights he sleeps in his PJs but when his hair is done up I have him wear a night gown or his Baby Dolls or a sleep teddy. Yes it makes him feel girly-girly and he is better behaved then. Of course he will sleep in a night gown the night before his perm to help get him in the proper mood even if his hair is not set. No I am not gong to set his hair the night before he gets his perm; that would be silly. But he will have had his first enema so he will be diapered then on Friday night.

I will make sure you get copies. Carol said we could take all the pictures we want as long as the other customers don't mind. Yes, Bob will use the digital recorder and I will use the digital camera. At worst we just might have to be careful of the angles to not include any one that doesn't want go be in the shot. She said most of the time nobody complains; as a matter of fact when a boy is getting his hair colored or permed or set most people get a big kick out of it.

Remember when I was there last Halloween and I told you we were talking about costumes and the woman took a small album from her purse and showed us her son getting dressed in his costume as a old time western dance hall girl and she had pictures of him being laced into a corset with fishnet stocking and his hair in rollers having his makeup done? She passed the album around and we all had a good look. I was surprised at how many of the mothers and grandmother's said that they had similar pictures of their sons or grand sons in similar circumstances; but none of them had any pictures of them with them except one mother had a picture of her and her son in matching sundresses taken that summer.

Well I have to go check on his homework now. Give my love to Dad. Bye Bye.
