Summertime Pinks

by Little Katie

Part 4

Here is the last chapter of the series. I had fun exploring things and I wrap everything up a bit for everyone. Like usual the characters lives go on beyond the story.

Christine woke up, still in his mother's arms. He remembered all that was said the night before and wondered what his life would of been like if his parents didn't impose any gender on him. He wondered how he existed as both male and female at the same time. He concluded that he would probably be just as confused no matter what his parents chose. But today was a new day and he was ready for a new life. He decided that he wouldn't complete reject everything male, but instead would incorporate the things that he had learned into this new existence.

"Sleep good pumpkin," mom asked as she rubbed her child's bare shoulder.

"Yeah, it was okay."

"It looks like you are thinking about something pretty serious."

"I was just wondering about being a girl again all the time."

"What about it?"

"Well all my friends are going to think I am some kind of freak, they might not understand like you and Amanda and Julie."

"Sometimes people react strongly to things that they don't understand. But that doesn't mean that you are doing anything wrong, just that you are very unique."

"I guess. It just seems weird, even for me and I am living it."

"Give it some time, you will do perfectly."

"What about dad?"

"He called late last night and we talked a little while."

"Is he mad?"

"No, he isn't mad. I think he is just a little disappointed."

"Because I want to be a girl."

"No, I think most boys want to have at least one son, this way they can pass off all their knowledge and have someone to pal around with."

"Well I still want to pal around with dad. I mean, I know I didn't enjoy fishing and stuff, but I always liked spending time with him and hearing his stories."

"He knows, it's just that he envisioned you as something different. He will accept you for who you are, it will just take him time."

"But what about yesterday. He called me a fagot and a freak and was going to hit me."

"He was wrong for what he said. You know your dad when he gets a few beers in him. He doesn't do it often, but boy when he does he can be a real ass."

Christine laughed because he wasn't use to hearing his mom use that kind of language.

"He is real sorry for that too. He told me that and when he comes home from work today he will apologize to you correctly."

"I know dad wanted a son and stuff, but I can't keep being that way. It made me sad inside."

"I know pumpkin, you just be the best you can be and all will workout just fine."

"I don't understand something."

"What's that."

"Well if dad didn't want me to be a girl and knew that I was a girl. Why did he make me wear a bathing suit and stay in Amanda's room and stuff."

"Your dad has never been the sharpest tool in the box now has he? He probably sent you to Amanda's room because you use to avoid it like a plague and your room has the t.v. and all your games in it. It's not to much of a punishment being in there."

"Well I use to stay out of Amanda's room because it always made me feel weird. I always wanted to play with her stuff and I thought that something was wrong with that. Now I wish my room was just like it."

"Maybe one of these weekends you and your dad can transform your room the way you would like it."

"You think he would?"

"Sure, you have always been a daddy's girl. He even joked about that last night."

"That must of been some phone call."

Mom laughed. "We covered a lot of bases. Like I said he will come around, give him time."

"Are we going shopping still?"

"Yes we are, dad even agreed that if you are going to remain a girl you needed to have your own things."

"Cool."

"Now get ready and we will eat breakfast out."

Christine walked into his sisters room. She was sitting on the floor stark naked playing with a doll.

"What are you doing?" Christine asked.

"I was waiting for people to get up."

"Where are your clothes?"

"I didn't sleep in any, it got too hot."

"I should of knocked I guess."

"It's okay, its not like you haven't seen before. Besides I know you ain't interested."

"A week ago you would of screamed and gotten me in trouble."

"That was when you were Billy the boy. Now you are Billy the girl."

"Actually it's Chrissy."

"Chrissy?"

"It's short for Christine."

"Is that your new name?"

"Actually it was my name before I became a boy and now I took it back."

Amanda looked at him in confusion, not understanding what he was talking about.

"Did I hear you right," Julie said as she burst into the room. "Did I get my Chrissy sis back."

Christine nodded.

"Oh my God." Julie ran to Christine and gave him a big hug and smothered him in kisses. "I missed you so much, I cried for days when they took you away from me."

"Well I am back." Christine smiled.

"Awesome, we are going to have to catch up on so much."

"We can do that while mom takes us shopping. I don't have any of my own clothes and I can't keep borrowing Amanda's"

"You are going to let me help you chose right. I have to make sure you get cool clothes and don't look like a dork."

"Yeah, you bet."

"Awesome."

Christine found a blue cotton dress that had a big red plastic star on the chest and slipped it on. He found a pair of ruffled socks and the canvas shoes that he wore yesterday and put them on as well. Amanda got dressed in a similar outfit, except hers was red. Julie wore a pair of blue shorts and a white T-shirt that she tied off at the bottom. Soon the three sisters were sitting in the living room, talking up a storm, waiting for their mother.

Mom took the group to IHOP and Christine was surprised how no one said anything about him. He figured most people would know that he was a boy and would make some unkind comments to him. That didn't happen and breakfast went without a hitch.

After breakfast mom stopped by Glenn's house. Christine walked up to the door and rang the bell. A tall blonde haired lady answered the door.

"I think I remember you," the lady said and smiled at the child.

"Hi Mrs. Henderson."

"So little Chrissy is finally back amongst the living."

Christine nodded.

"Glenn is thrilled, make sure you keep him in line."

"I will."

"Glenn," Mrs. Henderson called into the house. "Your little girl friend is here."

Christine blushed a bright red and Mrs. Henderson gave his cheeks a light pinch.

"We've missed you girl, I'm glad you are back. You look much happier already."

"Hi," Glenn said as he stood next to his mother.

"Want to go to the mall and help me pick out some clothes."

"Can I pick out one thing for you, I'll pay with my allowance."

"Sure," Christine wondered what he would try to buy her.

"Cool. Can I go mom, can I?"

"Yes, but be on your very best behavior and be a gentleman."

"I will, I promise."

Glenn took Christine by the hand and walked her to the minivan. He opened up the rear door for his girlfriend and helped her get in. The two children went into the back seat as Amanda and Julie giggled incessantly.

Christine ignored them and let Glenn put his arm around her shoulder. It felt weird to have such contact with a boy, even after what they did the other day, but Christine liked the feeling.

The hour drive to the mall was filled with idle chatter and joking. Glenn being the only complete boy in the vehicle was the target for many jokes. Julie even asked him when the wedding was going to be. Without missing a beat he said as soon as Christine said yes.

The first thing they did at the mall was to head straight to the beauty parlor. Glenn rolled his eyes slightly at the prospect of spending an hour at a salon, but kept his complaint to himself. Since it was so early they were able to see Christine right away. Mom agreed to allow the kids to hang out at the arcade as Christine got her hair done properly.

"What have we got here," the older lady said as Christine sat in the chair.

"She needs her hair styled properly."

"Who did this to your hair sugar?" the lady asked.

"My dad. He wanted to save some money I think."

"No wonder. Leave it to a man to ruin such lovely hair. For goodness sakes, what he did to your hair. People might of mistook you for a little boy if you weren't in such a lovely dress."

"We know," Mom chimed in. "Can you do anything for her."

"Certainly. The hair is short, but it is summer." The lady pulled out a comb and pushed the bangs in front of Christine's eyes. "The first thing we do is give you proper bangs, most girls don't wear there hair parted to the side." The lady measured the bangs out with the comb and cut them just above Christine's eyebrows.

"Look at that sugar, an instant improvement."

Christine looked in the mirror, the bangs framed his face nicely and made him look more feminine. The lady sprayed some hairspray lightly on the bangs to keep them from trying to escape back to the top of his head.

"You are going to need to train your hair to stay properly. If you use hairspray everyday and keep the bangs, in about two weeks your hair will stay properly."

The lady then brushed back the rest of the hair and then parted it down the center. "It is still to short to do much. What I will do is cut off the dead ends and hopefully in a month or so we will have more to deal with."

"Okay," Mom answered. She knew there wasn't much to do with such short hair. Her husband always insisted on a classic boy's haircut and now that decision was coming back to haunt them.

"All done." The lady said after she trimmed the very last hair.

"I like it," Christine said. Even though it wasn't nice long hair like his sisters it was at least a step in the right direction.

"Yes," Mom added, "you did a very nice job."

Mom paid the lady and then took Christine to the arcade to locate the rest of their party.

"Wow," Glenn said as he saw Christine walk towards him.

"What?" Christine asked.

"You look very pretty like that," Glenn said and then Christine's sisters agreed.

Christine blushed at the compliment.

"Look like someone is trying to earn brownie points," Mom said and the group laughed.

Glenn took Christine by the hand and the group walked to the lower level to a boutique where most of the children shopped.

They picked out several outfits that were to be used for everyday wear. There were several skirts, a couple of cotton dresses and a few pairs of jeans. Christine was happy with each of the items she selected. She tried on each outfit and modeled them for the group. Mom also threw in three packages of underwear and socks.

"Mom," Christine whined.

"What?"

"Why are you buying panties?"

"You can't keep borrowing Amanda's, one day you might run out."

"But Glenn is here."

"Don't worry it isn't like you are trying them on for him." Mom laughed.

"Can I get this for her," Glenn asked Christine's mom as he held up a white sun dress.

"If she would like it, I don't see why not."

Christine looked at the dress, it looked very nice and he didn't mind at all. He walked into the dressing room and tried it on. The thin fabric came down to his upper thigh, and the lack of anything covering the arms gave the dress a very breezy feel to it. Christine walked out to the main floor and modeled the little dress to the group.

"What do you think?" Mom asked.

"I like it, I really do."

"Would you like to wear that for the rest of the day or change back to what you had on."

"I'll wear this, because Glenn picked it out."

"Okay." Mom smiled.

"Thanks Glenn," Christine said and then kissed his boyfriend on the cheek.

Glenn started to turn a bright read and said "you're welcome."

Christina felt proud that he caused a boy to blush, now he knew he could put the shoe on the other foot.

"I think we got enough clothes for one day, don't you?"

"Yeah we got a ton of stuff."

Mom had the cashier ring up all the clothes and paid with a credit card. There were several bags, and each of the children had to carry a bag with them. On the way out they passed a jewelry store.

"Mom?"

"Yes Chrissy?"

"Can I get my ears pierced like Julie and Amanda?" Christine asked as she looked at the sign in the window.

"Are you sure you want that?"

"Yes I am."

"I don't see why not," mom walked the group into the little jewelry store.

In a few seconds, Christine found himself sitting in yet another chair. A woman asked if he was comfortable and then took a large white tube out from under the chair.

"Are you ready?" The lady asked as she slid the earlobe into the opening on the tube.

"Yeah, I guess."

"Don't worry doll this won't hurt a bit."

"Okay," Christine said.

A split second later a loud pop sounded in Christine's ear as the machine placed a small silver stud in her ear. The woman quickly did the other ear while the child was still in shock from the sound.

"Now leave the stud in for a couple of days and wash it out every night with peroxide to keep in from getting infected. Don't go to long without having an earring in or the whole might close."

"Yes ma'am."

"Now go up front and pick out some earrings."

Christine did what he was told and looked in the case at the inexpensive earrings. He picked out a pair of teddy bears and a pair of hearts. After he was done the group went back to the minivan and got set to go home.

While in the car, Christine noticed that Glenn was staring at his legs. She wasn't use to this aspect of being a girl and didn't know how to handle it. She felt a little flattered and a little embarrassed at the situation. She decided to let it slide and just let him look.

When they got home Glenn helped unload the car and stayed for a light lunch. Afterward he had to go home to do some chores.

"Did you enjoy having a day with your boyfriend?" Mom asked.

"Yeah, he is really cool."

"We always knew you two would make a great couple, he really likes you."

"He kept looking at me."

"That's because you are cute," Mom said.

"No I mean at my legs and when I sat on the couch he looked up my dress I saw him looking."

Mom laughed. "Better get used to it, even the best guys can't control there eyes."

"You mean they are going to do this all the time."

"No."

"Phew." Christina sighed.

"It's going to get worst."

"Oh," Christine looked surprised.

"It's just what boys do. Even your dad can't help but to look at girls as they walk by."

"That's disgusting." Christine said.

"Why is that?"

"Cause he is dad, that's why."

Mom laughed. "He can't help it, it's that darn Y chromosome."

Christine decided to drop the topic. She went upstairs with her mom and helped put away the clothes. The rest of the day was spent in the yard, working on her tan with Julie.

"Chrissy," mom called out as she entered the back yard.

"Yes mommy."

"Your dad wants to see you."

"Okay," Christine looked down at his feet, wondering if the same episode from yesterday would continue. He shuffled into the living room, dad was sitting in his reclined.

"Hi," Dad said softly.

"Hi."

"I guess there is no way to put this that will be easy for you to understand."

"I don't want to be a boy anymore," Christine quickly blurted out, trying to beat his dad to the punch.

"I know, I can see that. But, that isn't what I wanted to say."

"It isn't?"

"No Billy it isn't. I want to say you really look cute in that outfit."

"It's Christine now."

"I see. I remember when we use to call you that all the time. Well Chrissy, I can call you that still, right?"

"Yeah, that is fine."

"You look really cute in the outfit Chrissy."

"Thank you."

"I'm real sorry about the things that I said the other day, I was wrong."

"It really hurt."

"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me. I guess you can't really understand how much I wanted a son."

"I can."

"But, I am fine with what you are. I still love you."

"Why did you say all those nasty things though?"

"Partly because I am stupid. Partly because part of me felt betrayed."

"But I didn't betray you."

"No not you, perhaps by God or by fate. I had a son for a short time and the family name would live on through you. It was my shot at some kind of immortality, but the family name is going to end with me."

"I'm sorry."

"It has nothing to do with you. Just a silly notion I had that it was important to have a son."

"I don't understand something though."

"Just one thing?" Dad chuckled.

"Yeah. If you knew I use to be a girl and you made me a girl and stuff. Why did you dress me in a bikini and send me to Amanda's room? I mean if you didn't do those things I would of kept it to myself."

"You probably would of, I am sure. I guess you think your old man is a few cards short of a full deck."

"It's just weird, especially since I said I wished I was a girl and stuff. I mean, I figure you would want me to stay clear of anything that was for a girl."

"Let me tell you a story and maybe it will explain why things happened."

"Okay."

Dad lifted Christine onto his lap, pulling his child close to him.

"It was Wednesday, I had gotten off early from work. I drove my car to the park because I was going to take you someplace, just the two of us. You were playing baseball with your friends and I sat in the car and watched. You looked so uncomfortable and so out of place on the field that I knew you simply hated it. After all that time we spent playing catch and all that practice hitting I knew it wasn't because you weren't good. You honestly didn't enjoy the game, which was fine. Then I saw you walking in your jeans and you made this face like you hated them when you kept fidgeting with them. It made me think about what you would be doing if I hadn't made the decision for you to be a boy. You would be wearing what you are right now, probably. Well that really got me to thinking about things, and with you constantly saying things like you wish you were a girl, I tried to think of something to do. My first instinct was to reinforce you being a boy, I was thinking of buying you a dirt bike, or maybe signing you up for football. But, that would just of made things worst I think. So I figured that the next time you said that you wanted to be a girl I would test that. I sent you to your sisters room and secretly watched you playing with the doll. It seemed so natural that I knew I was about to lose my son. Well when you came down I had already planned that I was going to send you out in that bathing suit. When I saw your friends come by, I figured you would be so humiliated that you would quickly give up the notion of being a girl. But you stuck through it and I am happy that you did."

"But all those things you said afterward and stuff."

"It was my way of mourning the loss of my son, it isn't an easy thing."

"I'm sorry daddy. I wish I was the son you always wanted but I am not."

"Sweetie, you were never meant to be that person. It's not your fault."

"But I don't want you to be sad."

"I'm not, I lost a son, but I still have one heck of a daughter."

"Thanks daddy." Christine leaned in and kissed his father on the cheek.

"I got you something too, for you to know how much I love you." Dad reached into his pocket, and pulled out a long gold chain. He gently put it around his daughter's neck.

"Special daughter," Christine read off the charm that was on the chain.

"That you are."

A tear flowed from Christine's eye as he wrapped his arms around his father's neck.

"We will set it up with the doctors to fix you back to normal too. I already spoke to mom about it. You have to live the way you were meant to."

The End

I hope that everyone enjoyed this little series. I wanted to do something more with things but right now I am going through too much. I wish everyone happiness.
